  1. Ah - before all the benches seats and Davie Cooper stand went in. First all-seater stadium in britain, I believe...
  2. Fortunately the lack of guns in this country makes something like that highly unlikely (we have imported a fair number of people who probably wouldn't think twice though, had they the means). Re security - surely we aren't going down the same road as the Americans where the possibility of arming teachers becomes a serious discussion topic?
  3. On the grounds that an SNP majority in Holyrood does not = a majority for independence. As we have seen. A democratic decision was taken, so this rubbish about anti-democracy is laughable. There the matter needs to rest for a long time.
  4. Certainly true in my case, and also among friends and family who voted No. I think YES actually did score a significant victory by making the referendum not about "An Independent Scotland Versus Staying in the UK" but "An Independent Scotland Versus a Souped-Up and Improved UK". I've been very happy with Devolution but it has caused complications. One of my concerns is further devolution will magnify these. I see that as a much bigger threat to the future of the UK than any hypothetical future Scottish IndyRef (which I'm convinced will be a long time coming).
  5. If Devo Max had been on the ballot paper, the entire UK would surely have had to have a say. It would be a constitutional game-changer.
  6. You're not suggesting the next UK government could be made up of coalition of Labour, the Lib Dems and the SNP?!? Stuff of fantasy. There's no chance of Scotland being independent in the next 5 years. None whatsoever. The timing of any future referendum will be up to the UK government who will hopefully block any referendum over the next 25 years.
  7. And that he claims to be an Arsenal fan. Guess that makes him a **** too. Surely not?
  8. I am. We democratically voted to stay part of the Union. It's (some) nationalists who seem unable to accept the resultant are talking about UDI and other undemocratic rubbish.
  9. I'm still a No and don't regret voting no. Not one one iota. Neither does anyone else that I know who voted No. I don't care about the Vow, that didn't swing my vote in the slightest as I don't even want more Devo. That's not what won the day. I voted No because I wanted to remain British and the white paper was an uncosted wishlist that relied heavily (and unrealistically) on the goodwill of the state we would have been breaking away from. And no "I'm allright Jack" here. Remaining in the UK is not just good for me but for all of Scotland in my book. Even if somehow the tables have turned since the vote, it's too late anyway. Per the Edinburgh Agreement, this has been settled for a generation.
  10. Sounded like they outsang us overall, which annoys me more than being outplayed tbh. Weirdly we always seem to play better at Wembley against them than on our own turf. Gutted.
  11. This whole fetishisation of the armed forces is a very ugly (American-esque) trait and to my mind this pressure to conform is a deliberate attempt to shame people into not criticising the catastrophic Iraqistan project. That's a good post. That isn't. What you really mean is: "...it is a symbol of Britain of which I want to have no part what so ever."
  12. So let's say Catalonia gets it's wish and goes independent. If that's what the majority want then fine, and Madrid would be foolish to try to suppress that desire - didnt turn out well last time. But the big unknown for me is where would FC Barcelona play. Spain would be well within their rights to say "see you later". They could withdraw from the Imperialist La Liga and set up a Catalan league with Espanyol instead (who would presumably change ther name). As we learned, independence means walking away from certain things you take for granted.
  13. It all depends on who's taking the pash and what is being mocked as to whether certain folk find it funny though. The Scots rip the pash out of the English and vice versa - long may it continue. And political figures have long been mocked in this country. Although apparently a GIRUY to Salmond is worth police intervention. So glad Yes didn't win, for that reason alone. Cliping to the cops - utterly pathetic. Not sure why Nessie got dragged into it though. The first dinosaur was discovered by Gideon Mantell, a sophisticated man from Lewes. I think you should respond in kind by burning an effigy of an iguanodon.
  14. Yes, a minority. As in "lost a referendum", not as in "ethnic". Nice try at use of emotive language though. The Scottish symbols on the effigy are to lampoon the shortbread tin nationalism of which Salmond is the hallmark, not Scotland as a nation.
  15. From Twitter: Remember to check under your bonfire in case there's a Scotch chap asleep there. Prickly fellows. Can't take a joke.
  16. This is my kind of Burns night. What a Bonniefire. Looks like it's Salmond's feet to the fire. Penny for the guy? Nope, get your own currency. Amusing, but not as funny as the reaction from humourless Yessers.
