jock strap
Like to visit war memorials / sites etc when travelling and have got the spare time to do so. Been looking into potential tours in Bratislava and surrounding areas but generally struggling to find any. Anyone got any info or recommended places to look at ? Last time I was in Bratislava, it was a total beer fest so fancy a bit of culture on the spare day I have. Any advice appreciated
wubbs
I live in Bratislava and not found a huge amount of war stuff. Still investigating though.. Slavin war memorial is dedicated to the Soviet soldiers who liberated the city from the Nazis. There is a military cemetery and bunker to the south of the city. http://www.bunker.bs8.sk/2015/08/27/facebook-novinky/

Rich NATA
It's reassuring to know I'm not the only miserable sod interested in such stuff I haven't done any homework on Slovakia yet, but try these websites... http://www.memorialmuseums.org/europe http://en.tracesofwar.com/ http://www.euro-t-guide.com/X_See_Coun_1.htm I only recently learned that visiting somewhere where bad things have happened (whether it be Auschwitz or the site of the World Trade centre) has a name; it's called 'Dark Tourism'. Here's a site, which might cover some war sites in Slovakia... http://www.dark-tourism.com/index.php/18-main-menus/mainmenussubpages/603-the-concept-of-dark-tourism
