EU Referendum
TDYER63 replied to irnbruman's topic in Anything Goes - Other topics not covered elsewhere
That woman doesn't half talk some amount of pish. She, or the so called 'experts' have no idea how an independent Scotland would have done just as she , and they, have absolutely no way of knowing how the UK would survive outwith the EU. If anyone thinks these experts are speaking from a politically neutral basis they are sadly deluded. I imagine David Cameron will be spending his' retirement ' paying back brownie points . Dragging out all these financial experts in referendums is almost as bad as dragging out the celebrities. At the end of the day absolutley no-one can tell what the future will bring. And who gives a fook if David Beckham is voting to remain. If someone votes to remain as they know their job will be directly affected by coming out then I can understand why they will choose that option . But there are far too many sweeping generalisations going on about finances. This vote is like trying to choose between the 2 most rancid apples left at the bottom of a very deep barrel. I shall reluctantly vote 'remain ' as i feel there is no chance of an independant Scotland anytime soon and the prospect of Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage calling the shots is just too awful to contemplate. -

I expect a comfortable win for remain unless , as others have mentioned , there is a large number of voters unwilling to say they are voting 'out' for fear of being branded racist. In the same way many of the 'silent majority' in indyref were fearful of sounding unpatriotic by voting 'no'. -

Gbp/usd up 6 cents since Thursday is an even bigger indication that the markets see us staying in the Uk. A brexit scenario would have a much bigger negative impact on gbp/usd than gbp/eur as the euro would also be under a lot of pressure if the Uk left the EU , thereby resticting the weakness of gbp against the euro to some degree . However the fact sterling has moved higher against the Usd is a massive signal that the financial markets believe we are staying in. Not saying the markets are always right of course . I would still look to the bookies first .. -

If you were to go by the polls, in Scotland the 'in' campaign is still a reasonable bit ahead, so it would be quite an effort to turn this into a majority for 'leave' . Throughout the UK it seems to be much tighter and therefore the more scots that vote ' remain' the higher the chances of the uk remaining in the EU and avoiding indyref2 for the time being. -

I think she probably is still cool towards it. I do agree it could be a tactic for scottish voters to choose ' remain ' though possibly more a tactic by the pro EU media than the SNP. I dont know the Heralds stance on Brexit but its interesting than none of the pro Brexit papers have run with this. Normally the Mail would have anything to do with Indyref2 screaming from its front page. -

I honestly have no idea what i spend a month on girly ( i might be stretchng that a bit ) things. £15 (including tip...) every 2 months for a haircut. So £7.50 a month. Always wear make up but not much and def not expensive stuff so say another £7.50 a month on make up. Have never had a manicure or pedicure and have only had a facial once . It was shit, i looked no different whatsoever. Always get perfume for birthdays or xmas so spend nothing on that. Biggest cosmetic expense is face cream. Spend about £50 a month between the 2 face creams i use. Clothes , some months i spend nothing then the next month i go mental . Probably £100-£150 a month averaged . Going out money probably £200 -£ 250 a month, maybe more. But that will include my contribution towards a meal out once or twice a month . These are all my estimates. The truth of course is probably a lot more. If any of your wives or girlfriends do spend a lot more dont be dragging me into it. ' Hey Chardonnay doll, that TDYER63 fae the TAMB only spends £7.50 a month getting her hair cut , why do you spend more than that getting yer armpits waxed'? ' -

I was just meaning that until thplinth interjected with his comment people were just all saying the same thing but using different words , ie it is sad and shocking. Which it is. Theplinth just brought another dimension when it could have continued with more of the same. Dianesque admittedly is a bit of an exaggeration right enough ! I just use that comparison as it is my first memory of the general public commenting on something they found sad , nothing more. -

It was. And some will be unhappy that it was brought into the discussion. However if you are going to have a thread about an MP being murdered, and quite possibly connected to the referendum , then i dont really think it is too surprising that someone highlights that there may be some potential political benefit from this atrocious incident. It is right that people show their respect by posting comments of shock and sadness , this was a despicable act, but the thread risks becoming a Princess Dianaesque love in if that is all it produces. Whilst it will not bring the lady back nor make the murder any more palatable , i hope there is another reason for it as the thought of this bloody merry go round leading to this is truly frightening. -

its nothing to do with being respectful or not , if someone has been murdered and It is in some crazy way linked to the fact the lady was a supporter of 'remain' then it is human nature to retaliate against the crime in some way . In this instance many people will vote to remain as a statement. Whether or not that is right, or that it is even connected to the referendum, is another discussion. -

I was meaning low in comparison to the last few years , specifically around the referendum period and to the fact that NO voters saying we would be bankrupt at current prices.
