  1. It's rarely used these days but I think a 4-1-2-1-2 diamond would suit the players we have. McGregor in the CDM pivot, Mctominay as the B2B RCM, Gilmour as the midfield controller at LCM and McGinn as the high energy attacking mid. This could also keep the striking partnership of Adams and Dykes that Clarke loved. Our biggest strength is central midfield, so why not play to it.
  2. Surprised by this tbh. Outside of King and to a lesser extent Mayo there was a worry that no decent CBs were coming through at youth level at Rangers. He's never really stood out at youth level and he is one I thought would end up in the Scottish lower leagues. Hopefully this gives him a massive kickstart and he starts to develops and improve. We desperately need young CBs coming through.
  3. Delighted they lost but you've got to feel for that Saka. He looked absolutely devastated. Southgate should never have had an inexperienced 19 year old hitting the final penalty.
  4. Back 3. Southgate is quite negative in big games. It's going to be quite a stuffy game. Both teams are happy to sit in and counter.
  5. Rangers haven't started well in preseason but Stephen Kelly has really impressed against Thistle and Tranmere. He and Bassey have probably been the only players who have impressed. We have games coming up against Arsenal, Blackpool, Real Madrid and Brighton. If he can continue to impress in those games, then he could stake a claim to join the first team. Kelly turned 21 a couple of months ago. He has fantastic technique, passing and vision. He was an attacking mid who has dropped deeper, at first he was the typical attacking player playing deep. But his loan at Ross County seems to have massively helped improve the defensive side of his game. John Hughes seems to have massively helped develop his game on the defensive side. Kelly still has a long way to go but I can see a lot of the player Steven Davis has become in him.
  6. Except for Gilmour and Patterson, the last would be Greg Taylor 😂. Came through Rangers before being released at an early age and going to Killie. Before that it would be Kenny McLean, again released early doors. If you are talking proper first team Rangers then it be Hutton. In terms of youth development Rangers had a rotten system and was nowhere near good enough. When Warburton, Allen and then Mulholland came in they completely revitalised and modernised it. Gone was the shite jobs for the boys routine. Stewart wouldn't play small players and would release or cut them. We moved to the opposite were it was all about technique rather than physical abilities. Gilmour, Kelly and Kennedy would never have made it past about 12 when he was still there. Anyway we changed styles and coaching methods and every side plays the same passing and technical style from u20-u5. It is starting to take very positive effect. Gilmour and Patterson in the Scotland team at 19, won the u18 title 3 years running, always atleast 5/6 Rangers youths at most Scotland youth levels. There is quite a large crop of promising players aged 16-19 that could see multiple players make the first team. McPake, Kennedy, Williamson, Maxwell, Lowry, King, Graham and that isn't including Patterson and Gilmour who count as the same generation. There is still a while to go but Rangers have massively turned their academy around these last 6/7 years.
  7. Dickson was definitely released. He signed a new deal in January and got released 6 months later due to apparent attitude problems. Dapo Mebude just hasn't developed and was allowed to run his contract down. It was fairly telling that he was never in European training squads when literally every other youth player of note was involved. I know Dire Mebude turned Rangers down last season and went to Man City. Hogarth seems a strange one. He seemed quite rated by both Rangers and Scotland. Perhaps he rejected a deal, I've not heard anything though.
  8. They don't. I'm sure he wasn't playing much by that point and Dundee just wanted Kamara's wage off the bill. I'm not sure how much Dundee would have gotten in compensation had they waited until the summer but it surely would have been more than the 50k they got in January.
  9. Yeah even if this turns to nothing, I think he's finished as a footballer in the UK. Any club he goes to will get blasted all over social media, sponsors, etc and get massive negative social media. Dafabet already had to cancel a social media q&a due to all questions being about Griffiths. I can't imagine they are too happy.
  10. Whether Griffiths did or did not know her age, would be irrelevant at that point as be he would be in possession of an indecent image of a child, that Griffiths asked for. Again I'm not saying he has gotten any, it seems she had no idea what Griffiths was on about, when he was trying to get pictures.
  11. I think he did in the end but did he not try to play he didn't know at first and that he met her in a pub or something.
  12. Wasn't that the Adam Johnson defence? I have no idea if he got nude photos or not, but if he did get them then it won't matter if he knew her age or not. He'd be going to jail.
  13. I was just adding him to the list of players of also having to go out who play that position. I wouldn't sell Middleton. There's a player there but he just hasn't pieced it together yet. Another 12 months at St. Johnstone would do him the world of good. Davidson seems to improve players and get the best out of them. Middleton said he enjoyed it there and appeared to be getting it together. I don't know why he has been so written off. For me he is a better player than Barker and Jones (they playedyovwr him 19/20 season). They got chances at times while he didn't. Ojo (when he was on loan 19/20) always playing over him was baffling aswell. I hope he makes it at Rangers, there is nothing I love more than a young player coming through your youth team into the first team. I'm also really hoping Stephen Kelly gets a chance this season or next. There is a very good Deep lying playmaker in there. Very reminiscent of the player Steven Davis has become.
  14. My favourite is how they all hate Neymar for it but love Kane for being halfway down before he is even touched. I really dislike Kane. Goes down at the slightest bit of contact and is the master of backing into a player as they jump for a header, to make it look like they are climbing over him. He gets a freekick and the opposition player nearly breaks his neck. Incredibly dangerous play and he gets away with it every time. But he's white, English, doesn't kick his feet out for his dives or scream like he has been shot. So he gets a pass. Sterling is a bit of a diver but he's a small nimble wide player. It's to be expected. Kane is a 6"3/4 physical striker. I do enjoy how they rationale it though that it's happened to them for years, so they are entitled to do it themselves. This EURO's and the last world cup all they did was be very physical out of possession and fall over at the slightest contact in possession.
  15. We (Rangers) keep being talked about but it seems more from Peterborough's end. As they try desperately to get a fee for him, instead of losing him on a free next summer. We have quite a lot of players who can play his position. Hagi, Wright, Aribo, Roofe, Sakala and Itten. There's then Jones, Barker, Hastie and Middleton that still need to be moved on in that position. Unless 1 or 2 of those leave, I don't see Rangers buying him.
  16. Completely. No one was touching him at £40k a week and his demands put off everyone in January. There is no chance he is on anything resembling that. It would make him our top earner by some distance. He was on less than £4k a week at Sheff Utd. It was Fleck who was on £8k before his new deal.
  17. Like others I really hope Clarke learns from his tactical and selection errors. We need to find a way to be more adventurous and not so overly reliant on a long ball to Dykes. Being direct to your striker at times can be fine but it shouldn't be one of the main lines of attack. It was pretty obvious to everyone that Dykes had ran himself into the ground by about 60 minutes into the England game. You could see 10/15 minutes into that Croatia game that Dykes was physically done. But because his aerial presence was needed for Clarke's tactics we kept on a guy who was obviously done. Against Croatia we played basically like a bottom end SPL side against the Old firm sitting deep and punting the ball to our big striker, in the hope we hang on to give it a go with 5 minutes left. Compare that to Finland and Hungary on their last games against big sides. The difference was night and day. If we continue with route one football while getting poor results 2 wins in 10 (1 against the Faroe Islands and then a 1 nil against 10 man Luxembourg), I can see Clarke starting to come under pressure. Clarke has been given a lot of leeway for getting us to the EURO's, but I think that is at an end now. A positive result against Austria and a decent win against Moldova will see us with a decent chance of getting second and a playoff place.
  18. Depending on the wage it's a decent signing. The only thing that put me off his signing was he was after £40k a week in January.
  19. If it was a better looking "gold" it might have been nicer. Looks more like an orangey yellow than gold
  20. Striker doesn't worry me as much as a year ago. Dykes and Adams are decent players and suit Clarke's style. Nesbitt seems like the type of player who will develop each time he takes a step up in level. Nesbitt's next move is key, I hope it isn't to Rangers or Celtic. While unlikely McBurnie could eventually grow up and get his shit together (no laughing in the back). It's goalkeeper that has me severely worried. There looks to be no keeper in the next couple of years who will be ready to take over in goals from Marshall and Gordon. McCrorie was the big hope but he has stalled big time and looks like he needs a settled move to develop and get his confidence back. Doohlan needs a move from Celtic desperately aswell. I suspect when McGregor retires at the end of the season, McLaughlin could become a transitional number 1 at Rangers and basically become defacto Scotland number 1 for a couple of years. When Marshall retires or if he loses form (he'll be 39 come euro 2024). He'd be transitional in the hope Slicker, Muir, Stone, etc develop.
  21. McGregor, Gordon and Marshall (in 2011) are far superior to what we have in the goalkeeping position. RB and not just Hutton was also much better. Whittaker was a very technically gifted footballer who was quite underrated. Patterson has the potential to hit prime Hutton levels and is already much further ahead in his development than Hutton was at the same age. He still has a way to go but the early signs are very promising. I'd say we were also slightly better upfront with Miller and Naismith. Miller had great movement and absolutely insane workrate. Missed some chances but still scored quite a decent amount. Naismith was also a far superior player to Dykes while offering similar aerial presence and workrate.
  22. I think it's more the over hype he has gotten due to who his brother is and that he plays the same position and style. Too many getting ahead of themselves and hoping for 2 young brothers who are technically gifted and would completely change our style of play to a team that dominates the ball. At the same age Billy was playing for the Rangers u20s and training with the Rangers first team. I'm not running Harvey down just Gilmour was a special talent, a level above back then aswell. Hopefully Harvey develops as his own man and doesn't get drowned under the pressure of being hyped as Gilmour's younger brother. Too many players have been lost over expectations of who their relative was. In saying that if given the chance he should follow a similar career path and join Chelsea at 16 like his brother. The level of facilities, coaching and player will just be so far above what he'll get at Kilmarnock (same with Billy at Rangers)
  23. Aye for a ticket to the game. He probably isn't even on the radar anymore, he's went completely off it. The other 2 Southampton goalies alone will be ahead of him. Then you have Pope, Henderson, Johnstone, Ramsdale, etc
  24. Aye it's a bit strange considering he was available on a bosman. He was Portsmouth POTY who just missed out on a playoff spot. It's the very definition of a sideways step. Very strange that no championship side thought about taking a chance on him. I remember Rangers were looking at him just before we resigned McGregor.
  25. Norwich is a very good move for him. They don't play defensively. They play attacking football. Despite going down 2 years ago they won a lot of plaudits for their style and fearlessness. They had around on average 50% possession for the season. Falke is also a very good coach who gets the best out of his players. He somehow turned Hanley into a half decent CB and McLean is a far superior player since Falke came in. He will play passing attacking football under a manager known for improving players. It's a good move.
