  1. tbh ive only been watching you tube highlights of the games - my predictions on group results were all based on a teams historical reputation ; unlike current form - i hope this comes into play later as i put england down as wc cup winners in our household prediction - based on coming close in 86,90 then at last Euros .... France have impressed the most i think - but they did struggle recently in a 1-1 draw ; think lready qualified tho
  2. see US of A are 78% possession per bbc website at half time but 2-0 down to Netherlands ; kind of backs up a gripe i had on here a few weeks back
  3. fine, you want to play semantics ; the timing of your comment was out of line and you know it
  4. Was no malice like harold v france or rapid vienna keeper v tommy burns but def a straight red - albeit clumsy
  5. At least Rough would never got that far off his line to be sent off….
  6. we'd have lots of oohing and aahing though as we spurned glorious chances as our composure and finishing is generally lacking
  7. i feel it is less of a "shock" in the group stages ; where the minnows can still be eliminated as the big guns find their form for the business end of the tournament
  8. Pity about the screeching noises in background ; souness must of sold his soul to appear on that woke pish
  9. there was definitely an alcohol ban in Genoa - although both days we got round it ; first one was a corner shop guy selling warm beer from his cellar ; think was a a backstreet cafe for the Sweden game - tbh i found the Swedes pretty obnoxious on way to ground - i did think there would be trouble if we had lost ; been a lot of goading
  10. McKimmie was bang average ; prone to trying to go past the opposite winger but leaving the ball behind - porto away & torino away spring to mind - think he was as the start of the athlete with not much skill era Weir was played ; alongside half of dons team v n ireland away in 83 ; last home intl - i think SAF influenced Jock Stein - we were well beaten , and lot of those players Weir, Rougvie didnt shine - i need to google and check that Weir was playing that game - just going from memory check out Kennedy at World Cup 78 - not sure what was happening to defenders back then - Notts Forest Kenny Burns also looked dodgy
  11. I think the champs lge final a few years back ; was the first for new handball rule? liverpool v spurs penalty awarded early re new rules and converted killed a potentially good game imo even the 2nd i recall a defender more concerned about having his arms crossed behind his back than actually blocking the shot/cross ……
  12. not a rugger bugger ; but have enjoyed watching it - our game management has been p1sh for a while though has it not ? hogg getting a bit of online abuse i noted too all blacks seemed to defend v well when we trying to push over the line - but conversely we couldnt defend the same the dempsey yellow looked spot on ; in watching the replay
  13. Yeah same ; first tv memory was 74 ; and it always seemed magical - coverage / tinny commentary etc - summer nights ; small boys in the park - jumpers for goalposts etc isnt it bubble burst a bit in 90 on my only attendance ; as apart from us being crap was lots of 1-0s 1-1s - ireland advancing to quarters without actually winning a game ( during the 90 mins ) even in 94 i got up in middle of the night in Broome ; WA to open up the tv room in the backpackers - luckily was bland final as was trusted with keeping the noise down …. tbh my interest in the game is dwindling at such a rate of knots ; that even the final this year is not compulsive viewing
  14. just finished 'the playlist' about spotify - pretty decent / informative - weird ending i thought in time for starting new season of 'the crown'
  15. dont think the VAR snapshot taken - the angle when the ball is played is that helpful - this still from the link provided looks level ? - onside , but very close
  16. appreciate the feedback the link i posted after the fact shows the book review by Gavin Mortimer ; which is obviously at odds with the accepted narrative tbh i much prefer the legend that has grown over the years, lot of kids of my age were reared on Victor & Commando comics and old war films . so to have the bubble potentially burst (as it often is over the last few decades is not great) the 2 versions though do seem very much at odds with each other ; hence my questioning it
  17. https://the-past.com/review/books/david-stirling-the-phoney-major-the-life-times-and-truth-about-the-founder-of-the-sas/ tbh cant recall if ths book from podcast i mentioned - but first hit on search came up with this
  18. sounds a bit of debate over DS - that he created the legend himself in his book in the 70s ; his brother and more importantly Paddy Mayne were more deserving of credit , and Sterlings perfomance during early raids were not comparable - this was only from a history podcast about a book on this subject - unless the author was making it all up ? ive only seen the preview of the show - first thing that put me off , was the boy band haircuts and designer sunglasses - any photos ive seen of LRDG etc , all fully bearded and sunglasses usually sealed at side (sandstorms ?)
