  1. Book sounds up my street. “Time was passing like a hand waving from a train I wanted to be on," and all that. Ally, I was lifted over them same turnstiles, and (unless my wee boy memory is screwed up, Hampden too?) I still go to New DP on rare occasions, but have still never seen Accies win. This will of course be of no surprise to viewers in colour or black and white. Huddy, my birthday is in a couple of months, so here's hoping...
  2. Still bumping into stuff on YT. That took me onto Norah Jones doing a cover of Black Hole Sun, but that will get me into trouble again I have three musical regrets (OK, four or five, I can't play for shit and can't even tune the bastardin thing). I mean gig wise... I never saw AC/DC at the Apollo in '78 (was not into them yet), I never saw Thin Lizzy at the Apollo around the same time (sold out!), and I never saw Chris Cornell in any guise So here is Edith Piaf
  3. Oh ffs I thought I was following this too. Anyway, I quite like the idea of the NL. Lets see how it goes. Hope I'm around to do a Little Big Man and reminisce about how it was in the old days.
  4. OK, I'm assuming that did not go down well; So... AWB in 1973. Retro shirt aw'aw. I like the Feel No Fret album myself. Never been to Barbados, but this surely feels like being there somewhere near a beach. Got wonderful crackly vinyl noises on this too...
  5. OK, just keep things simple, one step at a time. Win this group and put aside whatever happens afterwards. Not something that we are used to (cursed as favourites), but should we totally fail, the bright side is that the euros in 2024 from group D should be... ...easy
  6. Heuch's Dead South took me via Abby The Spoon Lady onto a dude demo'ing a fretless guitar.
  7. I think that demonstrates what a great chance this is for us. Your "stop losing to teams a little better than Georgia" is the worrying bit of course.
  8. I've been stung twice by wasps. First time I knelt on one on my bed. It was cooried up in the sheets. Second time I was standing at a bus stop and one got up my jeans. Flares in them days! Got to about six inches from the top when I felt a strange stirring. Got stung when I made a sudden grab there with my hands. Didn't think I could explain things to the old wummin at the bus stop, so just limped off back to my girlfriend's for some vinegar. Disorientated or after the sugar?
  9. Talking of broken records, where are you Heuch? I hope you are well. Mibbe you've just reached that age when all music nowadays is shecht. I've never pretended to like all of your tunes, but enjoyed many of your videos - and (what's prompted me here) I've done an Exile and re-posted at least one of yours as you know. Maybe it's the quality of us other posters that has depressed you so
  10. Yeah, I was going to re-run Going to Hell come hallowe'en an aw', but you're wearing it out Feck it, no one will remember come October.
  11. I'm not going, but what is Lake Ohrid like from the Albanian side? Pogradec and so on if anyone's up for touring? Loved the Macedonian side (tourist friendly, but small). Didn't get across, but drove near the border and while checking a map, some police/army checked us out in their armoured car. A smile, a wave and a wink and they were happy and on their way... the missus didn't need to do anything
  12. Thanks Ally. I was in the middle of typing some questions there. Still got some, though may need to re-read your paste/post again slowly. I thought the theory was that 'inflation' must have happened early in the history of the universe (by which, yes I 'understood' space expanding faster than light). So is space still expanding faster than light? The book I read may have been pre-dark energy and pre-Carolyn. I can't keep up. I'm missing something... red shift is how we tell what is moving away faster. The further away stuff is, the faster it's moving away, right? Since stuff far away is also furthest back in time ('cause its light takes longer to reach us) does that mean stuff (or space) used to move (inflate) faster? So then the universe is not expanding as fast now. If it is expanding faster now, should we not see stuff closer to us (i.e. more recent in time) red-shifted further. Feck, my tea must have been out when that bit of Horizon came on and I missed a crucial point
  13. So long as we don't know everything, some folk will just say it's magic or something in a teapot did it. That's good that we don't know it all though. The big mysteries to me look like fudges though (an open door for teapots)... dark matter, dark energy and inflation (i.e. Ally's bit about the space the universe occupies having expanded faster than light, if I've got that right). Some folk don't even believe in Newtonian mechanics though. ...well ok they do, except strangely for the stuff they can't see . They seem to think scientists just have faith in their assertions.
  14. Now you're talking! Seriously though, you keep saying things like, "Atheists worship themselves." Apart from feeling insulted by this, it is nonsense. I am not a deity; imagined nor real.
  15. I believe the France & Italy games drop off next. With 4 home and 2 away games to come this year, the max will rise from 16 + 6 points to 22 by my calculation.
  16. Any surveyors out there with a theodolite? Here's an experiment. Take your theodolite to the shore at one end of Loch Maree and measure a pole at the other end 12 miles away. Do the same on the shore around half way on or near the islands. If the same angle is measured for a 6 foot pole at the end as the middle then the earth is flat? Might be easier on Loch Lomond.
  17. Ha I'm trying my best here. Memory is not a reliable source Just this minute walked out on Blade Runner sequel before the finish. Memories ain't what they used to be.
  18. NTL put cable into a lot of areas before they went bust & bought by Virgin. Those areas will be much faster on average. I live in one, but am not connected, so am ten times slower (~8Mb/s) than my post code's average (80Mb/s). You can run a speed test here. Another thing that raises local speeds is FTTC. If they've fitted fibre to your local cabinet you'll get much faster speeds if it's within a few hundred metres.
  19. Even BBC pundits have stopped tipping Accies for the drop now. They usually seem to go out the cups in the first rounds. I wonder if they just prioritise the league, and even then put in some awful performances against the top teams as if they save themselves for the six-pointers. Hope we're not taking this thread off topic
