  1. """"Kenneth I was the very same voted SNP at every election attended events in Edinburgh where Salmond stood with Fishermen defending our Industry The Ewings were a massive help to the fishing industry thru the decommissioning in the 90s but now Fishermen are being treated as 2nd class citizens Just last week I got a reply from Fergus Ewing stating the MPAs had a minimal effect on fishing communities ??? And folk like Stuart wonder why we speak out against the SNP it's disgraceful how there treating there own people""""
  2. This is a quote from a friens who live on the weat coast ,,,,honestly i am reading and trying to defend the snp but i just cant,,,,it is just so wrong "Well John, you know am anither SNP man, but even SNP MPS/MSPs I have as friends have not bothered replying to rants I have linked them to in, getting pretty disillusioned myself with the party stance on the fishing industry, its heads in the sand but hoping they do listen to other sectors worries after the west coast consultation closes, if not I fear that the only fishers that will continue voting for them will be creelers, an industry that is too unregulated supposedly the most enviromentally friendly yet look at the creel box wet of Torridon, lost its certification due to unsustainability two or three years ago but they have been tyring to claim more grounds for them selves with the expansion of Creel only areas, looks like they are being listened to by the SG when even yon eejit that wrote "End of the line" has praised the Scots trawlermen for their achievements in the Scottish part of the North Sea yet very little was heaard of that outwith the industry media outlets, its about time the POs started making a noise before the only quota they hold will be used by foreign vessels as no Scots boats will be able to fish due to so called green regs"
  3. Yes i am a member of scottish creel fishing federation but i still think this has been handled wrongly... Go onto fishing news on face book,,, every thread is about how bad the SG have handled the MPAS
  4. the black fish scandal of which every eu country is guilty of only involved the pelagic big guns who have enough money to buy their way out of trouble, its the locally owned family boats which have of late been forced to sell up in the last five years or so that gives me great concearn...don't get me wrong, the white fish fishermen of the 80's and early 90's did a lot of damage with the over fishing, selling quoats, slipper skippers ect..... Personally i would nationalise the quotas(which would infuriate many) and give out ten year liecence ,,,This is the only long term way of insuring young fishermen get a fair crack of the whip instead of big companies ir slipper skippers hiring out fish which was given out as free in the begining, it is a very coplex industry which is a tangled mess...
  5. Hope the the greens have no influnce on the next scottish parliment, they couldnt run a bath, just because they supported independence does not merrit a vote IMO
  6. The waters around our coast are the healthiest the have been in decades and yes i know that it is not the SG that dictates the quota allocation but there is very little in the way of support for the industry that if looked after will give employment forever... I disagree with you when you say it is not that big of an employer! When you take into account all the jobs which are directly or indirectly tied to it....Coming out of europe will be the best thing possible for the fishing industry there is no question about that... "Sensible, science based governance of the sea is all the sg aye implementing. " fishing is not a science its skill so if the research vessels have poor fishermen as skippers their science willl be flawed
  7. I can assure you that this is not the case,,, they control most of the industry, europe dictates what the quotas are and the marine scotland inforce this... The seas are not empty this also i can assure you,,, trawlers are having to steam hundreds of miles to avoid catching cod as they are so abundant and there are no qouta to land them... I own a small creel boat and am all for a mpa within a certain distance from shore but the way they are doing this is putting lively hoods and communities at risk, it should be implemented over a five year period or so.i am not totally against what they are away to do but their handling of it could be a lot betrer, the are isolating whole swaiths of our coastline who inturn are starting to detest the snp government
  8. The scottish goverenment have control basically over all the industry,,, although they are not allowed into the eu/norway fisheries talks... The whole treatment of the fishing industry seems strange to me, they wanted out the common fisheries policy and then over night changed their minds and think its the best thing ever..... Dont get me wrong the MPA's that they are away to be enforced have its supports within the industry, most being creel fishers and i can see the good it would do if done correctly but this will effect a lot of livelily hoods and turn a lot of people against the snp
  9. Yes he is still a supporter of independence, but is very disillusioned
  10. I know i have touched on this topic before but out of any industries in scotland the fishing industry of late seems to be getting a raw deal. The snp used to stand shoulder to shoulder with fishermen but from my stand point have been aba to please the green mob!!To be fair it is very complicated as miss managment from the early sixties have lasting and not very easily solved problems... The latest up roar has been with MPA's on the west coast which is very controversial.one of my long standing snp supporting freinds has just declared he will never vote for them again.. The fishermen are leaving the snp on mass and if not carefull it will be irreversible!!itbjust bugs the shit out of me how one minute the snp were all for the fishermen and then turn there back on them
  11. While over working at our offices in norway i was talking to an emloyee whom i thought was an expat and asked where in scotland he was from, he burst out lauging as he was born and bred in stavanger, he just picked up the scotish accent over the phone and from the many scots who regularly work with him. i am usually good with accents and couldnt believe he was not originally from scotland
  12. My primary school was very keen to promote doric as we had anual doric poem competitions, doric school plays ect... We had a study done on how we talked from the aberdeen university as our village is thought to talk the closest to "old doric" anywhere in the noth Scotland I remember my dide(grandfather) telling me that during the first war, people from the northeast who spoke doric tried to claim they were bilingual as you got more money if you spoke two languages, not sure how much truth there is to that... You still have people arguing doric is a language on its own
  13. I seen on the news a few days back that the scottish accent is dieing off a bit and being more diluted with english/american.I have a very stong doric dielect when most my age would have a tonned down version.Aberdonions used to speak doric, now they talk in a stange scotch/american/english strimash..Even peterhead locals are staring to "talk toonser" is this happening across scotland with the slow delusion of local accents? I love the veriaty of accents across scotland and would be very sad to see one dilutes scots accent across the whole of scotland
  14. They are dopped to the eye balls, it will all come out in the wash
  15. Because he will do a better job than obama and any other candidate in the running, lets face it he cant do any worse than obama,,, he is also entertaining
  16. His course at balmedie is brilliant, i have no problems at all with his interests in scottish golf, hope he becomes US president
  17. That was some night yesterday absolutely brutal but good at the same time,, it will go down in history as the best fight night ever
  18. From the late ninetees to maybe three years ago the fishermen were having big catches only a few miles off from fraserburgh to Nairn, there were boats making a lot of money from them, there were never much squid before so they put it down to global warming, the last few years they have been very scarce, hope they come on this summer as there are a lot of boats struggling
  19. Multiculturism at its finest, the naivety of the european immigration policy is breathtaking
  20. Do you think if salmond had pushed for a scots only referendum cameron would have agreed? It still leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth that had it been scots only that had voted we would have won the referendum, but it was still the tight thing to do to let everyone who resided in scotland vote With regards to the EU referendum for my area coming out of the EU would be beneficial, i would probably vote to come out of it saying that i would need to read more into it.if the uk voted to leave the EU it would be one less scare story against independence and would edge us closer to it.
  21. Thats the way it should be,, i personally would never tactically vote.
  22. That along with the fishing industry we have left, they are too busy trying to make restaurants/chippers ect use sustainable fish from Norway/iceland and Faroes when infact norway gets their fish from our waters and the other two fish the same stocks,,,,and dont get me started on the seals,,, they wonder why the salmon stocks are declining,,, they will mot be getting a vote from me thats for sure,, they backed independence so i have some repect for them but would hate yo see them have any clout
  23. Vote for what you want not what you dont, imo it defeats the purpose of voting
  24. With the success at the national GE is it so important that we replicate this at the acottish elections? Will anything less be seen as a failure? Also what is more important in everyones opinion scottish or national elections? Personally i would rather we do well in the Scottish elections
