  1. Another 90 min for S. Fletcher in a Marseille win. There would be much urination if this was a different player. I predict Scotland will benefit from this move, and I hope it's permanent.
  2. Perhaps, but he probably does need an extended break. Let's see how he looks in the Champions League qualifiers. If he can reproduce the form of 6 years ago, then fine.
  3. Harper will struggle for games if Brighton go up, as he's no first team experience and they'll be in a dog fight. A Motherwell or ICT would be just the job for him.
  4. If Brighton go up, Jack Harper could be a loan option for an SPFL side.
  5. I think there's arguments for and against. Warburton seems to train his defenders to deal quickly with the ball while retaining possession. That may increase his confidence on the ball - he can look hesitant in possession. That said, I don't think Rangers could get him.
  6. possibly so, but there's no doubt he's picked up an injury that's taken the edge off the physical side of his game (for at least two seasons). If it hasn't returned by the end of pre-season then his time is surely up for the national team. McGinn can go straight in to replace him.
  7. Martin, Hanley, Mulgrew, Tierney perhaps. D. Fletcher, McGinn and a plethora of nippy, skilful ones elsewhere.
  8. I've said plenty of times on here that he's not really a winger. If he's played more centrally the sky's the limit though. He has the touch, weight of pass and speed to play for anyone.
  9. I hope everyone is excited at the prospect of Barrie McKay playing for Scotland next year?
  10. Cathro would be interesting and good for player development. Warburton already showing the other managers how to play scintillating football without spending millions.
  11. Excellent today, as was Barrie McKay who proved he's ready for big games.
  12. every Scottish 16 year old perhaps...
  13. hard to say, the implication is he hasn't been applying himself up to now. Sounds a bit like another ex-Airdrie striker. Let's hope he's on the right track now.
  14. You can blame Jorg Albertz for that one.
  15. Agree with much of that, we were way short in quality by '98. 92 a different story.
  16. How many goals did Jim Leighton score?
  17. Durie was a good player for Scotland (especially in away games), mainly due to pace and power, but he wasn't better than Steven Fletcher. Gallacher wasn't better than Snodgrass. Dailly was no great shakes. Put it this way, I was lamenting the 80s in the late 90s.
  18. Agreed, although McAllister was a very effective player with less natural ability.
  19. The difference isn't that great between the 98 team and now. Sweden 92 was a very strong squad though, but was getting on a bit by 96. The likes of Snodgrass and S. Fletcher and a few others would still get in those squads. I do detect a rise in technical ability in our younger age groups which gives room for optimism. The likes of Tom Boyd, McKimmie, Darren Jackson, Duncan Shearer, Jim McInally were good pros but technically poor and amassed quite a few caps back then.
  20. since the SPFL avoided Armageddon, surely it would be great to have 16 or 18 teams so clubs don't have to play each other 4 times. We'd get two old firm games, the other clubs still get the same amount of visits from a big Glasgow team and they'd have a better chance of competing than if there were fewer teams playing 4 times a season. Also, hat off to Warburton for introducing the best style of football seen in Scotland for decades.
  21. going to Rangers doesn't seem to be too bad a move. Their manager has made it quite clear he wants a small squad where all the players are involved. The SPFL isn't a great standard for prospective internationalists but it's ok for 16-23 year olds.
