iainmac1
Iceland also beating France in our group. They are doing something right there. For a population not much more than 300k it's unbelievable their improvement.
darkbluegas
It does make you wonder what we could learn from smaller countries that are currently having some sucess like Iceland and Slovakia. Also in the past Denmark.

Someone take a photo of the current table You would have had to be quick. Iceland went on to beat France 3-2 to top the group with 2 wins out of 2. girvanTA
Iceland totally reinvented themselves. Started with grass roots, playing rolling subs, constant player development and really not caring about results till under 18 level. Indoor football, summer leagues, players diets from 8 years old. They also played players that they brought through (mostly) without the need of buying foreign imports. Yes the national league standard maybe is poor but that will improve, any player that really catches the eye is off to Norway, Sweden and Denmark
weekevie04
They have scouts from Italian clubs over every summer, and often a few lads will be signed up at 10/11 - move to Italy etc. Their league isn't that bad either. It's not great, but they always tend to have one team that does well in Europe. Last year, Stjarnan got to the 3rd round of the UEFA Cup before meeting Inter. The Faroes seem to be working miracles too. 40K population and they are a decent side. Beaten Greece twice this year, and last night they were better than NI until they had a man sent off. girvanTA
We should be taking note, instead of trying to keep up with england
