  1. I emailed the Highlander - Got the nice response below, Like the idea of the discounted beer ! Could you help me guess numbers to let the guy know how many of us there are likely to be ? (10, 20 40 60 ???) I'm not sure what he means by reserving the pub for us - maybe he means a section but I don't think he needs to do anything like that !!!:(I may have over egged possible numbers to ensure they showed the game !). Me and my two pals will be there anyway. "Hi John My name is James. I'm a the manager of the Highlander in Vienna. I am currently in Scotland enjoying your beautiful country. If you guys are considering the Highlander to watch the Lithuania game it will be available on 5 screens. On top of that I will put on an offer for discounted beer to help lubricating the cheering and singing. Let me know asap if you want me to reserve the pub for you. We will be delighted to welcome you and your friends. Slainte James=" He wrote back later "Ps Who recommended the Highlander. I may know the person or have met them. James"
  2. Malky24 and all - do you have an address for the highlander or rough location. Me and my two pals will be there. Pals get in to Vienna airport at 10.40 saturday morning off edinburgh easy flight. I get in 11.10 off stansted so meeting for a pint in the Johann's Biereck pub in the airport - cracking pub with smoking allowed if anyone areiving then. If anyones got any drinking venue in middle of Vienna in mind for Saturday afternoon before going to highlander let us know. Cannae wait !
  3. Got me and my two pals in to section 13. Thanks to all of you for the tip off and help especially Saintsparky and Zander. And also our slovakian barmaid in village pub ! How do we donate lithuanian tickets ? See yous in slovakia or austria or hungary ! Cannae wait !
  4. This place is really pretty (on the Danube), nice places to see, big town square, interesting architecture, friendly, good bars and places to eat. But most importantly the BEER IS REALLY CHEAP ! (last year it was 80p a pint so say a £ now). It is 1 hr by train from Vienna and 1 hr by road from Bratislava. I stumbled across it last year breaking a journey to Budapest. It was fantastic. The locals were really friendly. If you want lots of English speaking people and lots of tourists forget here ! The students (there is a college on tourism near) want to practice their English so loved talking to Scots. Cant recommend it enough. My pals and I meet in Vienna Saturday morning. Staying over Saturday night (one night in Vienna is more than enough for me) and taking the 11.42 train Sunday morning Vienna to Gyor (time for hangover to subside). Then cheap taxi / mini bus to Bratislava Sunday evening. Anyone at a loose end on Sunday and fancies a small detour on way to Bratislava and "tick off" Hungary more than welcome to join us. If anyone interested let me know and will vary transport numbers on Sunday evening but no need for any "commitment" as it is so cheap.
  5. Im lucky enough to have lived through some of the legends that maybe were never the best players in the world but captured what we wanted as fans - pure desire to play for the jersey and give 110%. Snoddy has that. Were we not above Germany in the euros before he got injured ?
  6. We've stayed at the Radisson a few times. Usually they are really expensive but in Bratislava it is cheaper than they normally are (I appreciate still expensive budgetwise). If you can afford it I really recommend it. You couldnt get more central so no travel hassle. Quality. And brekky is brilliant (i think until 11 am).
  7. Wubbs and all- I was going to post a thread on Gyor so brilliant youve been and liked it ! I went there last year and loved it. Stunning and on the Danube ! I had a cracking time - met some students (the uni there does tourism so they want to practice their english) who gave me a tour and got me totally plastered. There are a few really good pubs (I was paying 80p a pint for budvar) and some stuff tucked away. English wasnt so widely spoken which made it fun. Train takes an hour there and we'll go by road (organising cheap taxi / mini bus) from there to Bratislava Sunday evening (about an hour). The students are meeting us so should be a laugh. Anyone wanting to join us really welcome !!! We get the 11.43 from Vienna (thinking head may feel a bit better by then). Will be fun to see the Gyor people's reaction to the kilt. Personally Vienna is ok for a few hours and architecture stunning but I didnt warm to it.
  8. Cheers for the recommends ! Will try the 1516. We're in Vienna overnight - if anyone hears of a sports bar or the like likely to show the Scotland game do us a favour and post it - we forgot about that game when we booked the flights.
  9. We're meeting at around 11 Saturday Morning at Vienna airport (pals flying from Ed me from Stansted) if anyone likely to be there about then (pals need to wait half an hour for me) - otherwise suggestions for drinking / meeting up with folk in Vienna appreciated as I can never find a good boozer there. We are only in Vienna the one night as going to Bratislava via a town in Hungary (Gyor) on the Sunday, PS - there is strangely a good boozer in Vienna airport which still allows smoking
  10. Lyonhibs - I meet my two pals at Vienna airport about 11 on the Saturday morning. They fly from ed and arrive about 40 minutea before me coming from stansted. We stay in Vienna over on Saturday night so if you fancy joining us for a sesh be more than welcome. Im not Vienna's biggest fan but know the good areas. Finding a bar that shows the Lithuania game will be the trick !!!
  11. Cardiff Thistle/others - I wont get there until 5.45 ish.. I'm taking the kilt but no wearing it travelling. I'll have Scotland top on and regulation jeans. Not sure the last time you were at Stansted but it was all done up last year - I cannae remember if they moved the Weatherspoons but I'll look out for you as there's bound to be one there. I'm 45 minutes awa from the airport and no 5 hours ! - I hope you've got plenty of tinnies in for your train journey ! I'm having a beer or two before I leave so I wont be playing catch up ! I have a taxi booked to the centre (see different thread re transfers) if you want to cadge a free lift at the other side. Name's Johnny - typo on user name as signed up to the board after a few bevvies - eejit that I am.!
  12. I get in to Prague airport at 22.25 from Stansted on Tuesday off the RyanAir Stansted flight. I have a taxi booked through Macy37's recommendation (see earlier in this thread) - so far great service. I am going (first time) as a lone soldier this trip as pals cant make it so if anyone wants an almost free transfer (I think the firm will charge a few euros per additional passenger) and the time fits let me know and first three can cadge a ride. Cheers.

      How much for 10 ?

  14. Cardiff Thistle, I have been having a dilemma as to whether to go that night or the next morning as it's my lad's 14th birthday on the 22nd. However I think bribery has won out!!! Will confirm when booked (tonight or tomorrow). We live 40 minutes from Stansted so works well. I travel a bit with the TA but this is my first lone footsoldier trip as pals cant get off work so good to meet up for beer. Are you travelling kilted ? Cheers,
  15. Lads. We arrive stupid o'clock (about 3.20 am) on thursday morning having flown from istanbul. As we dont have an hotel booked until 2pm check in do the forward contingent know a bar that will still be open at that time ?
  16. Any one flying oot of heathrow wednesday afternoon to Istanbul ? Catching pals at Attaturk but think I may be solo in kilt ?
  17. Is anyone flying from Heathrow on Wednesday pm to Istanbul ? I work in London so meeting up with pals in Attaturk late wednesday for daft midnight flight to Tblisi. Looks like I will be solo wearing kilt at heathrow ?
  18. First visit here and firat post after reading the banter ! Isn't it great that after so long we've a problem of which quality players to pick ! Think the last few squad suggestions will be close. But wee gord will be thinking of two teams already. One vs Georgia and then different vs Germany. Noticed in all these pages no one has mentioned one squad player in a good or bad way. James McArthur. As someone here said WGS usually throws in a wild card and he might play in one of the games.
