Scotland Tonight
Stapes replied to Andy North Croy's topic in Anything Goes - Other topics not covered elsewhere
She forgot her guest's name last night. You can hear her apologising almost immediately. Don't think she's too bad, certainly in comparison to Kirsty Wark or Jackie Bird. -

^ Well said. Sorry, that was for Wine Bibber. -
Public Lending Right - https://www.plr.uk.com/ Basically you get about 6.5p per book loaned at a library. There's some luck involved. Only a small number of libraries take part on a rolling basis, and the results are extrapolated out. I wrote a local history book about Midlothian a few years back and the PLR must have been in Midlothian last year and I made a mint.

Just had an ad for it on my Facebook page! So it seems to work. Anyway, I meant to post a while back, have you signed up to the scheme that pays you when your book is borrowed from a library? The name escapes me, but if you hit lucky you can earn some decent money. I'll get the info tonight and post it.

I think we both know it's a freebie.

Who said I wasn't supporting Murray? In fact, if I'm being honest I want them to beat the US, I just can't be doing with the UJ p!sh going on. I just back on a few seconds ago to see Johann Lamont has blagged her way in (sitting behind Isner).

It's an embarrassing BritNat w@nkfest. Mainly full of the following - people coming up from England who are proud to be British. Fair enough, don't have an issue with that at all. And Scots who consider themselves Brits and see this is as a chance to also assert they're real Scots too. Deluded t0ssers. I'm out.

Labour Party Plumbing New Depths.
Stapes replied to giblet's topic in Anything Goes - Other topics not covered elsewhere
Worth checking out the Twitter exchange between BBC's James Cook and Cllr Stephen McCabe after Cook quoted a senior Labour figure as saying 'the ship is sinking'. -

I know Davie, and tbh I quite like him. Think he's lost his way in the party machine, but somewhere in there is a true socialist (he still lives in the same council house he did before becoming an MP for example). I've never felt he was truly anti-SNP, certainly not on the scale of Ian Davidson or Terry Kelly. I believe he's friends with some senior SNP people down in WM. He's also a very engaging speaker so was a bit surprised at this. -

If you fancy some fun on Twitter during QT check out the #SNPout hash tag. The bitterness and vitriol is on another level. Wound a few of them up today. They're no the brightest, but they're like a pack of wolves lol. -

In the recent Midlothian by-election the 100 Tory votes went 75/25 Labour/SNP. -
Teacher Struck Off...
Stapes replied to Cove_Sheep's topic in Anything Goes - Other topics not covered elsewhere
We had a history teacher at Dalkeith High called Mr James, who was also the provost of Dunbar. He had a poster of Jesse James on his wall, and needless to say that was his nickname. He wore the old black robes with huge, long pockets. In the pockets he kept tennis balls and would smash them off the head of any pupil passing by. Having said that the pupils thought he was great and it never appeared to me to be malicious. Every pupil who attended Dalkeith before 1982 will remember him. -
"A top-four finish for England in the European Under-21 Championship would see the men's side get there, while the women would have to finish as one of the top three European teams in the World Cup this summer." Can someone explain this? Why England? Why not Northern Ireland for example? Surely the English and British teams are completely separate entities, and the results of an English team should have no bearing on whether Team GB qualifies for a tournament.

Yes, have always thought he was one if the more sensible Labourites. Tbh, I think politicians have every right to do that if they're being unfairly harassed. Some constituents, and media folks, are t0ssers, and shouldn't just expect to be able to say what they want. I'm guessing if we see the whole video it would become clear why he did it. -

White and gold when I came on, scrolled backup after reading a few posts and it was blue and black. -
A Choice For The Left

This. But, yes, solidarity with Liverpool dockers rather than Edinburgh lawyers was always the reason I was given. A strange one when you dig down into it, but hey ho. -

Older guy at my work is a dyed in the wool socialist, one who goes out there and does the door knocking, stalls and so on. Lifetime member of the Labour Party. And, fwiw, a staunch No voter, although not aggressively anti-Yes (just believed No was the way to go). Walked into my work this morning and told me he'd left the party and joined the SSP. The views of the remaining members of his branch were so far removed from trafitional Labour values that he felt he had no alternative. Are we really witnessing the strange death of Labour in Scotland? It would seem so. -
A few years back out son was having major moods and tantrums so we banned him off his PS for a week. The result was like a different child - happy, friendly and no moods. Now our second son is 12 and the same thing is happening, only worse. He gets about 2-3 hours after school and longer at the weekends, but his arguments with us are now out of control. So I've taken him off his Xbox from now until Friday (nightmare as it's a school holiday). Only letting him have his phone for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. Anyone else done this, and what was the outcome?
