Repeal of the bigot act
aaid replied to scoobydoo's topic in Anything Goes - Other topics not covered elsewhere
What happens if the fans who buy the team are all bigots? I appreciate its a one liner in a manifesto but it really looks as if they have no real idea about football. -
Nope, we've played England in the Roseberry kit before.

This is a three act play and its only the end of act one. Act two will be the UK media going absolutely mental about it. Act three will be FIFA caving in under the pressure.

This Weekends Games
aaid replied to GRBear's topic in Football related - Discussion of non TA football
Perhaps not, but hating someone solely because of their political opinions is certainly bigoted. Also, judging someone and stereotyping someone because of which football team they support or how they voted is certainly bigoted behaviour. These are both traits which you've consistently exhibited. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck ... -

Now, now. Put "some" in front of that and I'd agree with you. -

bigot noun [ C ] UK /ˈbɪɡ.ət/ US /ˈbɪɡ.ət/ disapproving a person who has strong, unreasonable beliefs and who does not like other people who have different beliefs or a different way of life: I'd say that's a pretty fair description. -

I suspect he's the only one that's active at a reasonably high level that's commenting though. -
I was talking about the hypothetical, not specifically about the Scotland team right now.

I disagree with that, in fact I'd say that outwith the larger nations with a bigger pool of talent there's more need to play players out of position. For example, at club level, if you had two excellent left backs but all your right backs were useless, you would probably look to sell one of the left backs and use that cash to get a decent right back in. Obviously you can't do that in international football, you'd probably have to look at which of your two left backs could play on the right. There is an argument about playing players in their position but I'd argue that - depending on the player - a good player, playing out of position, will be better than an average player playing in their natural position. They'll have the technique, mentality and intelligence to adapt to another position, the average player may not be able to adapt to playing at a higher level. All depends on the player of course and positions which are to an extent interchangeable, eg., I wouldn't suggest bring Ross McCormack in to play at centre half.

Heathrow expansion
aaid replied to Alibi's topic in Anything Goes - Other topics not covered elsewhere
Fastest trains from Glasgow/Edinburgh to London are about 4 1/2 hours which is probably not much longer than flying if your going from City centre to City Centre. That said, I always think that's a bit meaningless as that misses the point that generally people either have to get to the City Centre first and/or have an onward journey when they arrive. I'd say that if you have reasonable access to one of London's airports then it's quicker to fly, if you don't then train is probably better. Big problem with the trains IMHO, is that unless you get one of the really cheap restricted tickets, it's generally quicker to fly. This decision was between Heathrow and Gatwick, not Heathrow, Gatwick, nothing, Boris Island, Manchester or Prestwick. On balance, Heathrow is probably better for Scotland than Gatwick, more available slots, wider choice of onward flights, better public transport access to London and surrounding areas. When Crossrail is finished in a couple of years you will be able to get to the City of London direct from Heathrow in around 30 minutes. So, I can understand why the SNP are backing it and no doubt they've managed to extract some form of concessions for supporting it. Expanding Heathrow doesn't mean that the SG shouldn't look at increasing the number of flights and destinations from Scotland though. -
I thought they'd ran out of money and work on the stadium had stopped a while back

They've played home games in Vilnius since 2012, the stadium only has a capacity of 5000. Tickets will be scarce.

Heathrow expansion
aaid replied to Alibi's topic in Anything Goes - Other topics not covered elsewhere
I'm all in favour of Heathrow as I live 10 miles from it, it really works for me. Then again I've only ever had to transit a couple of times. The worst transit I've ever had was a couple of years ago when I flew from Chicago to Heathrow via Toronto. I had about an hour and a half connection time which I thought would give me plenty of time to have a pint or two before getting on the flight to Heathrow, especially as when the flight parked on stand, I could see the BA 747 parked up on the next pier. Despite being in transit and having checked my bags in all the way through, I had to clear Canadian Immigration, collect my bags, clear Canadian customs, check my bags back in and then clear security. I got to the gate as the flight was boarding. Never again. -
