  1. Robertson is a converted winger player left-back. He challenges and tackles like one. And is terrible in the air. Fine for Liverpool who have loads of the ball and have a formation at centre-back and central-midfield to protect him. But for Scotland he's a liability.
  2. I'd say Thompson is intelligent enough and self-aware enough to realise his limitations as a footballer and will be grateful he had an international career, never mind he scored a goal or two. If he was in the condition he was at 35 in his 20s, he would have had a few more caps as well. Thompson is a level or two above McFadden when it comes to intelligence so I doubt the latter would have enjoyed the ribbing.
  3. Because he's said he's not interested and he'd get a better and higher paying job in club football?
  4. I'm not renewing. After years of enduring terrible qualifying matches, attendance at which is only justifiable due to the outside chance of the team qualifying for a tournament and thus being able to have enough away points for tickets, I now don't even want to go to the tournaments if we are lucky enough to qualify again. The 24-team Euros have ruined that competition and the World Cup being awarded to Qatar and possibly becoming a 48-team tournament have ruined it as well.
  5. Do you know Wanderer? If you don't, you really should.
  6. I know loads of people who don't follow their national team. It's not a given, particularly if you're a more fanatical follower of a club team. As for supporters of certain clubs saying they follow another national team, that's often for effect and it's not like they're proper passionate fans. People can support, or not support, who they like. It's just football teams and really not that important.
  7. Phillips had three eye-catching performances in club games that were live on the telly around February / March time and that got him selected for five squads. Impressive work by him.
  8. It was an international friendly. So nothing could be learned.
  9. What kind of person makes the effort to boo anything? I don't like something so I'm going to make a stupid sound to show I don't like it? Moronic.
  10. I think Robertson may have been a bit unfortunate in that he has inspired Moreno into a decent run of form. The coach of the Spanish national team, who is presumably a decent judge of a player, seems to thinks so anyway as Moreno's been recalled to the Spain Squad. http://www.football365.com/news/recalled-moreno-playing-like-an-undroppable-starter
  11. I don't really think he's the level of player or type of person to make demands at a club of Liverpool's stature, particularly as he's only been there for three months. He'll get a run of games at some stage.
  12. Scotland perhaps cost a Test victory by one its better players being unavailable because he's training with an invitational team he's no chance of playing for. Very strange decision by Finn Russell. Good to see the Lions lose though. I wonder what its future is as there seems no point in them touring South Africa or Australia again given how bad their international and provincial teams are.
  13. Liam Williams is the likely test full-back. He'll start there on Saturday.
  14. Robertson better hope Klopp's Sky+ was on the blink for today's game then. Gash.
  15. The Lions won't be playing like Scotland do so it's an irrelevance to take the style of play and how many tries scored into consideration. As mentioned by Biffer above, there were a few tight calls and all of them went against Scotland players other than Seymour. Twickenham and Allianz Park is the reason those tight decisions went against the players who missed out.
  16. I'm not sure of that stat but as it's an isolated one, it's of no use unless it's used in conjunction with all of the other stats in a multi-faceted position.
  17. Jonny had an average 6 Nations and there is a lot of competition in the second row. I reckon Henderson will have a good tour and could challenge for the test team. Laidlaw is far too slow to play scrum-half in a Gatland team.
  18. On a wider point though, I'm one of those people who views the Lions as an anachronism and don't really see the point of the best players from four teams joining together to play one team. South African rugby looks to be permanently f v c k e d and it's not worth touring there again. Similarly, Australia is also struggling and it isn't a rugby union country so the Lions should stop touring there as well, which given they only started playing test series against the Wallabies in 1989 shouldn't be too controversial. New Zealand is the only place worth touring and the Lions will always get gubbed there so there really is no point in the Lions.
  19. Indeed but I think it's clear that different rationale was used for the selection of Scottish players and Welsh players. Halfpenny should be nowhere near the squad other than to hoover up points for the midweek team. Even then I'd expect Hogg to play 15 in that team and Biggar to play 10 and he could do the kicking.
  20. We were lucky to get two tourists. Earls and Zebo both had better Six Nations than Seymour, who has a quiet tournament. Richie Gray was better than Jonny during the tournament as well so Jonny was never going to go. Particularly as they are behind Launchbury who was left out. The others in contention were long shots but weren't going to get picked after the debacle at Twickenham and Glasgow's horsing at Saracens. Hogg won't make the test team. Liam Williams will be full-back. A great finisher but far superior to Hogg under the high ball and defensively. Plus he can pass. New Zealand kick the ball loads so the back three will all have to be safe under the high ball.
  21. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/apr/19/the-forgotten-story-of-dundee-united-glory-years-under-jim-mclean?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other Great article about Jim McLean and Dundee United's glory years. Amazingly that time he set about a journalist with a hammer isn't mentioned.
  22. "Not a expert" You should prefix all of your posts with that.
  23. He needs to be more careful with the ball, particularly if he is going to play as a 10. Presumably that is being worked on at RB Leipzig and training with better technical coaches and players will give him every chance of improving. But he shouldn't be playing in either position until he's ready given what he still has to learn. Given his physical and athletic attributes, he'll be some player if he can master the technical side of the game.
  24. Anyone who has watched Burke will agree there is a lot of work to be done on his technique and touch before he plays as a striker or number 10 for club or country.
  25. It says 11,687 for senior males. But the genuine figure is about three-to-four thousand fewer given the reduction in the number of clubs and the number of sides they put out compared to 10 or 20 years ago.
