  1. I hope so. These debates about refugees fail to answer the fundamental question about 'why are there refugees in the first place?'. This Tory guy mentioned most are from Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq; I can't imagine the reason that question never gets asked is due to the UK having to own up to their foreign policy mistakes. πŸ™„
  2. I saw Millwall are the favourites to sign him. I'd be quite happy if he went there.
  3. I think removing the results against the fourth-placed team is the only way of doing it, as you could argue those teams wouldn't have actually beaten Russia 3-0 home and away - so they'd be getting an unfair advantage (beyond the advantage of removing the team most likely to win the group). I highly doubt Russia will be involved in Euro 2024 in any capacity, so we won't have to worry about getting them as our Pot 4 opponents.
  4. Even they were only prolific for relatively short periods for us. Dalglish was only prolific for a period of about four years: between 1974 and 1977, he scored 16 in 37 (0.43 goals per game) compared to 11 in 55 (0.20 goals per game) for his career outside that, which seems fairly ordinary for our strikers. While Dennis Law scored over half his goals for us in a two year period between 1962 and 1963 - scoring 16 in 10 (1.60 goals per game); he was 14 in 45 otherwise (0.31 goals per game) - still a decent return mind. I wonder how much of it is down to the chances created for our strikers, as opposed to the lack of ability of the strikers themselves. We'll never know for certain what sort of shots-to-goals rate (or especially xG) Law and Dalglish had, but I reckon it probably didn't change much over their Scotland careers despite the reduction in goals.
  5. There will always be a few outliers due to promotions and relegations and the natural cycle of international squads.
  6. England's worst home defeat since lost 5-1 to us in 1928. 🀣 England fans singing "you don't know what you're doing" to the manager who's got them to a World Cup semi and a Euro final in the last four years. πŸ˜‚
  7. They seem very happy to soak up pressure and look for chances on the counter attack. We're not particularly good at either.
  8. I think the true is a lot more different than you may be giving credit for. Most wing backs get in their team due to their athletic and crossing ability, with their defensive attributes coming second - the reverse is true for traditional full backs. If anything, modern wing-backs are more akin to wide midfielders in terms of responsibilities from the early 00s than full backs from the same time. That's before taking into account the impact of the differing number of centre backs on your positioning and freedom to attack.
  9. No, I've had a spreadsheet from the last few games - which I'll no doubt forget about come September. I've found it useful for club football to have a spreadsheet that I can update faster than most stats sites, so I've started to port it over to the national team (I should really make it a database). It's quite similar to a UEFA coefficient spreadsheet I maintain, I largely do it so I can see 'live' effects of potential outcomes; merely a personal interest thing where the skills learned by improving it could be useful in other areas.
  10. He looked completely different after his goal, much like McGinn. Really happy for the both of them tonight.
  11. Okay, that figures. I put it down as Adams instead of Christie. There's no problem there then. πŸ˜… Thank you.
  12. Was it not him who got booked in Dublin? I may have accidently put it down as him rather than someone else.
  13. A negative which stands out is ChΓ© Adams being suspended for the Ukraine game, which means we'll likely have to play one of Dykes, Nisbet, Brown or Stewart unless someone else turns up. I think Brown is likely the most similar to Adams, so would be my favourite to start.
  14. Mystic Meg. Basically deja vu.
  15. Ferguson, Turnbull and Ralston on for Gilmour, McGinn and Patterson. Good chance for some low pressure game time.
  16. My fear would be Ireland getting a bit of momentum. The Nations League, like other UEFA competitions, uses head-to-head record over goal difference, so if we finish level on points with Ireland the only way we can finish above them is through beating them 3-0, or by four, in Glasgow (which is very unlikely to happen).
  17. Depends on what we think's still possible in this group. If our sole aim is to finish above Ireland, then a Ukraine win. If we're still trying to win the group, probably a draw.
  18. 4-1 Adams! Let's get a hatful lads!
  19. Just realised he was the same player who got sent off in their 9-0 loss in Norway. 🀣 Perhaps he's a double agent.
  20. I think so. Seems a bit of a liability for them.
  21. Fantastic goal. Hopefully we can go on and get an early goal in the second half and kill this off.
  22. Ultra quick double yellow - this could be important.
  23. The end of season excuse is complete hogwash - sure fatigue and injuries can start to catch up, but players used to playing a large number of games each season tend to be a lot fitter than those who don't (shock). Sure you can play too many matches over a week long period, but I feel professional footballers could play twice a week without being too tired to play (with the correct training regime).
  24. Club and international management is very different. With club management: you've got the ability to replace the entire squad (finances dependent), you have more time with the players throughout the year and games are usually much closer together. Ideally for an international manager, you need someone who can get the best out of players (through motivation, tactics, etc.), can identify potential players and can generate a club atmosphere.
