  1. Cheers, if we get through a handful of good players at each age group I suppose it’s moving in the right direction
  2. Syecosse, any idea how many of those players came through the Performance Schools?
  3. And a goal now. Gilmour starting v Ajax later but Doak out injured for Liverpool
  4. Well he more or less had to say that based on the question and the context of the interview. I’d be very surprised if he was suddenly called up now given that he hasn’t been called up before now
  5. No totally! I edited my message too late. I wouldn’t have him in either! But I could maybe understand the argument a bit more if he’s a squad player to bring on to help see out a result
  6. I actually think it’s about the best argument I’ve heard in favour of McBurnie. We’ve looked a bit shite at defending set pieces recently. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always thought McBurnie’s pretty much horseshit (but open to proven wrong, it’s happened many times before!) but maybe it’s an aspect to his game that the team could actually do with. By the way, still wouldn’t touch him with a barge pole 😂
  7. Hopefully he comes on for McBurnie and it’ll be like a passing of the baton
  8. Adams plays well for our system. His work off the ball allows the midfielders to get forward. He’s got a better touch than our other strikers, his link up lay is better and he’s got decent pace. For me, he’s our best forward, but not a great goal scorer. I do agree that it’s a relatively weak point in our team and certainly in our squad but I personally think we’re weaker at centre back. Give away too many soft goals and chances at the top level. I think if we added a couple of top half premier league standard defenders, we’d be an excellent side. Due to our midfield and full backs, we’re still no bad
  9. With David Provan back behind the mic
  10. Any of our squad players may need to get called into action for a Euros game against a big team next summer. Who knows what will unfold. Playing last night helps them know a bit more what it’s all about. We’re about to play in a Euros and a top league in the Nations League. We’re now not going in cold to those games. Maybe we won’t be good enough but better getting the lessons out the way now
  11. Totally agree. We need to learn how to play top sides and tweak little things here and there which will allow us to be competitive. We have some weaknesses in the team which won’t be shown up by lesser teams. The only way to learn how to mitigate those weaknesses and maximise playing to our strengths will be through games against this type of team. Shying away from these type of games might mean we just get pumped in the Euros again. Facing up to these games gives us a chance to become better and hopefully get through the group.
  12. That’s a diverse list of clubs!
  13. Watching match of the day while scrolling on my phone (I’m not proud!) and hear the commentator go “a swing and a miss from McBurnie”, look a moment too late while thinking aye, he’s still got it
  14. This leaves a bit if a bad taste for me. Glory hunter taking advantage of lax rules. Once you play for one country at full international level, you’ve already chosen.
  15. Good to know. So if we win our other games and lost to Spain by one goal we’d top the group!
  16. Great update as always syecosse. I was just reading on the Brighton forum that football stats people were looking across Europe to see who would be the closest profile to Caicedo, who they just sold for £115m. They were surprised to discover it was actually a Brighton player out on loan, Mark Leonard! Realise he’s a playing at a low level but given how good Brighton’s talent spotters are, it’s maybe an encouraging sign
  17. Absolute pish. He made a choice to play for us. You reckon this kid wouldn’t back himself to be good enough to play for England when he’s starting to get game time aged 21 for one of the top teams currently in England. That would be a pretty weird attitude. Do folk not realise that when Scots go and live in England, they bring their kids up to be proud of their Scottish roots? This runs deep. He asked for some time to think about it, as did McTominay. He chose us when he could have waited to see. It’s not like he’s 27 and realised that England are never coming calling. Deary me
  18. Hardly arbitrary concerns. There are far more examples of players who are rusty because they’ve not been playing football. Tierney has been brilliant for Scotland but he racked up plenty of minutes for Arsenal in Europe, the cups and even the league, even though he wasn’t first choice. Indications were that he was now completely out the picture at Arsenal. Great news he seems to be getting a move to a Spanish Champions League team.
  19. Understand why that would frustrate you. The boy has all he needs to be world class. Under the right manager, that’s fixable and from what I’ve seen so far, he does seem willing to learn
  20. I replied to the wrong comment here! Meant to reply to Diamond Scot!
  21. It’s an interesting observation and I’m not disagreeing with you but a couple of thoughts. De Zerbi was piling on the praise for Gilmour yesterday and claims he is a transformed player compared to last year. Also a good comparison may be Jorginho who I don’t really recall sprinting back tracking runners. He was more about reading the game and making interceptions. That’s more of how I imagine Gilmour to develop. His defensive stats yesterday were quite solid yesterday
