  1. it has cooled down to about 32-34 here... you know that if the weather means that much to you, you can move abroad right?
  2. Montpellier for me. Was here when they won the league in...2012? Then saw them play 2 champions league matches (Arsenal and Schalke), in that will surely be their first and last champions league campaign. Gone downhill since then due to selling the entire team, but finished 7th or 8th last season and am looking forward to the new season already. Not spectacular, but a fairly honest hardworking team....a bit like France's version of stoke but with (very) slightly better football
  3. supposed to get up to the 40s near where I am (South of France). It is quite a refreshing 31 just now. Doubt ill survive the week
  4. All of the UK is equally bad in language learning I think. But instead of complaining about not speaking portugese, buy a book, or use one of the many websites that have fun ways to learn a language. No matter what some people say, you are never too old to learn a language and if you treat it like a bit of fun you will be surprised at how much you learn in a short space of time, Also you have to genuinely want to learn it. If you don't, then you wont learn anything.
  5. Scotland 1 - 0 Holland. McFadden scored in the playoffs for..... euro 2004 I think?? Either way I should have just called it quits after a first game like that, and never come back
  6. im interested, why do the locals not like it? As far as i can see, it is a very cool (if expensive and hipster-attracting) way of renovating an old tram factory. I have only been in Amsterdam for a year so i dont know what it was like before.
  7. i dont know if they have a name for the line its self, but the 18 yard box is called le surface in french. Not sure about the 6 yard box though...I dont think they actually have a name for it either. They just tend (in my experience) to say how many meters out the shot came from
  8. when did all TV pundits sign a contract to never admit to a british player diving?
  9. not a hotel tip but an eating tip. There is a new renovated tram factory called De Hallen in West (on tram line 17 i think), with a really cool food hall with about 15 different restaurants in one hall. It is a bit pricy but it is so damn cool that i dont mind spending the money. I'd recommend you go there at some point to eat
  10. Does anyone know what sort of variety of times is normal for a 10k run. What i mean is, if i run 10 times 10k, what sort of difference should i expect between my fastest and slowest times? I run reasonbly regularly and pb is 44:50, i assume that will be helpful to know, since the more you run, the more consistent your times should be (in my head). For some reason i cant word that question properly so i hope you get it!
  11. have you ever worked in a job where you ave to deal with the public? The public are a pain in the arse
  12. Yeah i have a rough idea of there i want to go but i really want to be able to take recommendations and go with the flow. I dont really want to come back wishing that i hadnt been so strict with some sort of itinerary and feeling like i missed a lot. Hence the railcard. like the suggestions and tips though!
  13. Actually i spent 3 years living there and only left last year. I am passing by there to see friends though. Excellent recommendation and the town must have grown by around 75k people since france 98. You should go back!
  14. see, i wouldnt i have lyon on my route if it wasnt for that fact that i want to move back to france and i figured id check it out to see if i would want to live there. I heard that it is cheaper to book things independently in advance but i dont have a concrete route and figured that the extra freedom with the pass would be worth the extra money. I'll check out the price difference though to see whether it is worth it or not.
  15. Hey gents, Im going interrailing round europe this spring and was wondering if you had any tips. I am going on my own with the idea to meet people in hostels on my way around. Also maybe to do some couchsurfing and only having a rough plan and improvising as i go along. The general route is Bilbao - south of france - Lyon - somewhere - slovenia, croatia, hungary, austria, czech rep. Has anyone been around this area in a train before/got any recommendations for hostels, good towns etc?
  16. now reports of a hostage being taken in jewellery store in Montpellier...no reports of shots being fired though. Hopefully it is just some chancer who messed up a robbery. Given the number of police around it must be the worst day possible to try to rob a jeweller store though
  17. basically the youngest suspect who handed himself into the police on the 1st night seems to have been in class in high school in a town 300km from paris until midday, ruling him out of the attack. I dont know the newspaper though so i dont know how reliable it is...
  18. Generally speaking we are open minded and intelligent people, so we dont need to be told that the overwhelming majority of muslims do not support these actions. However you have to acknowledge that there are a large number of less open-minded who would judge all muslims based on the actions of a few nutters. The news have a responsibility to show muslim groups denouncing the attacks to try to avoid actions of revenge from people who genuinely dont realise that not all muslims support them. They also have a certain amount of minutes of airtime to fill so i suppose they will find as many people with a "link" to the attacks as possible to fill their slot and get them a nice rep with the boss. Well, thats my opinion anyway.
  19. "Aim high and you will forever be disappointed" no...wait... that's not the idea.
  20. I judge all tv dramas based on The killing (Danish Version) and Breaking Bad.
  21. Im living in a lovely city (Amsterdam), in a nice enough apartment, with my beautiful girlfriend, and i am currently earning decent (for my lifestyle) money. Also i have a nice beer. Suppose it could all be worse
  22. People who ask for gluten free food despite not having an allergy. Groups of 10-20 people who dont phone ahead to reserve a table in a restaurant. Do these people really not see that an unexpected table of 20 can up the service for an hour or so? Oh, then of course they tip 1 euro on a 400 euro bill or something like that after we have bent over backwards to accomodate them
  23. Yeah i dont think i knew much of Montpellier before i started looking into places to live in France. I was definitely aware of its existence by the time i got on the train from Marseille
  24. Moving to a city i had never been to and had only vaguely heard of (Montpellier, France). Just booked flights and went 4 weeks later. Had a great 2 and a half years there and would love to go back to settle down
  25. I am signed up to do a half marathon in Den Haag in may ( first half), but cannot do any running just now because of an ingrown toenail. Highly annoying. Anyone know how long those normally take to clear up? I am itching to go out running (a sentence i never thought i would say 5 years ago)
