  1. Probably stretching it a bit to call them โ€˜gigsโ€™ but I am off to see Dionne Warwick tomorrow night and Big Bad George Benson next Friday. Yeeha ! Canny wait ! They are 81 and 79 years old respectively. The dates have been rescheduled a couple of times due to covid, I was worried they might not manage, but they have not been cancelled ๐Ÿ’ช ๐ŸŽผ Never give up on a good thing , remember what makes you happy ๐ŸŽผ๐Ÿ’ƒ
  2. Its not โ€˜newโ€™ news but I was wondering if there is anything on social media about this ยฃ400 energy bill allowance that is being given to people who own multiple homes ? I cannot believe i have not read more about it, how on earth can this be justified? Was just wondering if I am missing something.
  3. We often complain about getting no luck, and sometimes with good reason, but we really got a massive help last night with the sending off. If ever there was a night we needed a realistic assist it was last night. I an not sure a sending off in the Ukraine game would have made much difference to the outcome, but it was enough against Armenia.
  4. ๐Ÿ˜‚ My husband played left back and I remember him moaning about having to take a turn in goal when he played 5 asides , that is until a few years ago when he was desperate to get there ! He also had ambitions to play bass guitar but that never amounted to anything either โ€˜ even though I bought him a bloody guitar and lessons. He never quite became the football come rock star I thought i was marrying ๐Ÿ˜ I think probably what Toepoke said is correct. Midfield seems to be the โ€˜en vogue โ€˜ position these days due to its variety .

Yugoslavia is not a great analogy, that is the equivalent of there being a team GB then splintering. That is not the situation. You would generally expect better results from a larger population compared to it breaking into numerous small countries. However, even after Yugoslavia breaking up, both Croatia and Serbia are above us in the rankings and Macedonia have regularly terrorised us. I dont think anyone thinks for a moment that becoming independent will suddenly transform us to a top footballing nation. But we have a timid , negative โ€˜cant doโ€™ mindset in this country which was made very clear in the referendum when most people voting against us running our own affairs chose โ€˜No โ€˜ because we didnt think we could do it, not because they wanted to remain in the union. That is despite the No side admitting we could be successful on our own. This mindset must filter down to other things. We just dont seem to have the determination other countries do . We are lazy.
  6. That is utterly mental. Try being fookin Scottish. ๐Ÿ™„

    ๐Ÿ˜‚ What a bizarre interpretation.
  8. ๐Ÿ˜‚ You would think the teams should be evenly matched but our group would suggest otherwise.
  9. No we arenโ€™t. In the off chance that our defence actually clear the ball our counter attack gets as far as the halfway line then the ball is back to our defence who are not so successful the second time ..
  10. Ireland putting up a far better fight against Ukraine than we did. There is little between the 2 teams. A think we really want a draw here.

I live in a hugely unionist area and was in a hugely Rangers pub on Saturday and it was packed. Infact I was at the table next to Ally McCoist. Not sure what your point is.
  12. Think we have to hope for a draw. Which is possible if Ireland have been given a boost from their result against us.
  13. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ wft Adams. What a boost a goal does for your confidence.
  14. Another good goal. Happy for Adams.
  15. Hopefully boost his confidence a bit after some many recent misses.
  16. Agree. Could end up 3 or 4 -1 but masking real defensive problems. I was encouraged by Armstrong pushing forward for the first goal, that is something we are badly lacking, never being in a position , or creating space, to catch out defenders.
  17. Even Der Kaiser started off as a CF ๐Ÿ˜Š Originally a centre forward, he idolised 1954 FIFA World Cup winner Fritz Walter and supported local side 1860 Munich, then the pre-eminent team in the city, despite their relegation from the top league, the Oberliga Sรผd, in the 1950s. Tut tut โ€ฆ In 1963, at the age of 18, Beckenbauer was engulfed by controversy when it was revealed that his then girlfriend was pregnant and that he had no intention of marrying her; he was banned from the West German national youth team by the DFB and only readmitted after the intervention of the side's coach Dettmar Cramer.[12]

I do agree the culture and weather is a factor.

As Dave says, they have an outstanding individual in a striker role. When you are not blessed with that your team needs a strong psychological mindset to overcome the shortcomings. I do not believe we will ever flourish when we are in the UK . Even small things like build up to matches on TV , highlights etc. It is always England first, then whatever of the other 3 home nations is more successful at that particular time. Of course England brings a bigger tv audience but this whole pecking order being ingrained year after year, has a psychological affect, I donโ€™t care what anyone says. We need to be ourselves , not one of the โ€˜three othersโ€™ in the UK ..
  20. Ok, this is going to be ridiculous โ€˜girly โ€˜ question but, from what I remember from school in the olden days, every guy wanted to be a striker. I cant imagine much has changed so assuming this is a popular position why do we produce so few strikers? You would think the demand to play in that position would produce some talent. I could perhaps understand if we struggled with goalies, but not strikers. Has something changed ?

I dont think many people think it will undoubtedly make us a great footballing nation. It would however improve psychological barriers , I think most people agree that mindset is a large factor in success .
