  1. It was Lambert when he was at Celtic - Brown "talked the talk" so to speak, but basically bottled it when the 1st "victim" of his tough new stance was going to be Lambert / A Celtic player....after that he never mentioned it again. As an aside, have always wondered why Paul Lambert seems basically immune from criticism form the TA over this sort of thing, especially given the criticism other receive. I obviously don't have exact stats, but at the same time would be very, very confident in saying that out of all players you would consider "1st choice selections" of his era, he was bay far the worst for withdrawing from a squad due to "injury" only to miraculously recover in time to play in Celtic's next game
  2. I asked this very question on here a while back...For me I don't think the day this happens is too far in the future. IMO the most likely will be a player from South America / Australia / Far East who's not quite good enough to be an automatic starter for his country, but is good enough to be a very important player for his champions league regular European team... With all the travelling involved he may just think or his club may persuade him "I can't really be arsed flying 18 hrs ( or whatever) twice in a week to sit on the bench for a friendly.....
  3. Was actually getting bit worried - he asked what round it finished at least twice during Sky interview - Took few heavy shots from RD 6 onwards - Glad he has now retired, all the best to him... Would also like to see Scotty Cardle retire - The way he went down from Ricky Burn's punches was worrying as well -- Commentary team were saying seemed a bit 'punchy' when they spoke to him on the Friday...That's 2 bad KO's from Ritson and Burns in recent fights -- There's no where left for him to go now I feel.. Ricky looked lean, sharp and accurate last night imo, although it was obvious from start he was classes above Cardle..
  4. Couldn't disagree there... I like Bellew, hope he has long and happy retirement, and hope he wins.. But as Burns v Cardle showed, Boxing is about levels and usyk is simply too many levels above.. Usykby stoppage around 6 Rd for me
  5. Sometimes they did..but, as always, depended on opponent.. Burns v Mitchell or Harrison v McCullough, for instance had no trouble packing them in, as they say.. When, not if, Taylor gets his shot at a 'Name' he'll sell out Hydro no problem for a 'big fight'.. I'm nothing more than a fan, so my opinion counts for nothing, but as an avid reader of boxing forums, and subscriber to 'Boxing News' have been impressed by the amount of people who really do know what they are talking about saying Taylor really is 'something special'
  6. Spot on about Burns v Mitchell - That was a crazy night outside the Ring Micky... Never really been into the whole MMA thing tbh, just never appealled to me for some reason, glad you're enjoying it tho.
  7. Re the 'empty seats' at The Hydro for the Taylor Fight last week.. I used to go to lot of Boxing Shows - 'small hall', Big shows the lot - Started going during time of Clinton, Weir et al and through Harrison to Burns- Had great times- The best night of my life, as a sports fan, bar none, above anygame of football, was watching fellow Coatbridge boy Ricky Burns beat Martinez at Kelvin hall to win his 1st world title.. Now, however, I am strictly an armchair fan only - still love the game, but wouldn't set foot in a show - The reason? Too many boozed up, or coked up, wee neds looking for a fight going now -- Just about every card you see now has reports of 'crowd disorder'.. it's really sad, I'd love, for instance, totake my wee nephew to experience a live show, butnot nowadays - From reading the boxing pages, lot of peoplefeeling the same now
  8. Gruden definitely having a fire-sale by looks of it... Gonna start from scratch when they get to Vegas!
  9. If you're a Glasgow boy, then technically The Giants are your 'Local Team'... 9am United Flight to Newark Arr 11i45am - Quick taxi/bus ride to Giants Stadium ( Don't Listen to they Jets fans ;-)) Get there in plenty of time for a beer and hot dog before a 4-25 Eastern Time KO game Just sayin'......
  10. Can't wait till next season when ??????? has OBJ, Barkley and Engram ... 😉
  11. What's your feeling on drafting Darnold now ? When I say that what I mean is , The Giants took a bit of criticism for drafting Barkley and "leaving" Darnold to The Jets - Would you rather, in hindsight, we'd taken Darnold or do you see him as a Franchise QB ? I have no particular opinion on Darnold, but was, and am still, happy with Barkley...It's been a bad one for The Giants again this year, but Barkley has been the shining light, and if, somehow, The Giants can sort the O-Line and / or find a mobile QB in the next week you never know.... With the NFC East being pretty poor overall this year if The Giants win next 2, Atlanta tonight and Washington on Sunday they'd be "right back in it" for the Divisional title - crazy as it seems!! TBH I doubt they will win both so the process of replacing Eli should start in earnest now - Either hope Lualetta, under Eli's guidance, turns out a good QB or Darft a decent, mobile QB and hopefully the offence can do something next year
  12. Welcome Brother :-) Picked a team yet ?
  13. Okay, fair point, don't necessarily disagree...but, purely, to be Devils Advocate... Firstly, keep "Gazza" in the picture, as a barometer so to speak, what if other individual had 2 DD's, or 3, or 4 -- What if he was 1% over limit moving his car up his own drive at 3am.....what if he was 200% over the limit driving past a Primary school at 4pm ?... Now take "Gazza" out the equation, but stick with Domestic Abuse - There are some people will will tell you if a man lifts his hand to a woman, ever, for any reason, once, he should not / can not ever be forgiven for doing so.... Again, I don't necessarily agree , nor disagree with that attitude, but what I'm saying is by doing this The SFA / Fans have opened up the proverbial can of worms and forevermore will have to decide 'Where's the line ?' -- There's all sorts of emotive / divise issues , all sorts of things people do that others find unacceptable that others don't..
  14. I'm not particularly bother if Gascoigne , or anyone else, is or isn't in the Hall of Fame or not , or even if the Hall of Fame exists.... But for as long as it does, is this whole shambles not in danger of creating a dangerous precedent, ie taking into consideration "moral factors".. IE I know a lot of people are against Gascoigne being including due to being guilty of domestic abuse - This is course is reprehensible and abhorent thing to do... Without wanting to sidetrack on a whole"what's worse?" debate, a lot of people would use the same words to describe, for instance, drink driving, so does that me we now exclude anyone with a DD conviction ? I don't know for sure obviously, but I'd be confident someone already in HoF has at least one of those in their life...
  15. I'm pretty sure it would have be Anfield had we made it
  16. A lot of these are bringing back bad memories, but just to change it slightly, let me throw in a couple of WINS ( Of Sorts) to the Mix EURO 96 1-0 Win v Switzerland -- 62 mins gone, Scotland leading 1-0, word comes through England are now winning 4-0 .. What's that ? We're through - We're actually going to FINALLY qualify for the KO stages of a tournament !!! The team senses Switzerland have downed tools and are already mentally on a beach somewhere and are the proverbial "there for the taking" and want to push on and get the 2nd goal to kill them off and give us that wee safety net..But Craig Brown - Ever concious of his Win / Loss ratio tells them no lads, keep it tight, 1-0 will do us...... And we all know how that one ended... Fast Forward 3 years - What we thought was going to be the last ever game at Wembley, a 21 year old Barry Ferguson strolls onto the pitch, effectively tells Beckham, Ince et al to go home as he owns this for the next 90 minutes, and boy did he...The best performance I have ever seen from a Scotland Midfielder. In the end Scotland win 1-0.....against England...... at Wembley.....In the last ever game( or so we thought at the time) ..... And it all meant absolutely f*** all .....................
  17. The NFL was founded in 1920, making it 98 years old, in it's history there have been 19 successful Field Goals over 60 yards long, the longest being 64 yards. Therefore, on average, approx 2 per DECADE... Last year, the Giants lost to a 61 yard last second FG to the Eagles Last night, Giants lost to a 63 yard, last second, FG against the Panthers - Meaning we lost to something that is almost literally impossible to do - The Coach, in theory, "shouldn't" have even called that play, a hail mary shot at the end zone was probably the statistical "right" call... Give me strength !! And, btw, I couldn't care less that he comes from Arbroath .......
  18. Still too soon then ;-) My honest memory of McAllister's Scotland career - not interested in how he played for anyone else - having seen the vast majority of it, is that he played alright against Holland at euro '96 and the rest of the time either stunk the place out or was so anonymous you wouldn't even have known he was on the park, save for Craig Brown insisting he hit every single dead ball... Imo for what it's worth - i.e. zilch - too many Scotland fans allow the last 20 mins or so of his scotland career cloud their judgement of his previous 56? Caps..
  19. Dare I say Gary McAllister.... Or is it still "too soon" ..... 😔 😂
  20. Can't help thinking the SPFL are missing an easy, and obvious, solution here -- Everyman and their dug it seems are getting stuck into them - The Clubs, fans, media...- So turn the situation around _ Say to the clubs, and whoever else fancies a crack at it.. 'Okay you have until, say, Friday at 5pm to have your solution at our offices - 3 caveats.. 1) Both Games MUST be played at Hampden ( Per contracts) 2) No other Member Clubs, nor their fans, can be inconvenienced and / or lose revenue in any way, shape or form. 3) Your proposal must be signed as being acceptable by ALL 4 Club Chairman or Chief Executive" To me, it's a no lose situation - Either someone comes up with a better solution, acceptable to all, or SPFL get to say " See, not so easy, is it?"
  21. Yep, me too -- Gonna leave us a QB this year - Return the favour, cheers 😢
  22. Ok, so there's no straightforward, or right or wrong answer, but, in my opinion, QB in The NFL is the hardest position to play in any sport -- The are other sports where you maybe need to be better at one thing eg Boxing for "taking a shot", Tour de France cycling for overall fitness - But for me there is no other sport, nor position where you have to be absolutely top notch at EVERYTHING - In no order, and not exclusively, A QB must have athleticism, agility, calmness under pressure, intelligence - both "sporting" and actual academic - Have you seen an NFL Playbook, how complex these are ? Some teams have different Playbooks every week, all of which must been learned perfectly, Leadership, Toughness - Did you see the hits these guys take ? Specifically within the game, if we look at the example you give - WR's need to have the ability to know the play, be where they should be when they should ( Run the Routes correctly) if plays goes according to plan, or "get open" ( Away from their marker, in football terms) if play starts to fall apart and QB has to improvise, occasionally block, and above all catch a ball and run.....None of this is easy, and these guys are all superb hard working athetes, but compared to a QB ? Again in no order, on every play, he has to correctly advise the rest of the offence the correct play that has been called, and usually a secondary option, whilst setting himself he has to be reading the defence, deciding are they going to blitz, drop into coverage, run defence, pass defence..Does he make changes to the play - Does he stick with the play ? Or use his "kill" word to change to the secondary ? All the while the opposition's middle linebacker is watching the QB / Offence calling his own changes, so the Qb reacts to that, and the MLB reacts to the QB reacting - BTW QB the play clock is at 3 seconds you need to decide what you're doing, get ready to start the play, of sh** are all my players ready, 2 seconds, should I change? 1 seconds...Oh oh two of their secondary ( Back players) have moved up to overload the line do we have enough blockers -- No time HIKE .... And the play starts - 1st the Qb has to secure the ball and get into position to pass, hoping his O line will buy him enough time to do that, will his line pick up all the pass rushers, or will he have to move around, who's got my back - right is my primary reciever open / No, where's my 2nd choice, he looks open, but where's the linebacker...what ways is that cornerback going to move, right choose reciever, anticipate where he will be in x seconds, realease..... OOH YA a 20 stone defensive end as just went right into my back and flattened me right on the turf, boy did that hurt... "And the Receiver has just made and eye catching 13 yard reception" First down, he trots back to the line of scrimmage... The QB ? He gets up, dusts himself down and starts all over again.... Oh, and did we mention "Clock management" ? 😉 And that, Mox, is why the QB's tend to get all the plaudits - Glad you enjoyed the game, watched the highlights this morning - Enjoyed it, Rams looking good this year
  23. "😭 It's no' fair, they're getting something we're no' getting - This is typical you've all always had it in for us for the last 1000 years boo hooo" And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, coupled with our ruling bodies not having the backbone to tell the gruesome twosome to button it, is the real reason why, despite it being far from perfect, we HAVE to have 2 semi finals in Glasgow on the same day..... It would lovely to live in a country where the governing bodies ran the show, but, the reality is they are left with this situation - Learn from it, take your medicine for this year, and from now till the end of time, DO NOT schedule League / Scottish Cup Semi-Finals at the end of European weeks
