  1. It's changed a lot from what my mates that have lived here for years tell me. A lot more nightlife in the city now, lots of pubs and restaurants. Fremantle is also jumping at the weekends.
  2. Lived in Newcastle for a year, Copenhagen for five years, Sydney for seven months and now been in Perth, WA for the last two and a bit years. The best decision I ever made was moving abroad, off course I miss some things about Scotland but not that much that I would move back. Doubt I will ever leave Australia now, Perth is almost like paradise for me.
  3. 60 minutes has lost a great deal of credibility lately, sensationalised and biased, one sided accounts aimed at over hyping stories. They ran a story a few weeks ago on a rugby player who broke his neck and ended up making him look bitter and twisted. Should be worth a watch though.
  4. Pinot Noir for everyday consumption and Aussie Shiraz or Cab Sav for something nicer. Looking forward to a company funded jolly up the Swan Valley today
  5. I'v been to see Perth Glory a few times. The quality of football here is fairly average and I prefer to watch the Aussie Rules now anyway but I do enjoy going along with a few mates, sitting in a nice stadium in good weather having a laugh with drinks as you watch. Before I moved to Australia I lived in Copenhagen and I regularly went to watch BK Frem, the second oldest team outside of the UK. They had serious money problems around 15 years back and were relegated to the equivalent of the juniors, they have been slowly working up through the leagues since. Great atmospheres at their games with flags, drums , flares and full strength beer.
  6. I'm all for workers standing up for the rights, I have been a member of my Union since I was a student, everyone should be rewarded according to their skills, position and effort but I am wary of some unions so called "concern" for workers. Over the last few years of working in management positions I have seen some Unions brainwash their members into punishing their employers purely for the benefit of the Union officials themselves. Working in health and safety, I am also saddened to see that non existent safety concerns are often used as a tool to attack companies.
  7. Enjoy it, it will be back down to mid to late teens next week and will be like that for another 12 months!
  8. Off course, maybe that's why I enjoyed it!
  9. Went to my first rugby league game on Saturday, South Sydney Rabbitoes v Warriers, great atmosphere and loved the fast paced game.
  10. Went to Rabbitoes V Warriers today in Perth, my first ever League game and I loved it! Loved the quick passages of play and all the music throughout the game, great!
  11. I wouldn't want it in Australia, it would get in the way of my Aussie Rules season like the stupid Cricket Workd Cup has done!
  12. There's also a TV series that's just come out called Gallipoli that's well worth downloading
  13. Don't knock it till you try it! Another good one to move on to is Oban, perfectly balanced between crispy Highland/Speyside and peaty west coast whisky. A very easy dram to drink.
  14. Glenlivit 12 year old is the best price to quality whisky and a good one to start off on. Drink it with a dingle ice cube.
  15. Where pilots are invaluable is when dealing with emergencies and contingency planning. Look at the Jet Blue incident from a few years back where the the forward landing gear was locked 90 degrees out of the normal, technology in that event failed but but the skill of the pilot averted disaster.
  16. I find this hard to believe A) I don't think such info could so quickly be ascertained from the CVR that the airline and authorities would be so bold as to release such emotive info
  17. Goes to show though, you book a flight with one firm but end up flying with a different company.
  18. He grew up in Fremantle, there is a statue of him in the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour and he is buried in Fremantle Cemetary. The road (Canning Highway) from Fremantle to the Raffles Hotel in Applecross where he went to play and watch music is supposedly the road the Highway to Hell was written for.
  19. I'm going to a family wedding in Cape Town in a few weeks and I will be wearing Kilt brogues, black hose with flashes and skean dhu, MacGregor kilt (only because I like the tartan) kilt pin, belt and black dress shirt. For a formal event in cooler climates I would add in the waistcoat, dress jacket and cravat on top.
  20. Not for me as I have a burd but I hear that Scoobydoo regularly scores in there
  21. I like the Captain Cook cruise from Barrack Street jetty down to Fremantle, takes about 45 mins and very scenic. Fremantle is a great wee town to walk around and you need to pay a visit to Little Creatures. The Fringe Festival is on at the moment so lots of shows and street performers, we are going to see a Scottish commedian called Bruce Fumey on Saturday night but I think he is also doing other shows as part of the festival. If you had time then Margaret River is a great wine region, we hired a driver there for a few hours to take us around the wineries. worth staying a night over down that way. If you don't want to go so far then the Swan Valley is another wine region about 30 minutes from the city. Good things to do are: - Walk round Kings Park - Rottnest Island - The Pinnacles and Cervantes - Segway tours from Barrack Street jetty - Watch Perth Glory at the NIB stadium - Fishing Boat Harbour and Cappuccino Strip in Fremantle - Watch the dolphins and penguins on a boat tour at Penguin Island - Beaches - Cottelsoe, South Beach and Scarborough are good, I prefer Rockingham beach as not so much surf Good Pubs: - Lucky Shag - Rosie O' Grady's - Brass Monkey - The Aviary - The Moon and Sixpence - Flying Scotsman - Feral Brewery in the Swan Valley - Little Creatures Good eating places: - C Restuarant - revolving roof top restaurant with great views of the city - Print Room
  22. Finished bottom of their Asian Cup group which is on at the moment. Had Iran, UAE and Bahrain in their Group, lost every game.
  23. I missed it by a few days! Enjoy, lovely place!!
