  1. Dunfermline & QoS were getting some 5000 gates at top of Div 2 back then - more than Dumbarton in Premier league - think was only 2000 when Dons played them at Boghead Clydebank was bit better ; but away supports to pittodrie for some teams back then was counted by the taxi load
  2. Outstanding ; when he could be arsed we had a few in the Dons side around that time who likely light years ahead of their time and were not fully appreciated by the blood & thunder punters ; myself included - Bobby Connor & Billy Stark spring to mind
  3. closer to 24k ; but am trying to recall if this is the season that paddock/king street end was closed for new roof ? there was a "voucher" system in place at this time (i understand after debacle of liverpool game ticketing few years earlier) essentially back of ticket/stub was classed as 1 voucher - pretty sure you got one of these for pay at the gate games certain big games were ticket only / advertised in the press - old firm and some euro games (i recall dinamo berlin was pay at gate and was 19k ish ...) they would advertise a game starting at say 3 vouchers , then 2 etc ...... = a chant directed at early leavers at games ( not as common back then ? traffic....) "here for the vouchers / you're only here for the vouchers " to the tune of 'sing when your winning' entry for adults was 2.50/3.00 quid back then - i remember being shocked at 5 pound for Porto ECWC semi final i saw zero trouble with casuals at home during this era - away of course a different matter it was typically a blokes pastime though - as a teenager i can vouch for the low numbers of similar aged females at the games back then ..... of course you got the die hard couples in the main stand (tartan rug & pandrops etc) loads of men with their kids - but demographic has changed totally - i suspect the last minute pay at the gate ; sit where you want format attracted a lot of 'latent' support who otherwise would not be bothered/organized to pre book tickets back then you could be in a pub pre game ; and see interested parties tag along or conversely attract others to sink a few more and avoid the lashing rain for a dull midweek game
  4. great post am surprised that Disney have not launched a bid for sponsorship ; Mickey Mouse league
  5. Sounds right up my street;will look out for it based on that synopsis - any influence by “red riding” ?
  6. kind of weird as well how some top rated series actually tank after so many seasons homeland was great ; not sure when went downhill - (spoiler alert ) end of Finch maybe ? house of cards ; final season & Billions ; which i'd touted in the "good series to watch" thread ; becomes unwatchable - well reported on reviews - season 4 i think i couldn't handle killing eve at all
  7. These biscuits were rectangular, pretty sure the yellow ones had three pink stripes ; then inverse for the pink ones - there were rowers or other sports on the biscuit back or am imagining it ….
  8. I ll need to look out for those lemon drizzle ones when home next think markies trips were special occasions tbh ; i just remember a dark green sided box with cellophane cover; which then reminded me of those sickly yellow or pink icing sugar biscuits with sports images on the back ( biscuit ) side
  9. Does he still make exceedingly good cakes ? I noticed a shout for borders gingers - I usually grab those when back home - they remind me of a similar m&s version from childhood 70s… am also partial to a chocolate viennese
  10. I think it was the influence / parody for allo allo - which i avoided like the plague tbh
  11. Yes , saw it few months back very good ; bit dark ( obviously) but prefer that to blockbuster cgi stuff like midway / pearl harbo(u)r / and that tom hanks - greyhound one i understand there is a new mega series being filmed at moment by the band of brothers mob ; masters of the sky/air ? Usaaf bomber crews in england - listened to a podcast by a writer - but he couldnt say much logically/ hopefully they will eventually do a naval one an allied ‘das boot’ Reboot ?
  12. Are we talking mens or womens teams ? am trying to be diverse…
  13. Was huge eric black fan ; and used to watch him most weeks - never seen anyone hang in the air like him for a header ( typically a peter weir pinpoint cross ) tbh theres sone “ x factor “ or something required though in carrying on that form to international level - part of it too must be the role a forward is expected to fulfill- within system- more holdup / lay off - way less goalscoring chances ie - id say frank mcdougall was an even more prolific finisher than black ;but a penalty box poacher is a luxury we could ill afford for context ; i recall fergie rates him as the best penalty box finsher hed ever had - but dont think he was selected when he was involved during nationsl set up - approx same time mark mcghee is another one who should prob be in this category- i saw him score goal v england in 1-1 draw ; and he played in north american tour - but dont think he effectively made the step up in saying that graham sharp kept getting selected - good for everton ; dire for us….
  14. So decent for chelsea ; not so much for national side ?
  15. Lofted Cameron goal v celtic in lge cup semi …. winnie was known as the ‘white pele’ by some ; not as a compliment though
  16. Roy Aitken and Ricky Gillies goes in the same box as Steve Cowan for me ..... Kenny McLean was a great player ; part of the "almost" team that ran celtic close
  17. bizarrely i have watched a Norwegian series a few years back where Russia invades ....... "Occupied" - was very good i thought - but didnt really think it was feasible concept when watching it .......
  18. like foreign language films - will check that out ; thanks ! - started watching "Borgen" last night - only one episode in ..... Breaking Bad i always found too dark ; several failed attempts to get into it - i do like Better call Saul though = just finished the 4 part Netflix docuseries on D B Cooper - a story i knew a little about ; but pretty fascinating how deep some americans get into it = the series never really puts forward the theory (accepted by many) that he likely never survived the jump
  19. Weir, Bell , McDougall spring to mind as top rate signings - Steve Cowan not so much... am sure am missing others too .... ?
  20. Am with you on kelly mcdonald was reading comments at weekend with some yanks being annoyed at so many british actors over the pond stephen graham as al capone is good also some bizzare characters i liked - the ex ww1 sniper / missing half his face - and the tall guy from the flower shop ( he was in tigerland film ) wifes got us watching “ the split “ bit “meh” - maybe not so much for guys?
  21. vastly overrated; as he fell into the “gallus wee winger ; tanner ba …” bollocks we had been programmed to like seemed to be selected often on this criteria - he played for a crap chelsea side ( alongside the even more useless david speedie …) never thought he contributed much to national team ; was always a lot of anticipation when he got the ball out wide but typically came to nothing think he played well against malta ? At ibrox
  22. am sure he was Fergies last signing before he departed for Man Utd ? - i always saw it as a bit of a practical joke ..... i dont recall people thinking it was a great signing back then ; as opposed to say Bobby Connor from Dundee
