  1. Im not a fan of VAR for things that arent factual however it probably gets many more things right than it does wrong. That being said I think we are now at the stage where the audio of the ref needs to be played real time as trust is being lost.
  2. Morata saying it would be good to see Haaland getting to the Euros. Hopefully he just doesnt know that the only way that can happen is if Spain lose on Sunday. The 2nd goal is really bad for us as Spain effectively qualified tonight in 1st plaxe tonight. Even a 1 goal defeat would have left them with something to play for.
  3. Did they put the offside lines up on the TV? Normally they show that if its an offside. SFA match report has it noted as being offside. I wonder if the ref said anything to the players.
  4. There should be a minimum of 3 host nations qualified regardless of how they do it. Under such circumstances it surely can not be allowed or even faciliated for England to play all home games at Wembly unless Scotland played all at Hampden and Wales at Millenium etc. Logistically that couldnt work. Id actually rather go watch Scotland play elsewhere anyway.
  5. Nobody is saying that upsets dont happen when Team A beats team B it makes them a better team overall however you are making out like the Saudi players are pub league standard. Upsets dont happen on that level. Clearly the main attraction is money however thats what the EPLs main attraction has been for the last 30 years. Do you think the likes of Jay Jay Ococha, Anelka or Dycorff (awful spelling) always dreamed of playing for Bolton? Some Saudi clubs date back to rhe 1920s. Just because they dont have history that we know about doesnt mean that they dont have history. Professional athletes are generally determined winners, thats part of the reason they made it pro so they wont be winding down. They will still want to win. To put it in context, outside of the Old Firm do you think any of the other Scottish teams could beat the top 6 Saudi teams? Jack Hendry will be playing with and against much better players than John Soutter every week but nobody bats an eye at his inclusion.
  6. The local saudi players beat Argentina at the world cup!!! Slightly the wrong sife of 30 means nothing when you are talking about the best players for the biggest countries. Do you think Hendry will have a harder time against Neymar or Martin Boyle?
  7. I see the SFA have also said that they would like us to qualify in the usual manner, the same as England said yesterday. The difference being that England will 100% qualify whereas at best our qualification is dependent on a variety of facfors. I can see the SFA doing something noble but stupid and giving the 2 auto qualification slots to the 2 lowest ranked teams.
  8. Tweaks and upgrades rather than anything substantial to Hampden according to the SFA
  9. Just read that Wembly will likely get both semis and the final. Utter joke of a bid. The other associations need to get a spine. Wembly has literally just had both semis and a final of the Euros. Hampden should get a semi and Wales the final. Only reason either Ireland shouldnt get the opener or a semi etc is the stadiums arent big enough.
  10. Personally id have prefered a Celtic bid. 10 stadiums are required. Wales x 2 (Cardiff and Swansea) Northern Ireland x 1 ROI x 3. (Dublin and 2 x GAA anywhere else in the country Scotland x 4 (Hampden, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen) It could have been done but would have required much more investment as there would have been a good few upgrades and new builds. I like the idea of shared tournaments but only for countries who arent big enough to have 10 stadiums on their own. One of the main things I dont like about this is that England could have easily hosted alone. Another thing that I dont like about this is that Scotland will 100% the the worst deal. Wales are already being vocal about hosting the opening game. That is likely as the national stadium is 70k and Wales havent hosted any Euros games before. Northern Ireland are getting a new stadium. No doubt Ireland will want some of the big games so will get at least 1 semi final and of course Wembly will get the final. Hampden will get zero done to it.
  11. Thanks Aaid and Ally Bongo. I like reading and watching stuff about History but have never really looked into anything pre WW2. Its seems to be a total mess and part of the problem is that the issue isnt about land mass etc, its particuar parts of land that both sides require due to religious significance. In that scenario its almost impossible to find a solution. An additional problem is that one side has all the money and power so therefore has little to gain by entering negotiations.
  12. My knowledge on the pre war history of that part of the world isnt great but why did the jewish people not have a home nation before WW2? I can understand world leaders wanting to create a jewish state after what happended to them during WW2 but why were the jewish people spread all over the world and not in a Jewish state in the 1st place?
  13. Im not missing your point. I fully understand your position however the entire point of the law is to one day decide what is right and wrong. To use an extreme example the use of the N word used to be common place and acceptable until one day some people and by extension the law decided that it wasnt. Some people continue to use the word to this day, they argue about the meaning of its use and try and justify if by providing examples of where others use it. Ie in rap songs however that doesnt change the fact that its considered illegal. Now before anybody jumps on the above, in no way shape or form am I equating the N word and the word Hun. I honestly couldnt tell you the posters names as I dont seem to either have the attention to detail nor the want to remember the particulars of every poster on here. Nor do I want to go back and search to find out however im sure you will be able to remember the conversations. I understand you to be an Aberdeen fan, im presumming that dont live in west of Scotland although I could be wrong. I was born here and see daily how the use of language affects communities. Ive sat on hate crime boards where things that seem trivial to you and me have a real impact on peoples lives. You might equate the term hun purely with Rangers fans but as we have seen above others have seen it used for anybody with a unionist leaning, or presumed proddy background. The fact schools are seperated aged 5 here means that anybody from 1 school is easily called a fenien and anybody from the other school is called a hun. Regardless of whether they have ever been in a church or support either side of the OF. Many of my friends have been called Huns despite being fans of East Fife Dumbarton, Hearts, Partick or in my case Airdrie. Likewise many of my friends have been called feniens despite not supporting Celtic. Its the easy and quick termonology thats used to identify and low level insult thats the bigger issue. Not whether some arsehole Rangers fan falsely claims he is offended by it as a way to one up the other side of the city. The fact Ramy, an openly "90 minute" bigot is agreeing with you should at least give you cause to pause and consider.
  14. Lots of posters said I wasnt correct and told me to provide evidence of cases where the term hun was used in a legal context. Something that I repeatedly explained couldnt be done until a situation like this came about. Now hopefully we can all just accept what the law is even if we disagree with it. If posters want to continue to use such language thats up to them. Perhaps a good question should be why is it so important to continue to use the word? Is it not all abit childish?
  15. I question the law all the time. All ive ever done on here is state my experience and was repeatedly told that I was lying, told to produce caselaw etc when it came to this issue from people who dont or wouldnt accept that in general summary cases are not reported. It takes a specific appeal point for it to possibly get to the point of a stated case which is whats happened here.
  16. The thing with the law though is that a statement doesnt have to be true to be either offensive or attract an aggravation. Ie If I call somebody an English C*nt but that person is actually Welsh, it makes no difference. It would still be a S38 (BOP) with a racial aggravation. Its the presumption that matters. For example if somebody calls a Hearts fan a Hun because he is carrying a Union Jack, singing GSTK, singing bigoted nonsence etc then what the court is saying is that the person calling them a hun is presumming that they are of a particular religious group. Ie Proddy. Whether that persons ever been in church or not is irrevent. What I would say is that the primary focus of the Police and courts should be cutting out the bigoted bile that is common place in Glasgow every week. The attitude of the courts in particular towards songs at football has alot to be desired.
  17. You must be being very selective about your memory of my posting history then as ive condemed the stuff Rangers fans and Hearts and Airdrie fans sing on many an occasion. Ive said many times on here that imo Rangers fans are the worst in Scotland for their behaviour. Im not sure how correcting people when they have incorrectly stated that the word hun has never been part of court cases is me enabling anything. I dont decide the law, all ive done is provide information on how its implemented. Im not personally offended by the word hun in the same way im not personally offended by the word fenien however I do think that their use is not nessesary. Your and other peoples argument falls down when you say Hun is a term for Rangers fans and nothing to do with anything else but then say it also applies to Hearts and Airdrie fans because of the songs they sing. (The songs they sing being bigoted / religious). These teams are connected by their cultural and religious beliefs, certainly on the part of the most vocal and distasteful parts of their support. Using the same word to describe them is sensible as imo they are all the same however the similarity is that they are all bigots, not all Rangers fans. Anyway, the appeal courts have now published a stated case so everybodys opinion on here is irrelevent.
  18. Came across it on the appeals website and thought id share given peoples views in the past. Beyond that ive no real interest other than confirming that the law has always considered it to go beyond being a Rangers fan
  19. Had this discussion a load of times where numerous posters have said the term wasnt illegal or sectarian and pointed to the lack of cases in the press without understanding that summary cases generally arent reported and dont get written judgements etc. For those interested there has been a recent appeal decision. David Di Pinto v PF Glasgow
  20. Difference between the Taylor situation and Jack is that we have alternatives such as Doig for his positon. Jack is the best holding midfielder we have. Hickey is a full back and Souttar a centre back. Not saying they couldnt play holding mid but equally theres no evidence that they can and qualifiers arent normally the place to experiment.
  21. I still think Lammers could come onto a really good game but he defo isnt producing at the moment. He has great feet, can move the ball quickly and has all the attributes to be a success in Scotland however he seems to be really slow to take advantage of any good work he does. Ie when he rounded Hart, he did the hard part and then was really slow doing the 2nd part. Some good coaching might help him with that. Dessers is awful and any team that Wright starts in isnt going to be a success. Really think Rangers should go 532 with Goldson in the middle, Soutter and King either side, moving into midfield like Scotland do. That formation would allow for Sima to play on the right and Yilmaz on the left. Allows 2 up top and an attacking mid.
  22. Having watch non OF teams in Europe in recent years there is something that always stands out. Regardless of the level of opposition they really struggle to break teams down and create chances. So often our sides appear to be on top in games and somehow end up losing a goal. Even tonight, Aberdeen were totally on top but their goal came from a defensive mistake. An easy reason would be to say that its the standard of attacking players however I dont think thats the case. I believe that the style of football in Scotland is so different that teams simply cant adjust. By that I mean that if you want most non OF games in Scotland they tend to be quite high paced, combative and this ends up leaving spaces that are exploited to score goals. The minute teams dont play that style our teams have no idea what to do.
