i'd have played one game. The problem we seem to have in this country is the media go into overdrive about friendlies being meaningless. Imo they're anything but.
They count towards rankings (I know this isn't a massive issue till the next world cup draw).
Our defence leaks awful goals. They would no doubt benefit from more game time together against quality strikers.
We can't break down stuffy teams that sit in like Georgia. A game or two against teams like that would provide the chance to different options.
We've players who this may be their last campaign who have held a position for years. Who's best to come in and replace? Do we just throw them in to the team in a qualifier.
Keeps the national team in peoples mind. The right game at home getting lots of young kids along to watch and hopefully enjoy breeds the next generation of Scotland fan.
From memory Spain, France, Germany, England, Belgium, Poland, Iceland, Czechs, Netherlands and Estonia all have 2 games. Italy possibly as well.
Tartanpar will be all over it :-)
France already have 2 games. Switzerland possibly do as well. I'm sure they've 1 sorted.
Amazing how many people say they don't want a meaningless game and the likes of the Dutch are so quick to make sure they've got games.
I think we need games against teams who are strong in attack as our defence clearly need some practice. Problem is we'll not pay the money required to bring decent teams to Scotland.
I thought we toiled to break down Gibraltar at hampden till he came on. He offered a little more directness and looked for a penetrating pass whereas the rest of the midfield passed it back and forth going nowhere. We could have done with him in Georgia.
A good option to have on the bench imo.
Scotland 1-1 Poland
Gibraltar 0-2 Scotland
Ireland 0-2 Germany
Poland 0-0 Ireland
In that scenario a draw in Georgia would have made the difference. Can't believe we could win head to heads v Poland and Ireland and still miss out.
How long was the JD deal for? Will we be stuck with this ridiculous situation for another 2 years?
And has anyone actually heard if there is a new top coming out in November?
I think that's what I have and like it. I started with a shorter practice chanter and much prefer the longer one as it's more like your pipe chanter.
As much as you'll be desperate to pick up tunes, it's so worth continual practice of all the embellishments etc. sadly I don't follow my own advice, which is probably why I'm not any better!
And I'd echo the post earlier about trying to find a local grade 4 band. That's what eventually got me from chanter to pipes. Many of them will offer tuition for perhaps a small subscription to the band. Great banter as well. Although last thing I needed was another circle of friends to drink with!
Was Naismith carrying a knock during the international window? Having played every previous game it seemed strange that he went off at HT in Georgia and not to feature v Germany.
We have a real problem breaking teams down. We even struggled v Gibraltar until Bannan came on. Nobody else even looked for a forward pass/penetrating pass. Is he fit/playing?
Agreed very frustrating. It's something we'd improved on over the last 2 years under Strachan, but have now reverted to previous. I suspect a lack of confidence being a major factor.
The lack of movement in both games was one of the main problems imo.
