  1. All the injuries beginning to take their toll?
  2. Think Mebude will need a loan before he gets anywhere near a full cap
  3. Fleetwood were in 3rd tier and he was a regular and playing well by all accounts. At the time I think Gemmill was picking the likes of George Johnstone (Liverpool under 23s), Daniel Harvie MK Dons as well as other players not getting first team football. Said it at the time but it was scandalous that he was not picked
  4. To answer my own question a quick google search indicates that at least 1 Scots born player played for USA in the 1930 World Cup and they reached the semis. I wonder if anyone since then? Certainly can’t think of any since the 60s
  5. I’m guessing that will be the first time a Scots born player has made the Knock out stage of a World Cup? Him and Cummings. Any others ever?
  6. No surprise really. It was scandalous that he wasn’t selected. Will be Interesting to see where the CHs that were selected back then are now. No doubt Rangers or Celtic youth players (who had never been near a first team) who have since disappeared without trace. He was playing first team football for Ross County on loan and then Fleetwood on loan.
  7. Agreed. Looking forward to the 15% sell on fee. A big loss for Scotland in my opinion
  8. Agreed about Academy graduate but that is the phrase they use today certainly at Tannadice. In my day they were S signings
  9. Think the last one was Jackson Irvine. He was in Celtic youth system for about 3 years and played in last World Cup. Last Scot in Celtic youth system was Paul McStay in 1990 and for Rangers was Fleck and McPherson in 1990 also. Craig Moore, another Aussie was a Rangers youth and played in 2006 finals.
  10. Don’t think McGlinchey did play in 2010 and a quick check suggests no Celtic nor Rangers academy graduate played for Scotland in the 98 finals in any game. Remarkably you have to go back to 1990 for the last players to come through the Celtic or Rangers youth system to play in the finals, unless anyone knows otherwise. by the way Kevin Gallacher also played in the game with Dailly in 98 so he shares the accolade for Dundee United.
  11. With Dundee United and Hibs academy graduates, Harry Souttar and Jason Cummings playing for Australia, do we have to go back to 1998 for last players coming through academies in Scotland to play in World Cup? As a Dundee United fan, pretty certain last former United academy player before Souttar was Christian Dailly in 1998 with Billy McKinlay also featuring that year. What about other clubs? Any played since 1998? Recall Michael McGlinchey, who was in Celtic’s academy, playing for New Zealand but not sure if he played any games in World Cup finals?
  12. Before his ACL injury last season he was being quoted for a move to Spurs and £25m was being banded about. He is a decent player and hopefully he does get that big move because that means we get a big sell on fee! If he stays injury free he will be a big loss for Scotland
  13. Scot Gemmill was the fud…. For not picking him at under 21 level
  14. Agreed. Last time we won a game at a World Cup finals. For Sweden game got to Genoa early, found a Back street Chinese restaurant selling beer so spent most of the day there. Great day, better night
  15. Didn’t watch it but saw first game against Iceland and that was my criticism of Mebude. If he had been more selfish I’m sure they would have won that game.
  16. Did you watch the first half? Lowry and Barron very good and Smith played well too. Second half has been a different game. Disappointed with Hackney and Conway who are both regulars in championship down south and Morrison looked a bit poor with his distribution for a Bayern player
  17. Doak looks special. Fastest wide player I’ve seen since Ralph Milne 40 years ago. Could make first team squad in year or two at this rate. Lowry also very good and both Barron and Smith very good on the ball. Some decent talent. Not sure where he normally plays but the left back looks very uncomfortable and a bit out of his depth.
  18. Agreed on the striker front. Don’t think Brown is starting for Stoke but correct me if I’m wrong, when he does play, he is in midfield yet he was the only ‘forward’ we had on the bench! Has to be a back 4 going forward. Gilmour should not play until he gets a game at club football. Fraser is never a wing back. Amazed that Gordon played for 90 minutes. A bit of a pointless exercise all round.
  19. Lots slag the MLS but the USA has 9 MLS players in their World Cup squad (Sands and Tillman at Rangers didn’t make the squad) and I counted 2 or 3 in Uruguay’s. They would all likely be too good for our league apart from some for Celtic maybe . Bale plays there and no doubt there’s a few others in World Cup squads. Gauld was player of year for his team in the mLS. He’s playing at a good standard and was in the Portugal team of the season (only players from outwith the big 3 in that team). He is decent
  20. 4th Scotsman to score in Serie A in less than a year. Prior to Hickey scoring you had to go back 35 years for the last one.
  21. Decent? Long career certainly but got nowhere near to the level expected when he was Doak’s age now. Bit of a journeyman. He only played in Bundesliga 2 and think highest level in England was championship.
  22. Indeed. Mark Fotheri gham and Jack Aitchison played for Celtic at 16 (Aitchison scored) but what happened to them? Plenty others too. He does look good but let’s see him in a first team before getting too excited
  23. Arsenal fans on twitter suggesting it was tactical. The lad playing LB has good right foot to combat Sarah coming inside all the time rather than outside. Salah was hooked so I guess it worked?
  24. Domeracki and he’s at Tannadice. 15 year old who seems to be a regular in our under 18 side. Apparently Chelsea also keen. It seems that any decent youngster in Scotland now is moving south at 16/17
