  1. A couple of years ago I would’ve said yes with Kiltie and Frizzell coming through but they have disappeared. Always thought Kiltie was a good talent. Yeah never been impressed by Scott Wright. Ethan Ross not been in and about the first team squad as well?
  2. Rangers and Hearts are a great example of what is wrong within the Scottish game regarding the development of homegrown players. Middleton was getting used regularly at the beginning of the season but in recent months has disappeared off the radar.....for who....f**king Grezda!! McCrorie in and out the team despite impressing nearly every time he plays! Hearts have reduced Cochrane and McDonald, who were standouts last year, to a squad-filler and a loanee! Yeah there are consistency issues at that age, but you cannot tell me that the players they have brought in have improved the team. Its just seems like the easy option to drop young players because there isn’t the same pressure to play them as there is the average-at-best journeymen on higher wages! I believe the main issue with the national team, and has been for a long time, is the limited first team opportunities our homegrown players get. It’s the only way they will develop, and the reason we end up scouring the lower leagues in England for any player that has got a Scottish ancestor! Aberdeen - Ferguson, Campbell, McLennan, McKenna Celtic - Tierney, McGregor, Forrest, Christie Motherwell - Hastie, Turnbull, Campbell Examples of players amongst the best players at their clubs, all homegrown and given opportunities to shine and taking it. Gives all those teams identity and makes them far more exciting to watch.
  3. Was just scrolling through a Man Utd forum........some fans just can’t accept that McTominay might be a very good player.
  4. It’s been mentioned on here a few times, but it hasn’t done Wales any harm.
  5. Robertson’s assist....then that block in the second half....as good as a goal!🙌🏼 Best left back in the EPL.....and he’s only gonna get better!
  6. There is where our opinion differs slightly. I don’t believe McTominay is particularly skilful, I would describe him as a SAFE player (not a criticism), a player with good touch and is assured on the ball....which is not the case with McGinn..... we all witnessed that against the likes of Belgium and Portugal.😱 I actually like Christie and McGregor (in a deeper role), and I also think Armstrong has the ability to influence games more. Kenny McLean, McDonald, Shinnie definitely not up to that standard.
  7. I think the Championship is still very kick and rush....which suits a player like McGinn....it’s why he stands out, and the fans love him because he is all action and puts himself about. But, for me, he’s not a good enough footballer to make an impact at international level, would rather have McTominay in there. Won’t be long till we see Gilmour in about the full squad.....now there is a proper footballer!👌🏼

    Next Manager?

I would too, he’s been working with with the age groups for a few years now and knows the players coming through. I actually thought the game we played with Malky Mackay in charge was refreshing and we played some good attractive football.

    Next Manager?

Would you consider Scott Gemmill as National manager?

    Next Manager?

Absolutely would be up for Fletcher as manager.... the ultimate professional who has played under one of the greatest football managers that has ever lived, always presents himself well and would command the respect of the players....and above all HE IS A WINNER!
  11. Think we need to cut the 19s some slack....today was always going to be tough, it’s been a good qualifying campaign, just so disappointing the way it’s ended. And with the 17s and 19s, they still need to get through a qualifying group to get to the elite groups, so they are most definitely not amongst the worst! Wouldn’t exactly call it a full strength u21s squad either. The footballing gods have definitely got it in for the Tartan Army the now though!
  12. Bit harsh on Billy Stark, I think he’s done a good job with the Scotland age groups. Whatever happens this evening, the u19s have shown they have got the ability. The Turkey win was a great result, and Cyprus got to the elite qualifying round through merit, so they won’t be a bad side either. As for the under 17s, they aren’t as strong as the u19s, but I was at the game on Saturday and even though they played most the game with 10 men (arguably our best midfielder harshly got sent off for a last man challenge) against a decent Russian side, they knocked about the ball well and missed a few chances to get back into the game. The goalie had a shocker! Not to mention Scotland started with 2 15 year olds and brought another one on.
  13. It absolutely would have made a difference, Fletcher is far superior player to McBurnie, and if Fraser had got into some of the positions Burke had got into early in the game, we would have created more.
  14. Even more frustrated sitting through this Northern Ireland game...... lack of quality and some very limited players, but getting the job done by showing a bit of desire and organisation....
  15. McFadden has got too much to say..... noticed it at Hampden a couple of times..... Has he even got a coaching badge???
  16. Burke isnt a good enough footballer. Athlete, yes, but lacks the game intelligence...... the reason why he never made it in Germany and struggled to impact the Championship.
  17. Yeah we lack real quality, but man-for-man this Scotland team should be able to get a result against Kazakhstan...... this is down to poor organisation and primitive tactics playing right into their hands! Am disgusted how much these players have just downed tools in this match
  18. I blame that f**kin Del Amitri song..... just been failure after failure since then....🤷‍♂️
  19. Yeah 2 shots on target two goals for Portugal🤷‍♂️
  20. Yeah Turkey defeated England at the end of last year. Burroughs plays for Coventry.....also qualifies to play for England though🙄
  21. That should perk Chripper up a bit..... for a couple hours anyway!😜 Great result.....notice there’s some good strength in depth as well..... the likes of Cochrane, Dean Campbell and Aitchison on the bench👌🏼
  22. For those interested, Scotland u17s take on Portugal in the first game of Elite Qualifying, 6pm kick off tonight at St.Mirren Park. Tough group, but I encourage you to go watch the way the kids try to play.
  23. Jack Harper I think....signed a pre-contract with Getafe
  24. Think we will have enough in the team to take maximum points over the two games..... would’ve called up Brophy and Jack though.
  25. I think last night was a great snap shot of the good and bad of modern day football! A raw academy player, thrust into first team football backed by a manager on a downward spiral, but failing to win over the clubs fans.... ”not good enough” “out of his depth” “not fit for the jersey” amongst other condemnations after just a handful of first team games. Academy players, the ones that know what it means to play for the club, the ones who have trained with aspired to play on the same pitch as the first team superstars, are too quickly written off.......where as players bought for tens of millions on hundreds of thousands a week are given chance after chance! McTominay has still got a long way to go to win over the Man Utd fans, but after last night I am seeing more and more positive comments including “proud of him” and “he’s one of our own”. Ole has stuck to the SAF blueprint which was so successful, and even though I am aware of the injury problems Man Utd have, the kids have been given their chance...and they have flourished, culminating in one of their best European results in modern times, against a club with 100s of millions pumped into them. You could see how much it meant to McTominay last night! Really hope he kicks on from here.....and becomes a big player for Scotland as well!
