Fairbairn
I ended up all the way from Partick down Dumbarton Road. Second pub we were in and some cock was slavering in front of my wife about "Proddies and Cafflicks." The odd look on her pus said it all. Welcome to Scotland dear. Embarrassing. Where did you end up? That's my stamping ground at that end of town. Now you come to mention it I do remember talking to some American wummin....... Any recommendations for Chicago next week? We've got a couple of nights to ourselves so will no doubt head out for a beer or 3! There's me and another boy my age (ish!) and 3 girsl aged between about 22-28 or so. Most of the places I was in last year were very Irish/touristy so hoping for something a bit different!
Boynze
never been to munro's but does look a good pub. some of the pubs along dumbarton road are decent, if a bit earthy, and some are dives - e.g. partick tavern. lismore is good if rather pungent at times. I was in Munro's a couple of weeks ago for the first time and was quite impressed. The Partick Tavern has been taken over by Colin Beattie (who owns Oran Mor among others) and is slowly trying to change it's image. They have a lot of live music now and I think they do food and a decent ale selection as well. The Lismore for me is one of the most over rated pubs in Glasgow. Other than a good whisky selection, it's always packed, the beer from the taps is questionable at best and the gents toilets are absolutely stinking and have been for as long as I can remember. Someone also mentioned The Aragon earlier in the thread. Another example of a good pub that's lost it's way a bit. I started drinking in there probably the best part of 20 years ago and I don't think it's had as much as a lick of paint in that time. It's in desperate need of a bit of a spruce up. Fairbairn
Which hotel are you in and I'll ask right locals what's best? We're in The Swissotel, down next to Millenium Park.
scotlad
Missed this thread but aye Munros is a great wee pub even though their quiz seems to be getting harder each week! Maybe you've just been drinking more. aragon is prob my favourite pub in those parts, they do a lovely pint of caledonian 80. take your point about the lismore, but i still think its a 'nice pub' Agreed. It's been a while since I was last in but it was always a nice, cozy wee howff. Do they still have that plaque in the urinal 'dedicated' to the men behind the highland clearances? The only reason the bogs stink is because there's a queue like an execution to pish on the Judas bastards of Scotland.

Ormond
We're in The Swissotel, down next to Millenium Park.I know exactly where you are. Unlucky as there's not a boozer in walking distance. You are smack bang in the business district. I was working there last winter and there is nothing around. To be honest, the "loop" in Chicago is not geared for pubs. Chicago city centre is not a great drinking place. The edges and the suburbs are. I stay in a suburb called Lemont. An old town by Yank standards and has lots of oldish pubs. Are you looking for working class pubs? I hate the wanky kind but not sure what you or your colleagues are after?
