  1. Murray being true to his word of playing very little tennis for the rest of the year. Didn't defend his title in Shenzen this week - although that wasn't a surprise as the main reason he played last year was to gain ranking points and qualify for the Tour Finals - however, did expect him to play a 500 in Beijing or Tokyo next week in preparation for the Shanghai Masters. Only Federer out of the other top 10 players isn't playing next week. I guess it's a fine line between resting and maintaining competitive match sharpness. I do expect him to play some tournament between Shanghai and the Paris Masters.
  2. The ATP have confirmed that the Tour Finals are mandatory - he'll have to compete in both (if fit). His body will be well attuned for the O2, as there are only hard court tournaments left this season, but certainly a problem for the Davis Cup with little time to prepare.
  3. This. I've always rated him, but he's surpassed all expectations and his versatility is a bonus. No idea how we managed to persuade him to sign - great piece of business.
  4. A team GB football team doesn't and will never exist, so let's deal with reality. I feel nothing for team GB - and even less for the British state - If there were no Scots involved, I wouldn't care if they win, lose or draw. My view also applies to other sports where Scots have to compete under the GB banner - they will always get my support. One of my best sporting memories is sitting in front of the TV watching Rhona Martin's GB rink win Olympic Gold in 2002 - you would obviously have been willing Sweden during that match. In the absence of Scottish teams in many sports, Scots (whether nationalist or unionist) have no choice but to compete under the only banner available. I think they deserve our support, you don't - fair enough, we'll have to disagree. I hope Murray retains his Olympic title next year, but feel free to cheer on Djokovic or Federer or whoever else he meets along the way.
  5. True, but a higher ranking and the resultant seeding / easier draw, could be the difference between winning a major trophy or not. Anyway, surprised this is an issue - Murray can and should play both. Has any other top player ever skipped the World Tour Finals for the Davis Cup?
  6. Tremendous viewing and Andy deserves a long rest after that! Can't understand how any Scot could cheer on the opposition when two guys from Dunblane are playing. Personally, Murray is a sporting hero of mine and I want him to win every match he plays - whether that be on the ATP tour, in the majors, representing team GB in the Davis Cup or representing team GB at the Olympics - were fellow Scots really wanting Switzerland to win that final in London? As far as the Davis Cup final is concerned, Belgium are right to maximise their chances and play on clay. However, Murray would be foolish to miss the ATP Finals. The tour finals should be his priority - the ranking points on offer (not to mention the huge amount of prize money) could be the difference between number 2 and 3 ranking for the start of next season.
  7. Characters: 1. The Man with No Name 2. Darth Vader 3. Vito Corleone 4. The Terminator 5. Rocky Balboa
  8. Isn't this separate to the pantomime of last week? Relating to Whyte's original takeover as opposed to what went on when Green gained control of the assets...
  9. With his form gong into this tournament, really expected Andy to have a great chance of the title. No idea what's gone wrong as he's been unconvincing the whole week, not just yesterday and although Anderson is awkward like most big hitters, Murray usually finds a way to overcome this type of opponent. From watching the post-match press conference, Andy's taking this one hard and has indicated that he'll probably only be playing the mandatory tournaments for the rest of the year which probably isn't a bad thing. Certainly capped off a sh!te few days of sport!!!
  10. No. At the start of each campaign I have hopes of qualification. Qualification almost certainly means taking 12/12 point from the weakest two teams in the group - we have failed. Both Poland and ROI will achieve this and will therefor finish 2nd and 3rd in our group. Simples.
  11. It just gets easier and easier for Djokovic. Nadal and Ferrer, as well as Raonic, drop out of his half of the draw. He now doesn't have to face a top 8 opponent en-route to the final. Definitely looks like Nadal is finished at the very top.
  12. Thought that would have been much easier and will obviously have taken a lot out of him. Really needs a quick match or two in the next couple of rounds, before the quality of opponent really steps up. In contrast, Federer strolls into the third round after only 80 minutes on the court for the second match in a row. All of the seeds still in Andy's section of the draw, so route to the title remains - Bellucci -> Anderson -> Wawrinka -> Federer -> Djokovic.
  13. Spent a day and night there after the game in Dortmund last year and wish I hadn't. Cologne and Dusseldorf are both far better for a stag do and only an hour or so on the train from Frankfurt (if you're flying into there).
  14. Major shock as Nishikori loses in the first round. Makes it even easier for Djokovic to reach the final.
  15. Definitely lose - if there was no prize money involved, I'd want them to win. The co-efficient argument is bogus also. Two coefficient points are awarded for a win in the Europa League - the same as in the Champions League - where the opposition will be of a lower quality making wins easier. This should more than offset any bonus coefficient points that are awarded for getting to the latter stages of the CL.
  16. Correct and Fed is currently one set up and a break up in the second.
  17. No complaints, Federer was better on the day and his return of serve (particularly 2nd serve) was key. A Federer win tomorrow and he's back to Nr 2.
  18. Djokovic through to the final, albeit not as straightforward as he'd have hoped. Murray v Federer on soon.
  19. They are extremely tough - this one in particular as it's consecutive to Canada and then only a weeks break before the U.S. open. 10 years or so ago, the final in each masters event was 5 sets, but the current system is fairer as the modern game is much more physical. Can't feel sorry for them though as the prize money in these tournaments gives decent reward - over $700k for the winner tomorrow.
  20. Fair play to him for that! Didn't see any of the tennis yesterday, but appears to have been an entertaining day - Murray saving a match point and Djokovic coming from two breaks down in the deciding set of his match. Nadal still struggling and bowing out. Murray up against Gasquet in the QF today.
  21. Troicki lost his opener against Mardy Fish, who'll now play Murray in the R32 - probably tomorrow.
