  1. Not liking the look of this team. Presumably Tierney will be on the right which all but nullifies his attacking threat. Would much rather Fraser there and Tierney in place of the bombscare McKenna at centre back.
  2. He was still playing more often under Lampard even after Chelsea spent £200 million in the 2020 summer window. Definitely rated him more than Tuchel does.
  3. Disappointing since Lampard rated him so highly but understandable with Chelsea's form. Always a tough gig when you have Jorginho, Kovacic, Kante and now Niguez in the same position. Can see Gilmour moving to Southampton in future - good coach and would be about right in terms of where his ability stands just now.
  4. The covid issues/protocols are a pain in the backside when it comes to call-offs but agree with what Clarke is saying regarding still being competitive. We're threadbare in terms of squad depth, but from our first choice starting XI we're only missing O'Donnell/Patterson, McTominay and McGinn for the Denmark game. The latter two in particular are important players for us, but we should be able to replace the three positions with (likely) Fraser, Hendry and McLean without too much of a dramatic decline in quality.
  5. Snodgrass to West Ham from Hull was £10.2 million in 2017. Some of the other names...good lord.
  6. Fairly reasonable team considering the circumstances. I'd be happy enough with that tomorrow evening.
  7. This. Better teams in the world but they are a long, long way better than us.
  8. First Kane now Sterling. Laughable that wasn't overturned. Bunch of cheating wanks.
  9. Yes - that's the typical time to adapt an annual vaccine to new virus strains. Funnily enough there isn't decades of covid-19 research available for annual vaccine amendment.
  10. "Selecting Viruses for the Seasonal Influenza Vaccine | CDC" https://www.cdc.gov/flu/prevent/vaccine-selection.htm "T cells recognize recent SARS-CoV-2 variants | National Institutes of Health (NIH)" https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/t-cells-recognize-recent-sars-cov-2-variants "In their study of recovered COVID-19 patients, the researchers determined that SARS-CoV-2-specific CD8+ T-cell responses remained largely intact and could recognize virtually all mutations in the variants studied. While larger studies are needed, the researchers note that their findings suggest that the T cell response in convalescent individuals, and most likely in vaccinees, are largely not affected by the mutations found in these three variants, and should offer protection against emerging variants."
  11. Indeed, to be honest just find the Griffiths situation sad. By the sounds of Neil Lennon's interview on Sportsound a couple of weeks ago he doesn't have any motivation. There were multiple chances in our Euros matches (especially second half v the Czechs) you'd have been confident a 2017 Griffiths would have taken had he been on the park. So disappointing his Scotland career went downhill a few months after he started scoring for us.
  12. The cost of lockdown/restrictions is approximately £1bn to the UK economy every day (i.e. ~£100mn for the Scottish economy daily). I wouldn't say it's worth the knock-on consequences. Also I have had covid and had a dry throat for a week. That was it. Every year the flu virus adapts and vaccines are tweaked. Worse case scenario is the vulnerable require a booster on an annual basis.
  13. Had no idea Mitrovic had 41 international goals. That's a bloody impressive return for a 26-year-old.
  14. David Healy was a bizarre case for NI. Played in the second tier of England for the majority of his career and still managed 36 international goals. No reason we can't have that. Even looking through other international sides Kolbeinn Sigþórsson of Iceland has 26 goals, Teemu Pukki has 30, and going further back Robbie Keane had 68. None of whom come close to being regarded as world class. We seem cursed in the sense our most naturally talented strikers turn out to either be bams that go off the rails (Riordan, Griffiths, Cummings) or guys whose careers end up disappointing. Going a few years back many of us saw Jordan Rhodes as the second coming when he was scoring at a phenomenal rate in his early years. He's only managed 46 goals since the start of the 2015-16 season and now at Huddersfield. No reason why Che Adams couldn't end up with 20 goals for us, but no signs of anyone else you'd be confident coming close to that in terms of strikers.
  15. The latest research actually shows your immune system will cope with new strains of the virus so no need to panic at all. The far bigger worry is the effects of lockdown in terms of the education gap, mental health consequences, undiagnosed cancers, businesses winding up, and so on. Living in Edinburgh the papers are full of hysteria about the delta variant. Number of covid deaths? Three since 26th April. Time to get the economy moving. If anything you should be thanking everyone that went down to London.
  16. Enjoyed reading this, especially the bits about our lame excuses of not having street urchins kicking balls around around streets and computer games. Shout at the radio every time I hear someone on Sportsound peddle this guff.
  17. I'm flattered you've spent hours Googling Latin phrases and scouring the internet for reports to show a handful of people have who were vaccinated. It's a lovely evening - get out and make the most of it. If your argument to maintain continued panic and covid restrictions is based on a miniscule number of unvaccinated people who have died then fair enough. Difference of opinion.
  18. Straight to the emotional appeal as opposed to facts is usually an admission of defeat, so thanks very much. Certainly time will tell what the correct strategy is; let's see where countries such as New Zealand that have built up no immunity amongst their population are in a year's time. Anyone with common sense would realise it's to demonstrate the likelihood is the deaths are amongst older people who haven't been vaccinated.
  19. You'd need to ask the original commenter, but I'd define evasion as complete evasion as opposed to reduced effectiveness. If a virus isn't causing significant loss of life/hospitalisations then what's the problem? Certainly I wouldn't define having very mild symptoms as being evasive. For some perspective on numbers, 17 people in Scotland died with coronavirus over the past week; 2 of the 17 were under 65. 1,043 people died from all causes in the same time period. Time for everyone to get on with life and enjoy themselves again.
  20. Name one piece of evidence where a variant has evaded any of the approved vaccines? Good on everyone who went down I say, great to see people out enjoying themselves again.
  21. Providing a team has a minimum of 13 players including a goalkeeper the game will go ahead as scheduled. If a team has less than 13 players available, the match will be rescheduled within the next 48 hours (I'm assuming this wouldn't happen due to quarantine regulations). If a match cannot be rescheduled, UEFA take a decision on the outcome; most likely to result in a 3-0 loss per a forfeited match. Regarding player replacements - only goalkeepers may be replaced during the tournament owing to serious injury/illness.
  22. Likewise. Fleck would be the change with the least knock-on effects for our shape. Need to keep McTominay at centre-half after that performance on Friday.
