Goozay
In New York at the start of April so was looking to head along for the baseball. Which is the better experience - Yankees or Mets? Ticketmaster says they'll have tickets available soon. Is that the best source for tickets?
Sherps
Use StubHub for tickets. You can choose tickets based on which area you want to sit in and also price. The majority of tickets you buy will be e-mailed to you. Yankee Stadium and CitiBank are relatively new baseball stadiums, so they're both good. If I were you, though, I'd go and see the Yankees. Neither team are predicted to be especially brilliant next season (as things stand, at least) but the Yankees are the most storied franchise in the sport, so going to a baseball game in New York and choosing to see the Mets would be like going to a football game in Barcelona and deciding to see Espanyol. Scotunited
you will also be able to pick up tickets from touts outside the stadium, was surprised how many touts there were as soon as you get of the subway at Yankee stadium. was able to get 2 tickets for $50 dollars with a facevalue of $35 each, a bit riskier than stubhub etc, but always an option. deecie
Whatever you do, don't underestimate quite how boring the game of baseball actually is.
bajin
How early in April? The season starts on the 6th I think and the Mets are not at home until the following week.
Pool Q
Whatever you do, don't underestimate quite how boring the game of baseball actually is. Fair point. Copious amounts of alcohol makes it just about bearable. To be fair once you learn more about the game it gives you the ability to appreciate how tedious it really is. Goozay
I've got the option of a 1.05 start on the Monday or a 7.05 start on the Wednesday or Thursday at Yankee stadium. What's more fun, afternoon or evening? I assume both sell beer.
Sherps
I've got the option of a 1.05 start on the Monday or a 7.05 start on the Wednesday or Thursday at Yankee stadium. What's more fun, afternoon or evening? I assume both sell beer. Night games are better. Day games are usually quieter, and despite the fact they should probably be in school, I've always found there to be more kids at day games. Both will sell beer, although expect them to stop serving alcohol before the game finishes. It may be during the middle of the 7th inning, if memory serves. If you've got any questions on the game or the rules, just let me know. Fair point. Copious amounts of alcohol makes it just about bearable. To be fair once you learn more about the game it gives you the ability to appreciate how tedious it really is. Whatever you do, don't underestimate quite how boring the game of baseball actually is. At least you two didn't go for the stock "glorified rounders" response.

Got a couple of tickets via Stubhub for the Wednesday night game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The seats are in the top tier looking onto first base. Any other tips? Is the food any good or should we eat before arrive? Its a 7.05pm start, is getting to the ground half an earlier alright or should we factor in more time to get to our seats or take in the atmosphere? Does the subway station Yankee Stadium get ridiculously rammed on match day? According to Google Maps we can get a bus that takes just over half an hour - the subway takes about half an hour? youngmirt
Plenty choice of food, nachos ,burgers, hot dogs, pizza etc, but the beer is expensive think it was around $8 a can from the guys who walk up and down the aisle and that was 3 years ago. And they expect the change as a tip so $10 a can. The subway wasn't too busy but i got there an hour before the start of the game and even going straight back after the game it was fine, nothing like queuing for the train at mount florida. Sherps
Eat at the ballpark. Hot Dog and a Beer is all part of the experience. Getting there early will allow you time to have a stroll around the place also. Anywhere between 45mns to 1hr before first pitch is perfect. As mentioned above, Subway is fine. No idea what the bus is like, although, unlike here where buses seem to be populated predominantly by old grannies, anytime I've ever been on a bus in America it's been full of every type of looney you could imagine. Learn the words to "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" also.

Maq
Whatever you do, don't underestimate quite how boring the game of baseball actually is. This. I went to a Yankees game. Bloody awful, was there for hours, it finished 1-1! Most exciting but was when everyone stood up to do stretches in the 7th innings. Go to the basketball instead would be my advice! Goozay
This. I went to a Yankees game. Bloody awful, was there for hours, it finished 1-1! Most exciting but was when everyone stood up to do stretches in the 7th innings. Go to the basketball instead would be my advice! If we've been there for an hour and a bit, not getting it but getting bored instead we'll just leave. There's no point staying till the end if we're not enjoying it - its not a Scotland game! We could go to the basketball too as we're there for a week - I had a quick look but the tickets seemed pretty pricey - any tips for cheaper ones but where you're not up in "The Gods"? Pool Q
I hope you enjoy it, many do. I've been to over half a dozen game snow (in New York, Chicago, Boston and Miami). Friends/colleagues over there just refuse to accept that I don't get it and don't like it; they clearly believe that if they drag me along one more time I'll experience some sort of epiphany and it will all fall into place. They are wrong. Each to their own.
Goozay
Went to see the Yankees on Wednesday and really enjoyed it. Loved the old school ritual of it all including the organ music. In terms of the game itself it actually reminded of curling, believe it or not - in terms of the pace. Nothing much seemed to happen for a while with both teams cancelling each other out. Then one team gets a run and then another so all of a sudden there's one of them in a clear lead without an obvious shift in gear. Then one team can have a nightmare innings and concede three runs in a couple of minutes. That's what happened - Yankees won 4-3 but only because the Blue Jays bawsed up fielding and pitching in the penultimate innings. If you're a tourist in the States I'd recommend going along for the experience.
