  1. Impressed, Aylesbury had a decent team in those days. Gary Smith's still a though.
  2. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/city-banker-sacked-after-taunting-117333
  3. On what basis, because he's at Chelsea?
  4. I haven't bought anything from Next for about 20 years. Primarily as its all shite gear.
  5. The law was changed 2 months ago to increase the age restriction from 16 to 18.
  6. I used to work for DB and was a Vice-President, I think there are about 5000 or so in the bank. Believe me, it means absolutely nothing.
  7. I see they've removed the name now. They'll be getting their knuckles rapped as they shouldn't have named him as he's under 18.
  8. Everyone else in the carriage would be able to hear them though.
  9. Look out for this guy turning up in the audience. Scott Arthur, labour blogger and "ordinary university lecturer"
  10. This weeks panel from Edinburgh Annabel Goldie Keith Brown Deputy Dugdale Billy Bragg Merryn Somerset Webb - me neither.
  11. Chelsea are planning to flatten and completely rebuild Stamford Bridge to increase capacity from 42,000 to 60,000. This will be on the same footprint as the current ground which is considerably smaller and more constrained than Hampden. Obviously Chelsea are a commercial organisation and have a billionaire owner prepared to fund the redevelopment. I can't see where the money would come for a redevelopment of Hampden or indeed building a new national stadium elsewhere. Far more important projects for infrastructure spending in Scotland.
  12. I don't have a problem with the fact that the members of the House of Lords are appointed per se. The problem is two-fold though, firstly that they almost exclusively appointed by political parties - I think the only exceptions are the CoE bishops. Secondly, the fact that once appointed, they are there for life. The Tories recently appointed someone - the guy allegedly responsible for the Poll Tax - as they did not have enough MPs to have as ministers in the Scottish Office. Whether or not you agree with that or not, the fact is the guy is there to solve a problem for this parliament but he'll be in the Lords forever more even if he's no longer required by subsequent governments. A second, truly proportional, revising chamber would a great thing. I'd welcome a chamber that was 50% elected - on a regional PR system and 50% appointed. However I'd like to see the appointed half coming from the whole of civic society, so groups like trades unions, the GMC, the legal profession, academia, third sector, *all* major religions, etc., etc. That way, I think you get a good mix of people with the practical real life experience that reflects the political balance of the country. Stick them on fixed terms, maybe 4 years for the elected part and 6 years for the appointees.
  13. The government tried to pull a fast one by putting the tax credits cuts through as a statutory instrument, which meant that it was subject to a lot less scrutiny in the commons. Basically by they wanted to push it through as quickly as possible before people figured out what was going on. Problem being that using this approach meant the Lords could defeat it, so a real tactical blunder by the government. Also worth noting that there was a Lib Dem amendment that could have scrapped the whole thing which failed because Labour abstained.
  14. Wembley's pretty easy to get to if you know what you're doing, getting away afterwards can be a nightmare unless you leg it right on full time.
  15. The area around Porta Genova by the canal is pretty good for bars and restuarants although sadly Cesare Maldini's place is no more.
  16. Euro 2004 used two stadiums in both Lisbon and Porto.
  17. Its in Sinsheim which has a population of 35,000.
  18. Marches and demonstrations are very unlikely to convince anyone who has an opposing view to change that, that's true whatever the cause is. However, what they do do is to help the morale of activists and act to encourage people to keep working for whatever it is they are trying to change. Its best to look at them in this context.
  19. Ŷou create an account and then register the card against the account.
  20. Hampden *should* be well served by public transport - there is a train station right next door. Problem is that the whole thing isn't joined up at all. On match day, there should be shuttle trains running out to Mount Florida as frequently as they can from about an hour before kick off and after the match it should be the same. A similar scheme to Germany where they include the price of the train in the match ticket would mean they could just lift the barrier. Its the same with Prestwick Airport. Again there is a station actually at the airport. Should be great except you can't get a train for an early flight.
