He was a 16 year old tbf. Very few 16 year olds get first team football offered to them. Surely celtic should get some credit for trying to promise first team football and giving him a few minutes to prove that. If they had offered that plus money that was near to what liverpool were offering then doak might have stayed. Instead celtic have lost a real talent due to mostly money. Its clear to me that celtic and rangers need to up their wage structure for young players and give them more gametime. They both play absolute shite every week and are often up 3 or 4 nil with 25 mins remaining. They should be able to play youngsters against the spl dross and still win.

Tbf adams and dykes will be our main guys in these games.

I think its mainly money. Celtic and rangers need to up their wages for young players who look really promising. Tie down guys like lowry and doak even if it requires them getting a few grand a week. Celtic did give doak gametime tbf but the money on offer down south is just too much. Said it lots in previous threads but moving down south to play epl youth football at 16/17/18 or even 19/20 isnt the best option for youngsters. It might be financially good but career wise its not particularly very good when you consider very few of our players actually progress to the first team of these epl clubs.

So whats everyones team for these games. Mine is this Gunn Hickey cooper hendry robbo Mcgregor Mctominay mcginn Armstrong tierney Adams Swap in christie for armstrong and dykes for adams in the second half. Ferguson deserves gametime as well, maybe put him on for mctominay second half.

Looks like decent batch of players. Theres probably 5 or 6 in that group who will progress to the full squad eventually. Maybe even more.

It will be a serious knock to our chances of getting a result against spain if hes not playing. Cyprus we should be able to beat without him but getting a draw or even a win v spain will require our best players putting in a big performance.

If a country cant put an x in a box for independence then i think its a case of moving on a trying to make the best of it under british rule. Thats the harsh reality.

Really hope hes fit for these upcoming games. Hes already missed a fair few squads over the years and he adds another dimension to our team when he plays. Its typical of our luck that half our squad is either injured or not playing regulary.

I think its a bit daft to say you wouldnt consider playing for another country. If i was 25/26 and not good enough to play for scotland then i would certainly consider playing for another country especially if there was a decent chance of getting to major tournaments. Its a dream for young footballers to play at a euros or world cup. Mikey johnston is about to turn 24 and clearly knows he isnt going to get a chance with scotland so has taken an option most would take. Personally i wish him all the best. Hopefully he helps ireland out and plays well. Just not against us lol.

Tbf hes not always been first pick for us and a guy who gets games for man utd will always be considered for our first team and will always be in our squads. Saying that i wouldnt necessarily start him as i think hes mostly been average for us although he did play well in the last round of games.

I have just looked up the definition of race. Not sure how the irish could be considered a race under the definitions i found online. Do you think scottish is a race? What makes you think irish is a race? Surely its a nationality rather than a race. Are the french or italians a race?

I dont think plastic paddy is a racist term. Are the irish a race? Infact are the scottish a race? Also what is it with the spelling police around here. I have been pulled up in the past for it, usually when certain members dont like the point i am making and they will try and take a cheap snipe at spelling or punctuation instead making a valid counter point. Most ppl in here usually make all kinds of spelling and grammatical mistakes. If you care massively about these minor details then a football message board probably isnt the best place for you.

I think thats a bit harsh on him. He clearly wanted to play for scotland but just isnt quite good enough. Hes been given the promise of international football with ireland and hes about to turn 24. He could probably have waited a couple of years but realistically i doubt hes going to turn into a player good enough to get in our squads. Good luck to the lad, always hoped he would make the step up and play for scotland but hes just not good enough. Shame as we often lack flair players like him.

Josh doig should be called up but i would be tempted to play tierney at left midfield. It would allow both tierney and robbo to play. Your criticism of clarke being loyal to favourites over form is daft. Of course hes going to have favourites but hes given caps out to young players like gilmour patterson and hickey. I reckon he will be fully aware of doigs ability and form.
