  1. His mum transferred £200k into his account to avoid paying £80k inheritance tax ? Funnily enough i dont remember him mentioning that little fact when he was slagging off Jeremy Corbyn's attire during the wistful memories of his mum always telling him to wear a smart suit and do up his tie. 80 grand in squirrelled tax could buy a few Saville Row suits. Clothes maketh the man indeed.
  2. It never fails to amaze me how music can bring memories flooding back. I heard a song on the radio the other day that immediately transported me back to 1977 and Camphill High School S2 end of term disco. The girls were standing down one side of the assembly hall , the boys down the other. A tuck shop was in the corner which in itself would provide George Osbourne with enough sugar tax to clear the national debt. The girls with their Farah Fawcett hair flicks and the boys in their Oxford Bags. Every boys entire dance routine ( if you could actually get them to dance) was to slide one leg to the right then drag the other leg across to meet it , whilst dipping the shoulders in the same direction . They would then repeat the process on the other side, and so on. This routine was used for every song, no matter the tempo . I had more heartbreaks than i care to remember but feel nothing but sheer happiness at the memory. The song i heard was ' From New York to LA ' by Patsy Gallant. Cheesy pop at its brilliant best. Anyone of that era who did not enjoy the song may have as well been dead. If anyone is still awake after my trip down memory lane is their any music that brings back particular memories, good or bad?
  3. The Walking Dead. I have not seen it but kinda feel your other half may have a valid reason for finding THAT particular programme far fetched ☺️
  4. Haha , I was actually aware what you were getting at , but being a woman I couldn't resist having a moan about a guy having a moan about women ! ? Will def give The Wire a go, if I ever get through 7 series of Sons of Anarchy that is. Jury is still out on that, few episodes in and am pretty indifferent to it.
  5. Ahem , not all wummin enjoy all that Towie pish. I am proud to say i havent as much as purchased a Hello magazine in all my 52 years. I rate the Sopranos and Breaking Bad as the best series' i have watched. Yes, Breaking Bad is a little far fetched however it is after all supposed to be entertainment . I can only recall 2 things i disliked about about. The episode about the Fly ( wtf was that all about) and the White's family home. I found it so dark and dreary ( that i do concede is a pretty wumminy thing to say ....) , i found it more depressing than the junkies . Watched Better Call Saul immediately after finishing BB and given Saul was my favourite character was quite disappointed in it. However i stuck with it and agree with other posters that it definitely improves. The second series introduces more of the BB characters and is becoming an interesting prequel. Agree about Mike.
  6. That is of course quite possible, though it would take quite a bit of nerve. Not sure there are many people out there in that particular situation that would have that clarity, unless they overdosed on Die Hard movies?
  7. I only know what i have read on these 2 links however, without stating the bloody obvious , anyone posing for a photo with a bloke who has just held up a plane for 5 hours in a possible terror attack is a complete and utter walloper. And i cannot believe a member of the cabin crew took the photo. That surely must be a tabloid error. If not the world truly has gone mad.
  8. The only thing that is consistent is your continuous claim that you are getting a tax increase, which you clearly are not. And those who oppose your views are not necessarily nationalistic. I would support this tax band staying the same if Labour , or any other unionist party for that matter, proposed it.
  9. Well all I can say is 'hurrah' for all the pharts in the world . Trying to separate the wheat from the chaff on 345643267 google search engine results is an art in itself. That said, I wouldn't go back. I was born in the early 60's. I still have nightmares about my P5 homework. Try finding the names of '20 suspension bridges of the world' from one mouldy old Encyclopaedia Brittanica.
  10. Gutted. You have spoiled the illusion. And here's me thinking you were our very own TA time lord.
  11. Is a ridiculous idea. Up there with people who re-new their marriage vows.
  12. I stopped short at describing my consumption of the fondant in fear of sounding like creme egg porn ?
  13. Just tried one. I used to be able to grind the chocolate down with my teeth without it breaking. Now it collapses. Also, i never used to be able to get a whole egg in my mouth at once, now i can. So they are definitely getting smaller unless my mouth is shrinking. My husband has confirmed otherwise.
  14. I am sure you will both be able to claim tax relief.
  15. Completely agree. I cannot believe 5 pages have been dedicated to a question a monkey could answer. No you will not pay more income tax than you were. Yes you will pay more income tax than the rest of the UK. Whether you like it or not is simply down to personal opinion. I am fortunate enough to be in this tax bracket and when i voted YES in the referendum it was with a clear understanding that if Scotland was to become more socially just then i was going to have to take a hit one way or another. You cannot have it both ways. Anyone earning over £42k is doing pretty well in Scotland. Others , especially those who voted NO will not see it that way. They think they are being shafted as they were happy with the status quo. However the vast majority of people in Scotland want devolved powers and the whole bloody point is not to stay the same as the UK. The limited powers will make it really tricky . It will take years to change things and doesn't really help when people are greetin at the first hurdle. At the top of the thread there was an advert suggesting i may be due a £2500 tax refund. I suggest everyone moaning give it a click .
  16. 'Make up the rules as we go along'. Isnt it reassuring that 50 years on things are so much more transparent... Right enough that film makes 'making a murderer' look like the Teletubbies.
  17. I honeslty have no idea how you know all this stuff. I got the gist of what you were saying despite the removal of sweary words. The film filled in the blanks. With regards to the Marshall Islands i still dont understand why the anti nuclear groups arent making more of it.
  18. Can you expand a bit Phart ? To me, Diego Garcia sounds like another overpaid footballer. ? (though a quick google search confirms otherwise) Just pretend you are educating your 12,yr old daughter.
  19. I dont use Facebook or Twitter so cant compare at all but from things i hear i think this board may be a bit more respectful to other posters than other social media outlets, well apart from the odd handbag fight. What i do notice though is the high number of viewers per thread versus posters. Is this ratio normal on social media? What would make more people get involved? Do they feel they have nothing to add or feel a bit intimidated ?
  20. There is a letter in today's National about the Marshall Islands suing all 9 nuclear armed states at the Intl Criminal Court for their failure to implement the Non-proliferation Treaty which they signed on 1968. I have never heard of this which in itself isnt surprising however i cannot see any media attention to this and it seems to have moved to a fairly important stage. Does anyone know what the chances are of any degree of success ? This is one of the few things i found on it . http://m.greenpeace.org/international/en/high/news/Blogs/nuclear-reaction/marshall-islands-icj-nuclear-lawsuit/blog/55905/
  21. Think this definetley linked to EU. Not only is he now able to become more vocal on EU he sticks the knife in Osbourne and raises Boris's chances of being next PM.
  22. This is the first time i have laughed all weekend. I think it should be reinstated.
  23. I would have thought that the Cinderella and Mary Poppins references would have made that obvious. But as you say , sometimes people are so paranoid they cant see the wood from the trees.
