I just hope folk are not getting too over confident. Loads of work still needs to be done to help persuade folk to get out on the 18th and put their X in that YES box. -

Postal Votes

They have changed the rules for the referendum. The polling stations will be open for an extra 2 hours in the morning but only for YES voters. And they will be open for an extra 2 hours at night but only for NO voters. So No voters can stay in the pub till eleven o'clock and still have time to vote on the way home. They drew lots to decide which way round it should be. Seems fair enough to me. -

My apologies to dafties everywhere. I hope you have learnt your lesson. A lot of older Scottish folk learnt their lesson in 1979 when they told us "Vote NO and we will give you something better". I just hope that the People of Scotland are not daft enough to believe that lie again. -

Well, if they are daft enough to believe what a bunch of Liberals tell them then they are clearly far "too stupid" to have an independent country. Maybe they should ask Germany to look after their affairs for them? -

You lot jist don't get it do you? The People of Scotland are fed up subsidising you lot doon there, we're jist no gonnae dae it ony mair. Whether we can afford to give RUK students free education (and we probably could) is besides the point. We have subsidised you for long enough. It's time you stood an your own two feet. If you continue to vote in governments that insist on charging students £9K a year for their education then hell mend you. Take responsibility for your actions. -

Cracking video. Some of that should be broadcast on TV as one of the political broadcasts. Maybe miss out the MSP fella -
Galloway Attacked In London
Orraloon replied to scoobydoo's topic in Anything Goes - Other topics not covered elsewhere
I thought something looked a wee bit strange there. The damage to Galloway's coupon looks fairly superficial considering the numbers blows flying about in that video. I thought either Galloway is one hard faced geezer or the attacker must be a bit of a Jessie. -

We have about 700,000 postal votes. Even if they managed to pochal that result from about 50;50 to say 60:40 that would only be about 140,000 votes which might be enough to swing it. But gerrymandering on that scale would need a concerted effort - somebody would blow the whistle on that one. We just need to work even harder to make sure we get another 140,000 YES votes by legitimate means. Despite the promising polls this isn't over yet. We need to work even harder in the last 2 weeks. Don't believe the polls, especially when they start telling you what you want to hear. -

I hear a lot about Postal vote scams but I'm not sure how big an issue it will be. If the postal votes are being counted on the night we will have observers there watching it. How are they going to get away with it? Don't forget a lot of the folk doing the counting will be YES voters as well. I understand the "dead folk do vote" system that certain parties are renowned for but there is only so much they can get away with on that front. -

Because if RUK students have to pay £9K a year to study down south or the can study in Scotland for free, loads of them would want to come to study in Scotland. Eventually Scottish universities would be 90% RUK and 10% Scottish students wit not enough places for Scottish students. -

They are no daft enough to walk doon to the polling station in the pissin' rain and a howlin gale when they don't need to. -

The SNP policy (should they have power to apply it after 2016) is to continue to charge fees from RUK students. How they achieve that is debatable. The SNP think they can get an opt out from EU law based on the damage which could be caused to the Scottish Higher education system if they weren't allowed to charge these fees. If that doesn't work then the system suggested by Evilscotsman is a perfectly reasonable and workable alternative. -

Once you register for a postal vote you stay registered for a postal vote for future elections unless you ask for it to be changed. You don't need to re-register for a postal vote for each election. -

Some folk were suggesting that when Gideon did his sermon on the pound back in February, it was a deliberate attempt to get the pound devalued. One of the main reasons was to try to help exports to try to boost the economy before the 2015 election. Causing uncertainty for the referendum was just an added bonus. Maybe this was his plan all along (well not his plan obviously, as it would need to somebody much smarter than him to come up with it) but it has just taken longer to happen than they expected?
