  1. Ain't that the truth! The English are very proud of inventing the Web. Who'da'thunk doing so would directly lead to them losing the northern part of their empire
  2. "Daily Mail editor Paul Dacre owns 18,000 acres near Ullapool" FFS
  3. I have it on good authority that a high-heid-yin in the Yes campaign is going to offer a free stay in his holiday home in Skye to all Yes voters.
  4. Tonight is the first time in the whole campaign that i'm starting to have doubts... All of the Nawbags big guns are being fired. A Tory PM on his knees begging us to stay (Scotland might hate the Tories, but nobody wants to kick a man when he's down). 'Scottish' banks/pension companies confirming they will relocate south if there's a Yes vote. The 24hr news channels spinning the BT message like there's no tomorrow... Worrying. If Scotland bottles it from here...well....
  5. I've been watching how the Irish state broadcaster's TV news has been covering the debate, and like you say there's a definite similarity to the London media in the coverage. I suspect the Irish government are privately against the idea of an independent Scotland. Opens up a new headache in the North, and also provides new competition to the Irish economy which is heavily reliant on Foreign Direct Investment. The political class over here are well aware that the SNP plan to cut corporation tax to try and attract the multinationals.
  6. He's an excellent historian. Just completely blinded by his British nationalism over the independence debate.
  7. Ferguson was fantastic. It's hilarious watching all these 'proud Scots' panic.
  8. He was mimicking your accent, that's all. As a Scot living in Dublin i get it from time to time from pals, and i certainly don't find it "insulting". Just good natured banter. As for stereotypical comments, you need to look no further than FAI boss John Delaney's comments about 'Scots loving money' when discussing the venue for the Glasgow match.
  9. Just watching a documentary on Ya Choob, and this bit jumped out at me: http://youtu.be/N1l3F6n8i-A?t=17m32s I wonder if Curtice still sticks by his asseration (from a year ago admittedly) that the Yes campaign "twittering" and "knocking on peoples doors" won't be enough to win the day?
  10. Is the other poll due to be released a Panelbase one? It will show a bigger Yes lead... surely?
  11. Cheers... nah i hadn't seen... CBA with twitter! Great news!
  12. Need 35% in the borders to acheive 50.1% if the voting follows the 1997 results. See this post from WibbleWobble: "This may help. The following table shows, the time of declaration from the 1997 referendum (add a bit on to get the estimated time for this month's vote due to the higher turnout), name of authority, size of electorate (from 2011) and (importantly) the percentage required to secure a Yes 50.1% vote based on a weighting from the 1997 referendum and the 2011 Holyrood election. So Yes should be aiming for over 55% in Glasgow but 35% in Dumfries and Galloway is still within range for Yes to secure a nationwide Yes vote. So assuming that Clackmannanshire and South Lanarkshire are first to declare, we should be looking at around 53% Yes from those two authorities to put Yes on track for victory. My understanding is that the vote will be announced by each local authority as the votes are counted so no need to wait until the entire country has been counted before we find out the result. We should have a good idea of the winner by around 3.00am I think. 00:41 Clackmannanshire 38,825 54.1 00:50 South Lanarkshire 249,127 52.1 01:49 West Lothian 131,107 55.4 01:54 Orkney 16,950 39.5 01:59 Renfrewshire 130,992 47.6 02:11 Na h-Eileanan Siar 22,274 62.5 02:15 Moray 69,747 53.6 02:20 Dundee 106,775 58.5 02:27 East Renfrewshire 69,447 41.6 02:31 South Ayrshire 90,843 44.9 02:37 East Lothian 78,179 48.6 02:44 Dumfries and G 117,617 35.2 02:53 Falkirk 116,495 56.9 02:57 Stirling 66,483 49.7 03:02 Perth and Kinross 112,324 49.0 03:05 Edinburgh 344,852 44.3 03:09 Midlothian 65,024 52.1 03:13 Shetland 17,845 41.6 03:17 W Dunbartonshire 68,501 53.1 03:21 Inverclyde 61,605 50.4 03:27 Angus 87,428 51.0 03:32 Glasgow 472,545 55.8 03:36 Fife 283,429 48.1 03:40 Scottish Borders 90,422 38.6 03:46 East Ayrshire 96,330 56.0 03:50 North Ayrshire 109,330 54.1 04:07 North Lanarkshire 255,865 54.9 04:13 Aberdeen 167,544 46.4 04:16 East Dunbartonshire 82,032 46.8 04:20 Aberdeenshire 193,636 46.9 04:27 Argyll and Bute 68,586 49.3 05:44 Highland 181,047 50.8"
  13. After the posts above, and the 'daring to dream' fred, i can always count on Flure posting something that gets me confident again!
  14. English friend of my parents from Sunderland who was always vehemently No (my Mum and Dad once had a silly drunken fall-out with him over it all (he came out with Daily Mail commenter type stuff)) posted on Facebook yesterday that he's voting Yes. I sent him the 'English Scots For Yes' facebook group link, which he's now sharing stuff from. About as damsacene conversion as you could get.
  15. I meant have no other option to win back momentum. Maybe it's their hail-mary pass/gamble button/nuclear option?
  16. Makes sense if they have no other option (which they don't). Everyone expected Salmond to wipe the floor with Darling in the first debate, and he didn't. The Nawbags might be willing to risk sending Cameron up as a last throw of the dice.
  17. All massively popular political leaders get called dictators by their opponents. Start at 5m 40secs in.... http://youtu.be/8w4PoQbgUiA?t=5m40s
  18. They were beside themselves with excitement. Actually, it might have been apoplectic swivel-eyed rage, but at least they're engaging in the debate
  19. I heard on a well trusted forum (think it was called Rangers Media or something) that after Salmond proclaims himself El Presidente For Life, he's going to have a massive sculpture of his head carved into the side of Ben Nevis - a bit like Mt. Rushmore in America. I heard he also plans an official 'We Love The Leader' day, with marches and flypasts etc.
  20. Got the usual daily market analysis email from the forex company i use regularly. This bit was interesting... "Sterling sells off over Scottish Independence fears 3 September 2014Sterling sold off heavily yesterday morning amid concerns over the Scottish referendum vote scheduled for 18 September. The latest YouGov poll has revealed that the gap between the No and the Yes vote has narrowed markedly. The poll showed the No vote still leads at 53 per cent to 47 per cent for the Yes vote, but that reveals a narrowing of 8 points from the 14-point lead just a month ago. The poll overshadowed the better than expected economic data released yesterday from the UK construction sector, which showed the strongest growth for seven months in August. Most analysts still expect Scotland to remain in the UK but the uptick in the "Yes vote" for independence has unnerved the markets due to the uncertainty that the move to independence would mean for the UK."
