  1. You MIGHT have a legal basis for challenging this but it's hard to say without knowing a lot more detail. The starting point for me on this is that you say no consultation happened; depending on what that looks like (I don't want to jump to conclusions) but that might be illegal if what has happened is a genuine redundancy. In your case TUPE law will apply; that makes the employers case more complex to manage. I wouldn't make any substantive change to any post, never mind a TUPEd one without ensuring contractual consultation had taken place. I think 3 months is generally seen as reasonable (possibly law; I'd have to check that out). A post can't really be "effectively" redundant. It either is or it isn't. If it is, you have a clear set of statutory rights. If it's not then what they have done is significantly change T&Cs by the sound of it which likewise an ET would expect would be accompanied by a period of consultation. HR law is notoriously messy & ultimately most things can only be decided at an Employment Tribunal. That could (but doesn't automatically have to) involve you claiming constructive dismissal. The caveat here is I don't know the ins & outs nor what they have actually said & done. Good advice above is see a union rep, & join if you don't have one.
  2. I'm slightly disappointed that the headline didn't say 'Driver Gives Dons A Lift'
  3. If I ever got my wife anything like that for any occasion whatsoever she'd kill me, so you're not alone.
  4. I suspected as much. Next you'll be telling me I have to pay for the meal out as well.
  5. My two are 23 & 20. Anyone got any clues when they should take over responsibility for organising it themselves?
  6. This was a really special match for me. One of the only times, given the advent of all-seater stadia that I got to go ballistic with my lad (aged 10 at the time) on a packed terrace behind the goal. Two injury time goals from a central defender brought on as a sub to play up front away at York who we were neck & neck with in the play-off chase at the time.
  7. You can't ever say categorically a judge will or won't mitigate in particular circumstances but there's nothing I know of in case law (though I aren't a lawyer). The simple point is that a child is not deemed to be capable of consent in law. Guidance is here: http://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/s_to_u/sentencing_manual/s9_sexual_activity_with_a_child/ and http://www.cps.gov.uk/news/fact_sheets/sexual_offences/
  8. The location of the initial meeting would have virtually no bearing on it.There's case law where under 16s were working as prostitutes & the court ruled that to be irrelevant.
  9. The crime is an absolute one I think; there's an obligation (not dissimilar to the Ched Evans scenario) that if you're in any doubt about the other person's capacity or capability to consent, you stop. Capability to consent starts at 16 in law, so he's likely to struggle. The only significant mitigation in law for sex with a minor is a narrow age gap between the two parties.
  10. I'm not sure what the law on this looks like in Scotland but there's an argument that the crime would be related to harassment law (behaviour designed to cause nuisance, alarm or distress or words to that effect). Again knowledge based on the law in England but he'd probably be looking at a suspended sentence at worst or more likely a community order.
  11. I've seen suggestions on other websites that it might be crystal formations from meteor hits; high albedo & reflecting sunlight. There's some other time-lapse photos that seem to show similar features at a higher (lower??) latitude that to my untrained eye look like a reflection (brightening then dimming). The photos are primarily for orbit alignment at this stage so it will be interesting to find out what it is.
  12. My daughter is a fluent speaker, so I asked her....she said, & I quote: Rinn mi anns an dòigh agam fhìn e. Though it sounds stupid and he probably shouldn't get it tattooed anywhere!
  13. I got the mini 0806 mentioned above on the back of good reviews. The basic camera is £100, with add-ons for GPS, micro card so I ended up paying about £130. It's small & fairly discrete but needs a bit of faffing around to get the wiring sorted. Also there's no suction pad only adhesive ones so you need to decide where you want it. I like the look of it though.
  14. I'll take the boy racer option. Watch out for the YouTube channel
  15. Long before the days of technology I got shafted by my insurance who decided that an accident my wife was in was 90% the other person's fault & 10% hers...no explanation for why but bobs yer aunty & away went the no claims bonus. I was taught when I was learning to drive that you should act as though everyone else on the road is a nutcase, which to this day I firmly believe to be true As for the filter It just clicks onto the camera lens. To be honest I assumed it was called that on account of it being circular!! As far as I can tell looking at it, it's a uniform design all the way round so no reason to move it & the camera lens is fixed. Anyway, I've got the Bermuda shorts on & the roof down as I head out to equally sunny Barnsley to test it out; cheers for the info gents.
  16. I just invested in a dashcam. Obviously I'd like to pretend it was part of my commitment to safe driving but really just looks a cool gadget with the potential for a viral YouTube clip along the way. Anyhow, it comes with something called a Circular Polarising Filter which impressed me no end even though I haven't a clue what it is. Anyone out there able to help? Should I leave it on all the time, put it on under certain road/weather conditions or just leave it in the glove box whilst boasting down the pub that I've got one to sound clever? Also it reckons that it will automatically start recording if it detects movement in the car when the engine is off, but leaving a diddy little camera in the car when I'm away feels a bit like inviting someone to nick it?? Just wondering if other folk leave them in all the time or hide them when not using them? Cheers
  17. For me it would be Steve Kindon back in 1979-80. I can't ever remember a player galvanising us in quite the way he did. He was the driving force that took us to the 4th Division championship that season (the last time we ever finished top of any division). He had to retire a couple of years later following a fractured skull but remains a legend. I remember him being booed remorselessly one Tuesday night at Burnley (who we signed him from) during the warm-up & as the game started. He contrived to score after about 90 seconds, ran away from the Town fans in one corner of the ground, spun round the goal in front of the Burnley end & back towards us giving the two-fingered salute all the way. It's a tragedy they banned that sort of thing I saw him recently when we played Wolves (his other former club). He's about 60 & 20-odd stone & still acts like he has ADHD.
  18. I bet that was a nice quiet afternoon on the terraces. Somerton Park on any day was a hellish place to visit never mind when Millwall were in town.
  19. In the last 2 or 3 years: Scarborough Athletic v. Brighouse Town Droylesden v. Darlington East Fife v. Stenhousemuir (although not completely neutral; East Fife have always been my second team) Celtic v. St. Johnstone Bridlington v. Liversedge Albion Rovers v. Clyde Annan Athletic v. Berwick Berwick v. Queen's Park Berwick v. Annan Whitby Town v. Chorley Ossett Albion v. Someone or other I can't remember. Couple of Halifax Town games Probably a few other obscure ones as well!!
  20. You can download the Register of Member's Interests easily enough, a quick Google will do it, but you would need to know the names of the companies you were interested in to find anything. Have a look at theyworkforyou.com as well which can help see who is making a noise about what, but (unless anyone is any the wiser) I think you probably have to do your own research or tap into anyone else who is doing it. From a purely legal point of view being a shareholder & having a conflict of interest in anything is generally deemed to be legitimate & legal as long as it's declared & the appropriate voting strategy adopted. Tracking influence elsewhere in the system though is way more difficult.
  21. Bizarrely the BBC has an article today on 'How to spot a Russian bomber', with a nod to the old WW2 aircraft recognition cards. http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-magazine-monitor-31537705 Re-issue this I say.
  22. A few years ago but this is a FoI request asking that very question. I think there's extra costs around the TMOs & what have you they need but seems a long way from your quoted cost. https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/cost_of_traffic_signals
  23. Sad but true I suspect. It's interesting to see how Russia are being repositioned as an old school enemy at the moment. ISIS can't nuke us (at least not yet & if they could you'd assume they'd do it regardless of deterrent), so I think there's a need to re-invent a Cold War enemy to make sure the population continue to see the need to spend those billions.
