    Euro 2024 Draw

One of those that could've been better and could've been worse. Any of the Pot 1 teams would've been tough so I'd have taken Germany beforehand. I'm just relieved we didn't get England. Hungary are a really good side and have had some great results recently but again, I'm ok with that. From Pot 4, I'd have much preferred getting a play-off team but at least we didn't get Italy. I'm also glad we've got the Germans in the opening game because wouldn't like to be playing them in the 3rd game needing a draw or a win to qualify.
  2. Pot 1: Germany, Portugal, France, Belgium, Spain, England Pot 2: Hungary, Turkey, Denmark, Albania, Romania, Austria Pot 3: Netherlands, Scotland, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Czechia Pot 4: Italy, Serbia, Switzerland, Playoff A, Playoff B, Playoff C The winners of the three playoff paths, which are to be played in March, will all be in Pot 4 too. UEFA will hold a draw on Thursday 6 a.m. ET / 11 a.m. UK to determine which one of three Playoff B teams -- Finland, Iceland or Ukraine -- will have to take part in Playoff A, which will in turn create the fixtures based upon ranking. Path A: Poland, Wales, Estonia Path B: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel Path A or B: Finland, Iceland, Ukraine Path C Georgia vs. Luxembourg, Greece vs. Kazakhstan I known they've not been great recently but can we please avoid Italy as out Pot 4 side.
  3. We should just play Israel 4 times and be done with it!
  4. I totally agree. Obviously a lot comes down to the draw (pot 2 and pot 4 teams would have to be favourable) but we should be aiming at the knockout stages with 16 of the 24 teams progressing.
  5. I know he might've burnt his bridges but if Fraser can get to 90% of his previous form then he needs to be in the squad. We desperately need a fast midfielder who can unlock defences. Ideally Doak will start to get more time with Liverpool and force his way in but he's not really done that much in the games he's played so far so that looks more and more unlikely.
  6. If we have Tierney, Robertson and Hickey fit then it's definitely the best formation. What the last couple of games have shown is that we're a decent side when we're at full strength but very vulnerable when we have some key players out. We just don't have the squad depth that other nations do. I know it was an almost meaningless game last night but the standard of defending against a very average side (with the exception of Bobb who looks quality) was worrying. I felt a bit sorry for Brown last night as he got almost zero service so hopefully won't be judged on that game alone.
  7. Yes, surely Ferguson will get a start and I'd play Shankland as well. There's been quite a few players who've turned up for squad after squad and not got a run so this is a good chance to give them a chance to show if they can do anything in a competitive match. Norway are quite an average side and with their 2 best players (by a mile) missing, we really should have nothing to fear from them so let's get on the front foot from kick off.
  8. It is almost a meaningless game but I have a strong feeling that Norway won't be bothered either way so I'm going Scotland by 2. If we can get an early goal and start bossing the midfield then I can see them offering nothing. Hopefully this post won't come back to bite me later!
  9. I know but I'm sure you'd agree that over the course of games, we'd have a better chance at Hampden than playing away and that's something that comes down to a coin toss for the final. Anyway, it looks like they'll get a play off now so at least they have another chance at it. They'll certainly need to up their game though as Armenia looked miles ahead of them yesterday.
  10. They're a strange side at the moment. They played brilliantly against Croatia in the last qualifier but were rubbish today and were lucky to get a draw in the end. Im just so glad we don't need the play-off as so much depends on getting the home tie.
  11. With 4 of their top players out and nothing to play for, the 5/4 price for a Scotland win looks like a steal. And even with Haaland and co, theyre not that great anyway so I'm surprised Scotland aren't odds on.

    Future Striker

I mentioned McCoist and Johnston as for me, they were a class above what we've had since and that's in terms of their ability and not necessary what they did in a Scotland shirt. I'm also old enough to remember strikers like Charlie Nicholas, McAvennie and Archibald and although they were naturally brilliant, none of them were really great for Scotland. I'd take any of them in their prime over what we have now and I think that's the main issue.
  13. I agree that he wasn't that prolific for Scotland but he was still miles ahead of any strikers we've had recently.
  14. As has been said numerous times before, we've got a really good squad but are missing a really quality striker. Rory Wilson looks like he could be a decent prospect for the future. He's currently at Aston Villa and scored recently for the U21s against Hungary. He's only 17 so Germany is too soon for him but if he lives up to the hype, he could be what we need in the years to come. Hopefully he can be the next McCoist or Johnston and not the next Eion Jess or Jack Harper.
  15. A top striker is the one thing we're missing to get us to the next level as we need someone who can take a chance when it comes. Im struggling to think when we last had really quality up front and probably going back to Johnston and McCoist which was over 30 years ago. Unfortunately it doesn't look like we have anyone like that coming through but I'd agree if Stewart can get back to his form pre-injury, he could be a shout for a squad place.
  16. As Austria won last night, it looks like we might need 2 wins against Georgia and Norway to secure a Pot 2 place. Definitely achievable and also no real pressure as would really just be the icing on the cake (would also be good for World Cup qualifying seeding as well).
  17. If they qualify now they'll be in Pot 3 or 4 as Turkey have won the group and the best they can do is a 2nd place finish. They won't be near the best 2nd place so won't get Pot 2. One to avoid as although they might not be the team they were, they're still a quality aide and do well in tournaments.
  18. Just shows we've still got something to play for and were obviously looking to get as many wins as possible to try and get a 2nd seeding pot for the World Cup qualifiers. Having said that, I'd like to see Ferguson getting a game. He's been fantastic in Serie A and has turned up for all the qualifiers so he deserves a chance.
  19. Nice to be able discuss possible opponents at the Euros instead of looking for snookers/play-offs to qualify.
  20. They'll get into the play-offs as long as Serbia qualify directly. Serbia are currently 2nd.
  21. Now that we've qualified, at least we can sit back and not having to worry about the stress of another play-off. However, for the 3 teams that make it through, all will be Pot 4 seeds so that could be mean the a team like the Netherlands, Croatia or Italy being drawn out to join our group. Who would currently participate in the play-offs, based on the European Qualifiers standings after Matchday 7 (14 October)? Path C: Georgia, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, Azerbaijan Path B: Israel, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, Ukraine Path A: Netherlands, Czechia, Wales, Estonia
  22. That Georgia vs Norway draw will be a really sore one for the Norwegians as they've been playing catch up since then. I don't think Georgia are as dangerous as they were when we lost to them but having watched the highlights, I don't really want to be going there needing a win to guarantee qualification. Hopefully Spain can do the business tonight and with Norway's poor defence, Morata should get loads of chances (as long as he manages to stay onside).
  23. Exactly this for me as well. The positive thing is any result isn't a complete disaster though. If Spain win then we'll qualify but it's almost certain that we'll be 2nd and either 2nd or 3rd seeds for the group stage in Germany. If it's a draw then we still qualify but have a better chance of winning the group. If Noway win then we just need to draw against them in the final game but if we win both our remaining matches then we win the group and would be pot 1 seeds for Germany next summer.
  24. They have some excellent players, especially Bellingham who looks like he's going be a future ballon d'or winner. For me, France and England have the strongest squads in Europe so it'll be tough but they're also beatable and the fact it's a friendly might take the edge off and it might not be played with the same intensity which should suit Scotland.
  25. We just need to have the same mentality as we did last night in the 3 upcoming qualification games and we'll be fine. Anything we get in Spain will be a huge result but the key thing is we must go into the Georgia game on the front foot and controlling the midfield like we've done recently. We just need to look at our own performances and results and if we do that then we'll be fine.
