  1. Hardly arbitrary concerns. There are far more examples of players who are rusty because they’ve not been playing football. Tierney has been brilliant for Scotland but he racked up plenty of minutes for Arsenal in Europe, the cups and even the league, even though he wasn’t first choice. Indications were that he was now completely out the picture at Arsenal. Great news he seems to be getting a move to a Spanish Champions League team.
  2. Understand why that would frustrate you. The boy has all he needs to be world class. Under the right manager, that’s fixable and from what I’ve seen so far, he does seem willing to learn
  3. I replied to the wrong comment here! Meant to reply to Diamond Scot!
  4. It’s an interesting observation and I’m not disagreeing with you but a couple of thoughts. De Zerbi was piling on the praise for Gilmour yesterday and claims he is a transformed player compared to last year. Also a good comparison may be Jorginho who I don’t really recall sprinting back tracking runners. He was more about reading the game and making interceptions. That’s more of how I imagine Gilmour to develop. His defensive stats yesterday were quite solid yesterday
  5. Fuck, 40 games a week. No way Tierney’s body will cope with that schedule
  6. Personally, I vote for the argument to stay public!
  7. I agree. Was quite a dour takeaway from that short video I thought!!
  8. Ben Doak got 45 mins of Liverpool’s friendly v Karlsruhe. Sounds like he impressed. Could be a good season ahead. Should get a few opportunities in the Europa League (and maybe more)
  9. Great post. The midfield were brilliant. McTominay keeps surprising me at how good he actually is. Felt like we attacked with a bit more aggression and purpose with McTominay in this role. Great to see
  10. Love to see Gilmour in, but a wee bit anxious about McTominay playing in such an advanced role. Has he ever played there before? Will we stretch them enough at the back? Hopefully he has a blinder!
  11. I think it’s interesting to divide his reign so far into 2 distinct parts. The first is up to and including Euro 2020. The team he inherited was a shambles and completely shorn of confidence. We suffered some heavy losses (Belgium, Russia) but slowly became harder to beat, and gradually picked up enough form to qualify (via the back door) with encouraging performances versus Serbia and England. Win ratio was 41% but with no landmark wins over 90 minutes. Fair to say jury was still probably out at this stage but with some signs that things were moving in the right direction. Second part is post Euro 2020. Some iconic wins vs Denmark, Spain, Norway. Promoted to the top tier of the Nations League. Best performance in a World Cup qualifying group in many a year but followed by an admittedly disappointing loss to Ukraine in the playoff (and yes to Ireland immediately after during the same dip). And now the best start to a qualifying group in many years with 3 straight wins. Win ratio of 60%. A team that never knows when it’s beaten. A team that scores more goals and has more shots per game than any Scotland team in living memory. Overall, a pretty decent report card.
  12. Look, everybody talks pish from time to time. Either admit you got it wrong or simply don’t say anything at all. But don’t keep coming back to try justifying your original comments. It just makes you look like a dick
  13. Billy Gilmour in the starting 11 vs Man City! Great run of games in the last month of the season.
  14. From reading his comments, it sounds like he’s trying to manage a lot of players game time as they have a congestion of fixtures at the moment. It certainly didn’t make sense based on the flow of the game.
  15. Was at the Newcastle V Brighton game last night. Gilmour struggled in the first half. Newcastle marked him and pressed high on the Brighton central defenders all first half. They played a really physical game and it worked a treat. But in the second half, Gilmour came to life. Kept finding pockets of space and upped the tempo of his passing culminating in a brilliant assist. I wouldn’t have been surprised had he been hooked at half time. But he was taken off just at the point he’d grown into the game and started to look a major influence, and against one of the best sides in the league. Still a little worried De Zerbi doesn’t fully rate him. I’d start him in Norway.
  16. Can I just say - you are an excellent contributor on here. Learn something new every time you post!
  17. Third game in 6 days. They will have to use their squad a lot more next year if they’re in Europe
  18. Brighton boss and fans raving about Gilmour today. Anyone who’s watched him knows there’s a superb player in there. Be great if he gets a few minutes between now and the end of the season. What a boost it would be to have a fully firing Gilmour available again.
  19. You really are quite an annoying twerp. Although I suspect you already know this and it’s your primary motive for posting on this board. And I just bit so well done.
  20. It’s a bit of a donkey of a stat. But some people with too much time on their hands seemingly delve through old match reports to conjure historic assists stats. Apparently Kenny Dalglish is Liverpool’s all time top assister with around 160 assists. I even saw assist stats for Pele. I’m quite sure it wouldn’t have been counted at the time. Even though I just called it a donkey of a stat I’d still be interested to know who tops Scotland’s assist charts. Dalglish would be a good shout.
