  1. We don't need to worry about the Euros clashing with Wimbledon now...
  2. We need to improve defensively. The Irish never lost more than one goal a game apart from the final match in Warsaw when it didn't really matter. Craig Brown was saying the other day when we qualified for Euro 96 and France 98 we only lost 3 goals in the whole group both times!
  3. As are England, Wales and N.Ireland when it comes to fitba...
  4. Went to a McCartney concert when I worked in Budapest. We were doing a bit of sightseeing beforehand and had our primative digital camera with us, all bags searched on the way in, cameras had to be removed, bagged and taken back to the ticket office to be watched for a fee if you wanted to see the gig and your camera again. Hard to believe it's just over a decade ago...
  5. I'll give Fermer this, that guy's words were fantastic... On Friday night you stole away the life of an exceptional being, the love of my life, the mother of my son, but you will not have my hatred. I do not know who you are and I dont want to know, you are dead souls. If the God for whom you kill so blindly made us in His image, each bullet in my wifes body would have been a wound in His heart. Therefore I will not give you the gift of hating you. You have obviously sought it but responding to hatred with anger would be to give in to the same ignorance that that has made you what you are. You want me to be afraid, to cast a mistrustful eye on my fellow citizens, to sacrifice my freedom for security. Lost. Same player, same game. I saw her this morning. Finally, after nights and days of waiting. She was just as beautiful as she was when she left on Friday evening, as beautiful as when I fell madly in love with her more than 12 years ago. Of course I'm devasted with grief, I will give you that tiny victory, but this will be a short-term grief. I know that she will join us every day and that we will find each other again in a paradise of free souls which you will never have access to. We are only two, my son and I, but we are more powerful than all the world's armies. In any case, I have no more time to waste on you, I need to get back to Melvil who is waking up from his afternoon nap. Hes just 17 months old; hell eat his snack like every day, and then were going to play like we do every day; and every day of his life this little boy will insult you with his happiness and freedom. Because you dont have his hatred either. Antoine Leiris
  6. Worse still I had a look at other confederations' tournaments and looking at countries who have been at the World Cup before, Israel are now actually the only country in the world who have had to wait longer to re-qualify for any tournament than Scotland!
  7. Hajra Magyarok! Hungarian fitba's been on its knees pretty much since Glasnost. Great to see the famous old country back at a finals.
  8. Only John and Paul play on it so it's really a half Beatles record...
  9. RIP Alf, that was a long time to be a widower. (Mind you Else was nearly 20 years older than him!)
  10. Couldn't really give a monkey's who qualifies other than Scotland, although I'd be delighted if Hungary make it after such a long absence from finals...
  11. I couldn't really see that, although I was quite far back a that gig. After the brilliant Chrome Dreams tour, I was a bit disappointed with the Horse that night. The OTT feedback nonsense didn't help, but it just seemed the band weren't as intense as in the past. Maybe Neil agreed, I notice he's been touring America with a younger band this year...
  12. France have their own nukes too. Fat lot of use.
  13. Parts of the film he made in Glasgow turned up in the Year of the Horse movie from the mid-90s. Regarding the bird keyboard it's pretty much been a fixture on his electric tours since the 70s, to be called into action for Like A Hurricane. I mind Poncho playing at the SECC on the Broken Arrow tour, and he had it with him at the Playhouse a few years back but it was unused. Someone must've hit the wrong switch when the band were taking a bow at the end because the bird swooped down to the stage and we thought we were being treated to Hurricane, but it was swiftly retracted back to the rafters I love all the mad gear he carts about with him, he's like some nutty professor. At that Playhouse gig he had an amp on a remote controlled skateboard that would wheech onto the stage when more power was required
  14. The Germans started it according to Sean on the telly earlier...
