TA Sunshine Appeal
We can now announce the donation for The Gibraltar match in October. We will be donating £5,000 to the Rainbow Ward of the Gibraltar St. Bernards Hospital. The rainbow ward is the department that cares for children from 0-16 years of age, ranging from referrals from local GP's to chronic illness. Rainbow ward is located in Block 1 on the fourth floor St. Bernard’s Hospital and is a 21-bedded unit offering inpatient and outpatient family centred care to children aged 0-16. The unit provides 24 hour care for all children with a variety of conditions and work closely with specialist units in UK and Spain. All inpatients are nursed by highly skilled and qualified paediatric nurses and three paediatricians working on a rotational basis. We offer Paediatric medical care as well as emergency and elective surgical and orthopaedic care. We provide up to date evidence based care and health promotion advice and support on all child health and wellbeing issues such as breastfeeding, and looking after and unwell child. We hold bi-weekly clinics for children needing care that are referred to us from the GP or A&E and on-going care and support to children with many different chronic conditions such as asthma, eczema and diabetes. We have a number of children with complex medical, surgical and psychological needs and also provide a service for rarer cases of haematological, endocrine, oncology and palliative children. We also hold clinic with visiting consultants for neurology, geneticist, and psychiatrist; we will soon have a Tourette’s specialist visiting too. 2014 saw the units admission rate rise with a total of 706 children pass through the department. We work closely with the community and have a yearly Christmas party for the children with chronic condition or those that spend a long time with us throughout the year to celebrate their achievements. We also may have other smaller parties during the year for those children and families that have endured a difficult journey of which we have played a close part in. I think we will all agree, another very worthy contribution from the Tartan Sunshine appeal and all Scotland Supporters !!!! We are hoping to visit the ward on Saturday 10th October, full details of the visit will be posted once confirmed
