Series Worth Watching
Fairbairn replied to village idiot's topic in Anything Goes - Other topics not covered elsewhere
Finished this tonight and it’s excellent, all the better considering it’s a true story. The performance from Paul Walter Hauser is unbelievable and Ray Liotta isn’t far behind in one of his last roles. -
League Cup 23-24
Fairbairn replied to Big Ramy 1314's topic in Football related - Discussion of non TA football
Since their return to the Premier League in 16/17 Rangers have had more penalties awarded against them in cup games than any other Premier League team. Stats, eh?! -
Season 23/24
Fairbairn replied to vanderark14's topic in Football related - Discussion of non TA football
Think Rogers has already said the squad is too big and more likely to be more outs than ins in January. Tbh, even though we've improved fractionally under Clement I don't see Celtic struggling to keep us at arms length with their current squad and doubt we'll be able to improve our squad significantly in January. -

How can that 4th Rangers goal possibly stand, surely it has to be a drop ball? The standard of our referees really is horrendous. -
Series Worth Watching

Started watching Black Bird last night. Taron Egerton (pretty much always good in whatever he's in) plays a drug dealer sent to prison who is then offered release if he can get another prisoner to admit to murders they are trying to solve. Pretty good supporting cast with Greg Kinnear and Paul Walter Houser in key roles. Only watched one episode last night but enjoyed it and will be back in for more tonight. I might have to go for something a bit more light hearted next though as prior to this we watched The Longest Shadow (Yorkshire Ripper), The Reckoning (Jimmy Savile) and Maxine (Carr) back to back! It's a wonder I've not been having nightmares! -
Gigs 2020

I've seen them every Shedcember for about the last 12 years or so. Didn't even realise they were playing last night!! 🙄 -
The Referree / Var thread..
Fairbairn replied to Big Ramy 1314's topic in Football related - Discussion of non TA football
Not sure what Jonny Hayes thought he was doing there. Can only see this ending one way unfortunately. -
You're right, we've never played them at a major tournament. Other than Euro 96. Oh, and Euro 2020(1).

They mentioned the turnout being down on the bulletin I seen this morning. -
Retirement......
Fairbairn replied to Big Ramy 1314's topic in Anything Goes - Other topics not covered elsewhere
I'm aiming for 60 which is 14 years away. Not sure my pension will allow me to retire then however I've got a flat that I rent out so plan is to sell that once I hit 60 and effectively use that as a bridge till my pension is worth cashing in! -
Scotland Squad - Spain and France discussion
Fairbairn replied to romanticscot's topic in TA specific
Maybe, maybe not but you’re talking as if you know that will already happen. In the here and now I can only respect a player holding out for what he classes as his country if that is indeed what he’s doing. If he decides at a later date he wants to use us as a back then that’s the time to criticise him and question his decisions but not when he’s doing exactly what we’d want any young Scottish player to do. Bold not intentional, hit it on my phone and can’t get it off! 🤦🏻♂️ -
Scotland Squad - Spain and France discussion
Fairbairn replied to romanticscot's topic in TA specific
Maybe he only wants to play international football for what he classes as his country? All hypothetical but if I'd been picked for the Scotland U21s and Northern Ireland wanted to give me a full cap (Grandad) I'd have said no. We'd be applauding young Scottish players for doing similar to what Hackney is doing rather than just chasing a cap for the sake of international football for a country he possibly feels no affiliation to. -
With a clearer head the day after, IF Hendry was offside then he was clearly interfering with play. He had is hands on the keeper, however lightly, so it's impossible to say he wasn't in the keepers eye line. Hendry could have been standing on the halfway line and the keeper still wouldn't have save it but unfortunately that's irrelevant when it comes to the rules. All that being said I've yet to see anything conclusive that convinces me that he was offside and that that's what the goal was originally disallowed for.

Scotland Squad - Spain and France discussion
Fairbairn replied to romanticscot's topic in TA specific
Maybe he classes himself as English? -
If my sums are correct, if Norway and Spain draw on Sunday and we win our last 2 games, we top the group. That could be massive as it would likely have us in Pot 1 for the Euros avoiding the likes of France, England, Germany, Belgium and Portugal. As it stands Pot 2 would likely have teams like Albania, Turkey, Austria and Slovenia so it's a massive difference. Spain win on Sunday and we can pretty much forget topping the group and would be Pot 2 and possibly 3 (although I'd have bitten your hand off for either at the start of the campaign!).
-
Going by the way McGinn and Clarke responded to questions about him it doesn't sound overly positive.
-
Was just about to post similar. The ref won't necessarily go to the monitor to determine if it's offside but will to determine if a player is interfering or not. So in that case fair enough however....if that is the case it must be one of the quickest VAR offside calls since it was introduced.
-
So they're now saying the goal was disallowed due to offside. I might be wrong but has a referee ever been sent to the monitor for an offside before? Surely VAR just draw the lines and tell him if it's offside or not? If he's went to the monitor it's because they've told him to review a foul and it now seems they're backtracking and trying to shoehorn in the offside excuse.
-
No, we can win it if we end with a better goal difference than Spain. Unlikely as we are +11 and they are +15 now but if we rattle the in against Georgia and Norway and they squeak 1-0s who knows!!

Use of the term "Hun"
Fairbairn replied to Diamond Scot's topic in Football related - Discussion of non TA football
I thought I’d read it was Wolverhampton it originated in but might be mixing that up with the Villa/Brum story above. -

I’ve heard the “marauding Huns” thing in relation to hooliganism as well but that Alsatian story sounds incredibly unlikely! -
Managers Thread....

Hopefully not. I think he’s only really been mentioned as a contender in the Scottish press, I don’t think there’s any substance to it. -

The biggest of no’s from me. Glad to see Lampard seems to be out of the running. Looks to be down to Muscat, Knutsen and Clement. Of those 3 I’d lean towards Clement I think. Interesting to see that we apparently approached Lopetegui so at least we’re thinking a bit outside the box. -

I’d say those songs or flags are linked to their religious and/or political beliefs.
