  1. Liam Kelly is not good enough for international football. If he ends up our first choice, our goalkeeping situation is sorrier than I first thought!
  2. Our game gets derided and rightfully so at times, but Rangers and Celtic are, at the very least, still competitive against some big clubs in Europe. Rangers u19s also put Young Boys out of Europe yesterday.
  3. He’s a one trick pony unfortunately.......any half decent defender will suss him out very quickly.
  4. I actually don’t think they played well with the exception of the two centre halves......in fact they played well within themselves I would say. But I mean that in a positive way....they are capable of so much more yet still won comfortably. The bar is definitely being raised.
  5. King and Morrison were outstanding.....reading of the game, composure on the ball....they are top talents. King is still only 15.
  6. The u17s play Armenia tonight in a qualifier live on the BBC website I think. 6pm kick off. Chance to see the likes of Liam Morrison and Leon King.
  7. A good few of those players have another year at that age group as well.... Kai Kennedy, Leonard, Jamie Hamilton, Maxwell. Ciaran Dickson is a very talented player as well. Add to that the players that could still play in that age group as well... Cochrane, Anthony McDonald, Hickey and Gilmour namely. Very promising. I never caught the game. How did Archie Mair play?
  8. Feel we miss what Mickey Johnstone can provide, that bit of spark and creativity in the final third.
  9. Yeah am surprised we haven’t utilised Gilmour more,.a lot of our play seems to bypass the midfield. Maybe we will switch it up at home.
  10. Four point from two of the most difficult games in the group and sitting top... making ourselves difficult to beat which is a start.
  11. No matter what sport you follow, it’s just relentless let down after let down....even when we had that incredible comeback in the six nations, we still wilted in the final seconds to snatch a draw from the greatest win in our history. Fair play to Japan, great to watch, really going places as a rugby nation, good luck to them in the quarters.
  12. Quality bit of composure for the goal. They are encouraged to play out from the back at that level....sometimes they overplay and make mistakes though...couple of times that happened today as well. Very good prospect and a leader from what I’ve heard. Another that has another year at this age group. Unfortunately for him, there is two other centre halves coming through that are even more promising.
  13. Don’t think bringing back players who ultimately failed to get us to a major championship is the solution.....
  14. You could actually hear Stark telling a few of the boys to cool it....especially Mebude. You’ve got to remember a few of these boys were still playing u17 football up until a few months ago. Kai Kennedy was the stand out for me. It wasn’t his best game but Dean Campbell is a very tidy player as well who is already getting a lot of first team exposure.
  15. Yeah we can debate the ability, or lack of ability, of the players..... but for me, the two main issues we have to address are 1) the weak mentality either of the group as a whole or individuals, and 2) lack of leadership. Against Russia in the first game, for the first half hour, we were excellent and could’ve been 2 or 3 goals to the good, our tails were up.....they score and we completely crumble! They stuck to their game plan, had faith in their ability..... turned the game. The difference in mentality is astounding! Give the kids a chance and who knows, there may be a leader in there who can whip some arses or take games by the scruff of the neck i.e a certain Billy Gilmour.
  16. I know many on here would disagree,, but I would always have Forrest in my strongest XI with Fraser on the opposite side. Add to that McTominay instead of Fleck who doesn’t do it for me. Obviously Tierney would be in there either at right back or at centre back. McKenna and Souttar are ahead of any of the centre backs that played tonight.... and that’s coming from someone who really rated Mulgrew up until the last season or two. Ryan Jack has been terrific this season, Europe in particular, and has improved immensely under Gerrard. Wouldn’t be against playing him as a holding midfielder or at right back. To me it doesn’t matter where Burke plies his trade or how much he has commanded in transfer fees...he has done the square root of f**k all every club he has been at since Nottingham Forest. An athlete yes, but zero football intelligence. A fit and well Griffiths and Hornby are the two I would put ahead of the likes of Burke, McBurnie and Brophy.
  17. I get what your saying, that was never our strongest team though. He’s not a poacher but what Hornby can do, which our other strikers seem completely incapable of, is hold the ball up and bring other players into the game, as well as take some of the pressure off our defence. Have you got a better solution when it comes to strikers?
  18. That maybe so but it was a frustrating night for the u21s in general. He did score a double for Kortrijk In their last game and his all round game is already better than McBurnie in my opinion, so why not give him a shot??
  19. F**kin Josh Magennis scored for NI again tonight against the Dutch, and someone called Kieffer Moore (aye exactly....who?) scored for Wales....after 0 goals for Wigan so far this season! And we can’t find one striker capable of putting the ball in the back of the net at international level.... Give Hornby his shot!
  20. Never known a national team to give away so many cheap goals!
  21. Hornby is our best option up front, but from what I’ve heard he isn’t a natural forward. It is a worry.
  22. Hugely frustrating match but it really pisses me off that when we batter a team with possession, more efforts on goal, they barely get out their own half etc. the other team are “smarter”. Yet when we go to Croatia and beat the top seeds, it’s just smash and grab or we were just jammy! Tonight wasn’t a great performance, lacking cutting edge in the final third, BUT we still have FAR superior players to Lithuania, who at best were defensively well organised, as Baltic teams often are.

    Keepers

Robbie McCrorie was very talented as a youth player with some outstanding aspects to his game. Was heavily linked with big clubs. But he has a mental fragility to his game and made some big mistakes during games like the Youth Cup Final. Hopefully with a bit of maturity they will be ironed out his game. I’m 6 ft 3 and been stood beside him before.....he’s a big lad.
  24. Hornby voted player of the month at Kortrijk.....he really should be in about the full squad in my opinion.
  25. Haha nothing wrong with a bit of poaching! All strikers should have that instinct. Watched the game and even in the lead up to the first goal, before he received the ball back, his link up and hold up play was excellent.
