  1. The tories are producing a white paper, but I think it is along the lines of plan for leaving the eu. A hopeful wish list if you like. Anyone why the SNP member for Aberdeen south didn't vote?
  2. Sign the petition to stop Trump getting a state visit to the UK. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/171928 Sitting around 677,000 signatures at the moment. Apologise if it has been posted before.
  3. Maybe the same type of Scots we have nowadays that suck up to the London establishment, the heart of the British empire, with a fawning eagerness.
  4. I think what is going here is that the Scottish government manage the fishing area in its territory, but when it comes to negotiations with the eu on quotas etc, It is the uk government who is responsible. "Holyrood manages rural development, agriculture, forestry, and natural heritage. The Scottish government also aims to influence the UK government in Europe on issues such as fisheries, although it has no formal role in international negotiations" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-12849111
  5. Is it not the case that inshore fishing, 12 nautical miles of the coast line, is devolved, but anything beyond that, deep sea fishing, is still a westminster issue?
  6. Like your fisher friends want assurances now on what's looking increasingly like a betrayal from westminster government? In all taxes there are winners and losers. Over 100,000 small businesses in Scotland who pay less that £10k a year in business rates will now be exempt from paying any business tax at all.
  7. The funny thing is that, at the moment, the uk exports more to Ireland than we do to India. India will be looking to send all it's cheap stuff over here, as well as a good portion of its population, but take very little in return. The uk Government thinks it's going to have the best of both worlds with un-stifled trade with the eu and the rest of the world. There will be strings attached to all the trade deals the uk have to do with the rest of the world as wellas the eu.
  8. Maybe these links will help you and your employer. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-34546277 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-34549816 https://www.mygov.scot/business-rates-guidance/ I don't know if the local rates are now set by the SG or the local authority via the local assessor as things have changed. Your boss maybe entitled to a rebate from the SG he obviously hates so much. By all accounts Local authorities, unions and even the business community like the new system and all monies raised in the area stays in that area. Seems that you've got a lot of educating to do in your community.
  9. Yes, I've noticed the new sound bite phrase 'global Britain' being banded about often enough. Yes she stutters, pauses too much and gives the impression that she's been caught out. Corbyn is a poor leader and can be susceptible to easy ridicule. He's never going to be the PM. I agree with your assessment. On the other hand. Political Scrapbook‏@PSbook Whoever writes Angus Robertson's questions at #PMQs - give him/her a medal. Always on point RETWEETS17 LIKES33 4:17 AM - 18 Jan 2017 e
  10. The trickle has started. HSBC, UBS to shift 1,000 jobs each from UK in Brexit blow to London http://uk.reuters.com/article/us-davos-meeting-hsbc-idUKKBN1520SO
  11. Iv'e got to say that the small clip I seen of Corbyn today he did have her on the ropes. So did Angus Robertson.
  12. Maybe things like this have got them afraid. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04c0c7y?ns_mchannel=social&
  13. I don't think it's only yes voters who think this. Sandhill (Sunderland) result: LDEM: 45.0% (+41.5) LAB: 25.0% (-29.9) UKIP: 18.7% (-7.2) CON: 10.0% (-5.7) GRN: 1.3% (+1.3) Ignore the libdem part. http://www.libdemvoice.org/massive-lib-dem-swing-to-gain-sunderland-council-seat-from-labour-52954.html
  14. Richard Adams the author of watership down has also died today. Edit. Correction; Christmas eve.
  15. I'm sure places outside of the central belt will be happy to hear that. Maybe to defend against right wing nut jobs who support rangers?
  16. Not much to argue about there. Fighter jets, maybe the wrong description there, nowadays are capable of carrying out multi roles now, like air to air combat as well as ground attacks with guided missiles. They go armed with a variety with weapons.
  17. Fighter jets, attack helicopters, anti tank missiles and artillery are just as, if not, more effective. Do you mean smaller scimitar type tanks dropped from planes? The great tank battles of the wars have been on vast open plains, Sahara, Kursk etc. Scotland doesn't have that type of terrain. I can see the sense in having some smaller type tanks in an Independent Scotland, but not huge numbers.
  18. I've no idea why Scotland would need tanks in a defensive role, unless England were to attack. On another thought. I'm sure Alan is happy that we are paying more to the MoD for less jobs.
  19. Walter Swinburn also died today. 2016 has been some year for the celebs. Celebrities will be glad to see the back of 2016.
  20. Christians have come a long way, or have they? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/theresa-may-trident-debate-nuclear-bomb-yes-live-latest-news-a7143386.html
  21. Depends how you look at it. The crown estate own Buck hoose. So effectively the reigning monarch does own it.
