  1. I think he’d be better off actually playing for the u21s than not playing for the first team. He played last night because Rangers played with a back three and Sands was suspended. He is still being used fairly sporadically in the Rangers first team, so getting games for the u21s would be good for him.
  2. I think a lot of clubs from the EPL and beyond will have taken note of Hendry’s recent performances for us. He will be in demand in January. Pace is a prerequisite for a defender at top clubs. Add to that his height, technique, competitive qualities and self-confidence, I think he joins a fairly short list.
  3. Yeah, I mentioned him. Nailed on starter by then, and a star player.
  4. Apart from goalkeeper, everything looks fine. The current strikers will still be around and hopefully better ones will emerge (perhaps Rory Wilson). Armstrong will still be fine at 33 and McGregor at 32, but they’ll have Lowry and Gilmour to compete with and possibly Cole McKinnon, Connor Smith and Chris Mochrie, to name a few.
  5. As much as I respect his contribution for us, the above is true. Blackburn played quite industrial football and he was a player who could clear his lines and dominate the box. He didn’t have pace or particularly good technique, and wasn’t as good as Gough, for example. I wouldn’t swap him for Jack.
  6. Agree. Even the mid 80s teams got some doings and under performed on a fairly frequent basis, although undoubtedly we had some tremendous players then (including the three I mention).
  7. In terms of overall squad depth, best since the mid 80s. Of course many players since then would get in the current first 11.
  8. “Best since” means best of those that came after the “since”. So about 1985 or there abouts. If we had Dalglish and Johnston up front now… I’m well aware of the players we had in the 90s and I’m also aware of the variable squad depths of those days.
  9. I’d go with Hendry and McKenna as it gives us a high line with their pace. Porteous was great though and Souttar, if he can get himself fit, is also a very good player.
  10. Hendry took a lot of stick on here during his Celtic days and was ridiculed by some. His potential was always clear enough and it would seem he’s now fulfilling it. He was different class these last three games. He has unbelievable pace, very good technique, good in the air, can bring the ball out of defence and he shouts and organises. If he gets a full season of games in Italy his transfer value will become very high indeed.
  11. Clarke is doing a good job, although I’m not convinced he would have changed formation without the injuries. No complaints about the way he set out the team, and the players seem to like and respect him. This is probably the best squad of players we’ve had since the days of Dalglish, Johnston and Cooper up front, or at least it soon will be. Striker is the main problem, and keeper is the looming one. Other than that, it’s top class and we have the likes of Lowry, Doak and Morrison on the horizon plus a few others.
  12. We could play 4-2-3-1 with Tierney in the 2 or the 3. Some tough decisions to be made. The alternative is to drop Robertson.
  13. We may end up with Tierney and Hickey in midfield. Alternatively, we’ll just be like big nations and have great players on the bench. Patterson is currently more of an attacking threat from RB. Hickey, like Tierney, could play just about anywhere. Having a two footed player in central midfield would allow for very quick switches of play and counterattacks, and more effective tackling.
  14. It will probably be a left footer that replaces McKenna.
  15. What garish monstrosities are en vogue these days? I don’t see the problem with the top - it’s classic style with a few wee touches here and there. Much better than the weird squiggly horizontal lines on the last one.
  16. It wouldn’t surprise me if Doig replaced McKenna at left centre half. He played that role for the u21 v Northern Ireland last week.
  17. Most players improve with experience and I’m optimistic he’ll be worth the effort. Even now opposition defences will be forced to adjust their position if he’s on the pitch.
  18. Because he brings something we don’t otherwise have. Two goals in the Bundesliga is also not bad for September.
  19. I’m amazed Burke isn’t in the squad. Get him called up.
  20. I didn’t say quicker. Adams can bring pace quicker on the half turn but there’s nothing much in it when they’re both at full pelt. If Dykes is facing goal and the ball is played in front of him he causes defenders problems. He certainly had the Old Firm defenders on toast at times. Ex-QPR striker agrees. https://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/football-gallen-dykes-is-qprs-number-one-striker/amp
  21. The IRA is an organised crime gang that thought nothing of blowing up civilians enjoying a pint on a night out. Don’t get the rose-tinted specs on, I can only imagine you’re too young to remember them properly.
  22. Adams isn’t quick. He turns quick but Dykes would match him over 20 - 30 yards.
  23. Dykes is as quick as Adams (acceptable but not rapid), but he isn’t able to bring the ball in and spin on the half turn like Adams can. It does change the way we play and there were a few lazy out balls played to Dykes’ head that were unnecessary. I prefer Dykes as an impact sub, but there are pluses and minuses with both players. As a team, we’re probably better with Adams to allow sustained possession.
  24. Ukraine were probably knackered for the Wales game, and adrenaline probably got them past us.
