  1. Glenlivet yes. Less sure of the source of the ice cube though?
  2. Agree about Old Pultney - which has a slightly sour and sharpness/saltiness which may not sit well on a palate new to whisky. If you want to try the Islay malts I'd go for Bruichladdich (not as smokey/peaty as other malts from the Island; and they distill the fantastic Botanist gin). My pick for cutting your teeth would be Aberlour, Oban or best of all, and in the glass beside me now, Tobermory. If you find Scotch a little harsh, try a good bourbon eg Knob Creek Enjoy - slainte
  3. "I don't know if I'm right" "Hopefully I'm right" Strange for a dinosaur to be spineless So Sbragia thinks physical players and runners is the key to getting results? Has he learnt nothing? He should have seen Harper several times and met him to put an arm around him, tell him he's a big part of his plans, that he has a great future with Scotland. Instead he tells him that the coach's vision is of a team of big, hard-running cloggers. FFS! Only Scotland 5 or 6 years ago Jordan Rhodes was a teenage goalscoring sensation. He remains our record scorer at U-21 level and has continued his goalscoring record while maturing and moving up a division, as well as scoring when called on by Scotland. He has an exemplary record and desperately wants to play for us. Another country of our size would have given him 30 caps by now and he'd have a dozen international goals. He's not young any more - he's 25 and must feel he's on trial. Let's get round Jack Harper and make sure he knows how much we value him by including him at every opportunity
  4. "I'm not saying I'm right....." "Hopefully I'm right......" WTF - strange for a dinosaur to be spineless Only Scotland Here on TAMB we've been aware of, and watching and waiting for, Jack Harper for years now. Six years in fact since he first started to make "the cut" at Real Madrid , which he's now done every year since 2009 ...and look what do when he's looking ready to take his chance People on here are saying that by picking big physical guys and runners Sbragia is placing getting results at the expense of player development. What?!!!! So we still think a physical approach gets results? Aye right. Have we learnt nothing? All this at a time when WGS is finally getting Scotland playing some football and restoring pride in performance. A few years ago we had a prolific young goalscorer. He built on his phenomenal youthful success and, over the next 5 years or so, created possibly the best goalscoring record in the UK. He remains our highest ever scorer at U-21 level, and has moved up the divisions since. That young player has an exemplary attitude and is desperate to play for Scotland. He is of course Jordan Rhodes but he's not young any more - he's 25. Jack Harper must not become this generation's lost star. Sbragia should have seen him half a dozen times and met him each time, put his arm around him, told him what a future he could have with Scotland. Instead he's told him of the coach's vision of Scotland as hard working cloggers. It's a fvckin disgrace
  5. I'm more in tune with Parklife on this one. After the optimism and then the despair in Sept, the SNP can't take any votes or seats for granted. If Miliband and Labour implode, and if the SNP through Salmond is aggressively talking of holding feet to fire throughout, the English vote could swing to the Tories. Labour losses in Scotland will still go to SNP but, in this scenario, Labour losses in England go to the Tories who were only 20 or so seats short last time. It's not impossible for them to win and SNP do not want to blow it by unnecessarily p*****g off the English and driving voters to the Tories. I think Nicola Sturgeon's doing a great job and it's clear to me that Salmond is taking the heat off her. They're a good team - no conflicts of interest: he'll lead the party in WM, she leads ScotGov. Come May 8th we can be as noisy as we want but before that I'm a bit nervous that we over-egg it [see I can do that egg thing too]. These are critical times and IMO the SNP don't want to jump the gun. It's fun watching the panic in WM all the same!
  6. Murrayfield's good for that - you can have a beer outside in the sunshine too on a decent day. How were the trams?
  7. Agree with both these posts - the chance v Ireland wasn't a sitter but was exactly the sort of chance that makes a prolific scorer what he is. As andyD says, Rhodes is intelligent and strong and scores many of his goals by outmuscling and then running across defenders. ......another real difference may be that Rhodes could by now have has 5 from 13 for us
  8. Bummer? https://iberieli.wordpress.com/2015/03/18/35-reasons-why-you-should-definitely-never-visit-georgia/
  9. Rhodes Why would a manager not try out different scenarios and Plan B's? What if Fletcher gets injured (I know that's unlikely). What is Griffiths does a Goodwillie (or an O'connor, a Riordan, or yes, a Griffiths?). Someone asks on what basis would you throw in JR from the start. Em, goals maybe? 125+ in less than 6 seasons, and one less for us than Fletch & Naisy combined, in a fifth of the games. IMO he could play with Naismith who protects the ball well and uses it cleverly. Rhodes is not just a poacher but he does, like all good strikers, thrive on wide service - Anya, Forrest, Robertson, Hutton, Snodgrass, Maloney? He scores with both feet (compare to Fletcher's miss) and his head. I'm not even saying he should start ahead of Fletcher but his record has earnt him the chance to show again what he can do. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fncgG2nfms8 Finally, someone asked when did we last score from a poached goal. A better question would be "when did we last miss a simple poached goal?".
  10. Any relation to Sergio Rhodes?
  11. Jordan RhodesHeScoresGoals - here we go again - youtube his goals in the last 2 seasons - he's anything but JUST a poacher FTR: JR - 67 in 125 [scot 3/11) RMc - 93 in 263 - 103 in 311 incl M'well [2/11] Fletch - 52 in 166 [1/18] Griffiths - 12 in 26 (48 in 107 incl SPL [0/4] C Martin - 37 in 138 [0/5] Not worth a place?
  12. This. Messi is a genius, running MC ragged. Barca should be 4 or 5 up. The beautiful game is alive and well
  13. Perfect - I'd buy that t-shirt. Also, have I missed something here? How is a vote for SNP a vote for DC as Prime Minister, if, as polls suggest as possible: - SNP 45 - Tories and Lab share 550: eg 275 each, 280/270 either way - Lib Dems 25 - NI 18 - Greens/Plaid/UKIP/Others/Ind 12 Is my 1973 O-level arithmetic not up to the job?
  14. People on here haven't a clue about strikers. The truth is Jordan Rhodes couldn't hit a coo's erse wi' a banjo while Iwelumo still had a lot to do
  15. 2 ie 1 each from my and my friend's house ??
  16. The girl done good. I saw her give a talk and then a Q&A at the London School of Economics this morning. She is a class act. Obviously I'm a supporter but she got a terrific reception at the end. [she got a warm hand on her entrance too but that's a different story]. It's true that if you practise a bit of gentle Tory-bashing at the LSE you're pushing at an open door but this was very gentle and was not in any way a point of focus of her address. She was reasoned, professional, relaxed, and extremely likeable. It's clear to see why she has such high personal approval ratings. I don't think the majority of the audience had any idea what to expect, especially when, for many, their only exposure may have been the "jockophobia" and gathering storm of xenophobic hysteria being whipped up by Opinions, Leaders and Cartoonists across the spectrum of London based meeja. Nicola Sturgeon will have surprised most of them and she did all Scots proud regardless of their political views. We are lucky to have her.
  17. I'd like to see something like this v NI: Gordon Forsyth, Martin, Greer, Anya Fletcher, Bannan, Russell Naismith, Rhodes, Fletcher Any team which is hoping to score half a dozen or more v Gibraltar needs a potential hat-trick man - for that I can only really see JR of Fletch. Why not play them both v NI?
  18. Aaaaah, what a lovely thread. This is what..... ...sniff.....makes the TAMB so special
  19. Good friend of mine (51) was airlifted after a skiing accident 3 weeks ago. Right knee: ruptured ACL, PCL, and medial ligaments Left knee: ruptured ACL, twisted laterals, damaged cartilage 6 weeks in braces followed by first surgery, and then second surgery three months later. That'll be his year sorted then....... It'll be a long haul for him so I'm interested in any thoughts from those who've been down this road
  20. Looks like your crew and Bristolhibby and me all on that flight from Istanbul Gokcen
