Aaid, are you politely telling me I have been a naughty girl and have moved over to the side of capitalist pigs 🙄( rolling eyes with smile on my face ..) when all I wanted, on the only day of sun during my weeks holiday, was a one day escape from the 14 week imprisonment 😢 That is actually a good analogy 😊

Black Lives Matter... in Scotland
TDYER63 replied to exile's topic in Anything Goes - Other topics not covered elsewhere
No, like I said, I really cannot offer a better alternative, but I am not exactly a great visionary or political advisor. And yes, people who hold irrational views will always find a way to twist things, if it wasn't the name it would be something else. But the name of a movement in a sensitive and high profile subject such as this I think needs to be solid and not open to misinterpretation. Between all the violence , and irrational folk twisting things, balanced people are now starting to think ‘ well, white lives matter too not just black lives’. For me, the words that make up the name is fairly irrelevant, its how those words are spun that is the problem. -
Black Lives Matter... in Scotland

I think that is the crux of it. And the racists are taking advantage of that. I cant think of a better alternative off the top of my head , ‘Black Lives Matter Too’ is probably clearer , but it isn’t as snappy as BLM , and it sounds a little bit ‘needy’. The name is of no great concern to me either but it does seem to be important to a lot of people, mainly those who are trying to deflect from the underlying cause and stoke division. I just feel they could have perhaps found a name that was a bit less easy to manipulate. -
Black Lives Matter... in Scotland

I agree with this. ‘Black Lives Matter’ as a statement on its own is simple and true, but as a name for a movement that was tackling racism surely they must have realised it would lead to an outcry of ‘ white lives matter ‘ or ‘all lives matter’ . Maybe it was deliberate to draw attention to the subject, but if anything it seems to have created even more division. -
😂😂 CHAV ATTACK ! Wish I looked as chic as Mrs Brody on the beach. The hat is the only similarity. We took a wee wooden chair with us. Mr Tidy went for a paddle and I sat on the chair with my kindle, he said ‘ dont lean back its not very stable. ‘ I put it against the wall but after a while I was too warm so turned it away from the sun and sat back down. Next thing I am lying on my back , clinging to the arms of the chair with my legs splayed in the air and my dress at my waist . I was mortified. Folk around were sniggering. Thankfully there werent many. I tried to get up but its not that easy getting out of an upside down chair on the sand. I was writhing about going nowhere like a beached whale, my hat amazingly still firmly on my head.

😂 It was upright when I took it , Mr Tidy was going for a paddle . From what I could see there were busier sections than that , but everyone looked a fair distance apart , much more than 2 metres. I suppose we are less congested up here , but how anyone would choose to go to that beach in Bournemouth is beyond me.

The timing of the letters was admittedly poor, but its not like the rotas were drawn up the day before the letters were sent out. The preparation for for all this will have taken time , at a time when there were still too many people being infected to make a bold enough call to allow all kids back 5 days in August. Yes some work will have been done that may never be required , but I would rather have that then no alternative plan come August. The people that are moaning are moaning about the proposed original plan and the effort that has gone in . They are not moaning about the schools going back so this must be a positive change of direction. You may see it as a u turn , I think of u turns as completely back tracking on something . With this I see an effort having originally been made to get the kids back in August in a safe environment amidst an ongoing pandemic, to getting them back to normal schooling should the data be promising. I dont see that as a u turn , I see that as 2 completely different situations, however my interpretation of this may be flawed.

The thing is, just about every person and businesss in the entire country has been affected adversely by this. I have had to set up a foreign exchange dealing system in my home, with very limited IT skills as we always have IT people at hand in the office to help. I was working ridiculous hours. The first month I thought i was going to have a heart attack it was so stressful. There is no way I am alone in this. But at least I have a job , so many people are losing them . As much as I have a lot of sympathy for teachers as I know first hand how much they do ( my daughter is one) this really is unprecedented times and the extra work may be necessary. The other issues you mention may have validity, I am talking about this specific decision.

Completely agree. This virus is a moving target and things can change very quickly. The position we are in this week to what we were in last week is different and it will be different again next week. To have been unprepared for a resurgence of the virus would be totally irresponsible. If the country had been prepared with PPE we may not be in this position so you can hardly criticise them for trying to be ahead of the game on this occasion. People always seem to see changes as a weakness and indicative that the original decision was wrong. Personally I would rather have a government that will reconsider and adapt rather than plough on through regardless. Its not a U turn. The schools were always going to reopen, it is simply a change of direction dependent on the circumstances.

Furlough / Redundancy advice
TDYER63 replied to ThistleWhistle's topic in Anything Goes - Other topics not covered elsewhere
I am glad to hear you have a bit of a cushion if you dont pick up something immediately, or which may allow you to take your time looking for the right job. Still , no one likes losing their job unless they absolutely hate it or are at an age where they can comfortably retire. It says a lot about you that your concerns are for those less fortunate. All you can do , as you have said, is make it more difficult for the company and let them see you are not meekly accepting the decision. Your company’s loss will be your next employers gain. Good luck. -
I am on a weeks holiday and the weather looks shit so I might have a look . Do you have a link to the website ?

Furlough / Redundancy advice

Fairbairn I can only reiterate what thplinth has said. Everyone is aware of the consequences of Covid 19 on job losses, but , like the virus itself, it really only hits home when you hear of someone directly affected by it. The fact they are closing a profitable part of the company at a time like this when other sections are losing money beggars belief. Sadly I think there will be many companies using Covid as an excuse to make unnecessary cuts. Were the union involved? Not that it makes much of a difference , unions have such little power these days. Without giving too much personal information away, are your skills transferable to a different industry or service if need be ? -

Some folk just canny take compliments. Dave Lamb’s acerbic wit is the most entertaining part of the show and I offer it to you. I didnt even offer the part of Dave Lamb to Dave78, and his name is Dave ! -

Aye, Grumpy is too experienced , he can fIght it out with Killifaetheferry on TAMB Masterchef. And there no Grumpies allowed on TAMB Come Dine With Me. Talking of which ..... Course he meant it as humour. I am no being entirely serious myself . I was lining you up for the role of the voiceover guy, Dave Lamb, but you will need to cheer up a bit .
