  1. The main foundation of the independence movement has never been about the oil. Nor should it have been. It's a bonus consideration. We would be economically stable if we didn't have it. It's a bonus. You never rely on your bonuses to pay the bills.
  2. We have to learn from this and move forward. It's been both a dismal and inspiring week in Scotland. Re-group, take a breath and prepare to start chipping away at the 55. There's no doubt that some have regrets about how they voted. More will come to regret how they voted. Persuasion and information is the way forward. We'll get more with sugar than with vinegar.
  3. You've got a point. But it is going to start somewhere. And when it does it will be the vulnerable because that's the way Westmonster work. Yes the thread has turned into something akin to the stoning scene from Python without the comedy, though I think people are letting off steam. Shouldn't imagine that anyone here has the power to remove heating allowances or to shred bus passes unless they're going to stand at Buchanan St and physically wrestle them from pensioners.
  4. There's local Facebook page just been launched in Inverclyde which by the end of day one has over 300 members ready to engage in tactical voting to rid Inverclyde of Labour. I'm still utterly devastated by the return. However I am moved now, more than ever before to see an independent Scotland in my lifetime. I'll be helping as much as I can. (This should be hilarious as I have numerous other commitments ). I don't think we are done yet. All Westmonster have succeeded in doing is awake the sleeping dragon. I have never seen more people in my community engaged in politics - never. I've had a crash course myself the last two years. Now every single day I learn more and a lot of knowledge I have gained from the good folks here. Still with everything to play for, this was one campaign. Please keep the information coming. Everything you share is valuable information.
  5. Flora for Obi Wan..... down but not out. Even more powerful in defeat.
  6. Like yermaw, I voted yes for a fairer more balanced Scotland. It wasn't a patriotic decision even though I knew in my heart it was absolutely the right thing to do. Some No voters will have done the same. It's the ones that voted for themselves I am really having a problem reconciling my feelings towards. Those who read nothing and listened to no one... well - it's open season. .... I will not hold back when I hear "how can they do this to us?"
  7. The contempt shown for our youth will come back to bite them in their collective arse. I have met 16 year olds who could present a better reasoned argument than some adults. Time to empower our youngsters. A fresh start. If anything good comes from this it'll be a more politically and socially aware and responsible generation. I had one older guy telling me that 16 year olds were too immature to vote. Ironically he was married young.... nowt as blind.
  8. So am I. My mother is 75. She voted yes. We spoke to her, persuaded her and finally she came round. She was on the phone this morning - she's really disappointed. She knew we had it within us as a nation to do this. Her starting point was a definitive and absolute no when this all started. She understands exactly what it meant and what it would take and what they will now take. I honestly cannot wait for the first round of cuts. Most of her friends voted no - she'll wipe the floor with them when they start to complain. ....
  9. Look at it this way - we lost , fine... They won.... They have to win EVERY TIME. The desire hasn't left us. The will for a few perhaps, but only temporarily. We only have to win once. Just once.
  10. Exactly ..... bring it on. I relish the "how can they get away with this" questions. ... my reply will not be metered nor shall it be edited to protect their feelings.
  11. I've woken up this morning - still devastated by the return of no, but even more determined to see Independent Scotland in our lifetimes. There can be no better time to move forward when the winning voters are complacent in their win and we are still obviously desiring change. I posted to my Facebook page this morning that no won this time - YES only has to win once. It would be an incredible waste of the effort that so many people put in to walk away now. I did as much as I was able and I'm ready and willing to do more. I don't believe for a minute we are finished - it won't be finished until we win.
  12. Sillars was brilliant. He really made his point and made it well.
  13. If it's any consolation, Daphne Broon's twin doesn't look awfully confident.
  14. 93% turn out in Larkfield Greenock. It's going to be a long night.
  15. My Mum just voted yes. I cried when she told me. She was vehemently no ..... my brother , husband and I must have said something right when she asked us.
  16. One of the polling stations in Greenock (Larkfield ) reporting a 75% turn out with just over 5 hours to go.
