  1. I think it was a sensible move to be based in Malta before these friendlies, hopefully however it's not a complete waste of time and we'll beat them come September. Last nights performance was disappointing, I wasn't expecting to win, but 1 shot off target and 1 corner isn't good enough. Resigned myself to viewing these two matches as defensive training, keeping shape when the opposition has the ball etc. After all it is the one place on the pitch where we need to most work and are weakest so I suppose it's not a bad thing.
  2. Watching us pass it around the back terrifies me. Retained the ball well at times however have created next to nothing! Fantastic double save from Marshall however, we are truly spoilt with our selection of keepers!
  3. http://bbc.in/1VdozHG Stephan Kingsley (Swansea, defender), Jack Hamilton (Hearts, GK), Scott Fox (Ross County, GK), Craig Bryson (Derby, midfield) drafted in due to injuries to Scott Bain and Alan McGregor. Other players drafted in because of Championship play-off final.
  4. In my opinion the draw against Ireland wasn't a bad result but it wasn't a good one either. It still left the door open for them but a win against Georgia away should have been enough to eliminate Ireland from the conversation of qualification. Ultimately in my opinion we scored a lucky deflected goal and after that didn't really create much chances. Looking back obviously it wasn't a good result but at the time it didn't feel like a disaster.
  5. Yeah, I also agree with your point, we seriously seem to struggle against teams who sit deep pack their defence! Even though they're the lowest seeded team in the group, they're no Gibraltar and will be tough to break down. Praying it's not another Georgia away performance / result, if we play the way we did against Germany in the first game of the last campaign we should be fine, however we'll be expected to attack more.
  6. No complains about the team, looks fine to me. Only thing I'd point out is not sure about changing the formation too much. Wouldn't want to take the risk of the players not being able to adapt to it quick enough and having to swap things around during the game leaving us not enough time to score, considering they're fairly solid at the back. Spent the week preparing a different system for Gibraltar at home to only go and concede and get a bit of a fright! However understand you're logic of wanting to have a more attacking line up, maybe it's time we were braver away from home!
  7. I've been going to Scotland games for a number of years now and am still relatively 'young' however have never become a member of the SSC. I don't think I would ever go to away games as none of my pals are really that interested however I go to almost every home game accompanied by a few friends (including Denmark the other night). So could someone please explain to me the perks of being part of the SSC for home games? I know obviously that you get access to tickets earlier, however some games will have a bigger demand than others, for example, the Germany and Poland games during the last campaign. How many tickets could I purchase for those 'big' games being a SSC member before they went on public sale compared to 'smaller' games like Gibraltar? Sorry for acting stupid, have had a look around and can't seem to find the information anywhere. Thanks!
  8. Great result, happy with that! What a difference Snodgrass makes! Bring on Hampden on Tuesday, Denmark beat Iceland tonight so should be interesting!
  9. Steven Fletcher will not travel with the squad to Czech Republic due to illness. Suppose this is a good thing, meaning another striker will get an opportunity to prove themselves.
  10. Steven Naismith & Steven Whittaker have withdrawn from the squad due to injuries, Ross McCormack & Paul Caddis have been called up to the Czech Republic squad!
  11. Just listened to the BBC Sportsound podcast, with the pundits being equally as puzzled as the fans are about players being left out such as Rhodes and McCormack. If Strachan is using the excuse of "We know what they can do" then why call up Steven Fletcher? He starts every game, surely it's time to let another striker start? If you're going to do that, now is the best time, before the campaign starts, in friendlies. No point in throwing a striker on in a game with 10 minutes to go, they've no time to make an impact. If Griffiths doesn't start against Denmark then I don't think he ever will!
  12. Have had to google some players, which I suppose is not a bad thing, shows Strachan is really looking for talent. Oliver Burke is an interesting one, Wikipedia says he's English and 18 years old. Made a couple of appearances for Scotland U19's and is a winger. It is good that Strachan is trying to integrate these young players early or even giving them an opportunity to show what they can do. Puzzled however to see Rhodes, Shinnie and McCormack haven't been called up, yet a player like James Forrest has been? Must be handing Strachan a brown envelope. Overall however, happy to see that there are some new, young players being given a chance, that's what friendlies should be used for! On a side note, would love to see Strachan experiment with 2 upfront (Griffiths and Fletcher) in the Denmark game, just to see how it works out, however will it happen, probably not.
  13. Happy with the prices, hopefully this campaign is a new start for the SFA! Will be there!
  14. For the season ticket, you pick the stand you want to be in but are you then just allocated a seat at random? If so might dodge it as if you're given a seat with a shite view then that's you for the whole campaign
  15. Just looking at Jordan Rhodes record at the moment and it's unbelievable! 116 goals in 316 games! Crazy to think he's 2nd choice striker for Scotland behind Fletcher who, at the moment really isn't impressing. Really hope he fires some in for Middlesbrough and is given a proper chance in these upcoming friendlies.
  16. Happy for Jordan Rhodes tonight, hopefully he can now kick on at Middlesbrough and help get them promoted! Would be brilliant to see him competing in the Premier League. Good move for Steven Fletcher too, should get more game time as Marseille.
  17. Due to being at uni and having a lot of spare time I probably will be able to go to every home game so will buy the season ticket, even though I live in Aberdeen so the journey is a bit of a treck! Would I be correct in saying that the majority of people would recommend the West Stand? For it having the best atmosphere etc?
  18. Would love some of these players to get a call up to the squad to see what they offer. However do you bring in 5/6 new faces, disrupting the 'harmony' of the group of players we have now? After all doesn't Strachan like to create a 'club like atmosphere' amongst the squad?
  19. Suppose it can only be a positive thing that other teams are after us for a friendly? Or is it just because the teams after us have either ROI, Northern Ireland, Wales or England in their group and think we have a similar playing style?
  20. U21 have matches on the same day against France U21 and Northern Ireland U21 in European Championship Qualifiers so I'm sure that will be taken into consideration when picking the squads. Obviously those games are more important compared to the friendlies.
  21. Would agree with that, not a Celtic fan myself but he seemed to get more of a game last season compared to this season. Played well in Europe and was not scared to run at players with the ball. Seems to have fallen out of favour of recent times though. The potential is certainly there, did he have an injury or something?
  22. So now the SFA have confirmed the 2 friendlies in March, Czech Republic away (24th) and Denmark at home (29th), which I would you like to see included in the squad and who do you think should be given game time? Personally I'd like to see Jordan Rhodes and Chris Martin given more of an opportunity to prove themselves useful upfront. Would love to see Robert Snodgrass introduced back into the squad too, was a brilliant addition to the squad when fit and playing. Dare I say Kieran Tierney?? Looked comfortable for Celtic in defence when playing on the European Stage and has featured in Scotland's U18/19's. Ryan Guald also another youngster we could bring in for experience? However have no idea how he's getting on over at Sporting Lisbon / how much game time he's getting.
  23. That would be music to the ears for all SSC members but let's not kid ourselves!!
