  1. They can but Taylor like Marshall and O'Donnell is a trusted stalwart of Clarke.
  2. Wright starts for Rangers against Malmö Patterson, Kelly, McCrorie, Lowry and Hogarth on the bench.
  3. It's if Rangers make the champions league group stages this season and win the league. The figure is quite exaggerated though. Even with gate receipts the figure is probably closer to £60 million than £80 million.
  4. I'm still surprised we aren't giving a half bottle of glen's as a MOTM reward.
  5. I'm still baffled why anyone thought it was a good idea to partner with a league sponsor called Cinch. Cinch as in easy to do I mean I genuinely don't think you could get a worse name to sponsor the league. You are literally laying on a plate for people who make fun of our league. From what I've heard it is about those in charge massively underselling the SPFL. First the TV deal and now the sponsorship have been massively undersold. I know it's being painted as the best ever deal due to it being £8 million but it's over 5 years (£1.6 million a season) and is actually worth £900k a year less than the previous Ladbrokes deal (£2.5 million a season). That is before you add in they used an agency for it and they are taking 500K out of that £8 million. That is shockingly poor, how Doncaster is still our chief executive is beyond belief. He has undersold our game for years. The whole SPFL need cleared out and brought in to a more forward thinking and modern organisation.
  6. I seen they were doing a protest but that surely has to be a piss take done by a Rangers fan. No matter how bad it is that is just mental.
  7. Except for Celtic and AZ, those are some fairly decent draws for all the Scottish sides. None of them are easy games, but I'd say we have a half decent chance of getting 3 Scottish teams in the group stages.
  8. I don't see them signing any Scottish players if I'm honest. James McCarthy will be the closest to a Scottish player they sign. I'm sure Frimpong covered last season's losses. They have freed up a lot of wages as that was one of their biggest losses, along with "probably" getting rid of Lawwells wages and bonuses. I'm just a bit baffled why they aren't signing players tbh. They have signed like 3 first team signings (Starvelt, Furuhoshi and Abada) with 2 young players who aren't ready (Shaw and Urhoghide). We all said they needed atleast 10 players who could compete for the first team. It makes no sense why they can't get players in.
  9. As a Mac who has always had his name spelled Mc, I can appreciate this. My School, University and Work all spelled my name Mc. Let me tell you having official documents and letters with your name spelled wrong is a nightmare when dealing with getting new jobs and proving your identity when you need to.
  10. Weren't the Mc version's the lowers in the clan. I read something about that before. We really don't do enough on Scottish history in School's. It's only the obvious stuff we get taught growing up.
  11. My Celtic supporting mate thought it was noticeable that Starvelt wasn't signed untill Ajer was confirmed to leave. Whether that was due to softening the loss of Ajer or because they had to confirm the money coming in is another thing. I'd say they have money to invest in the squad but not as much as Celtic fans would want and have been trying to build the squad on a certain budget. I said before the season ended and Celtic fans were talking about spending £35-45 million to do a complete rebuild that they wouldn't spend more than £20 million (£25 million at a push). Even if Edouard leaves for £20 million they aren't going to invest it all into the playing squad. It should be also added that a failure to qualify for the Europa League would be a loss of £13/14+ million in revenue (gate receipts included), failure to get to the Conference league would probably be a loss of £8-10+ million in revenue (gate receipts included). While I doubt Celtic don't make it to atleast the Conference League, that would be a significant loss in revenue. They may be waiting to make sure they make it to these competitions. Covid has hammered every club. My club (Rangers) are in a bad financial situation but one that can be covered if we make the champions league group stages. So we are doing something similar and holding off on player sales to see if we make the champions league group stages. If we don't I can see 2 or 3 going for sadly less than we as club value them at.
  12. Mental that Gemmell never even considered him for the u21 get together at the end of the season. We had no natural RB's in that get together aswell.
  13. His chance creation stat got massively buffed due to taking every set piece and corner. I'm not playing that down btw as being very good at set pieces is a valuable skill set and one Scotland are missing. I would have him in squad for that alone. We are honking at set piece delivery. The problem has been when people see this stat, they think it has been through open play alone and he is creating 4/5 chances in open play in 60/70 minutes a game. It has lead to Turnbull being a bit overhyped. I'm not saying Turnbull is poor or anything. He is a very promising Scottish midfielder, who is one of the best CM's in the league. He has wonderful technique, a fantastic passing range and a good long range shot him. He has aspects he has to work on like his athleticism and fitness but this will hopefully come as he continues to develop. I do agree on your point that I don't think he will suit Ange's style as just isn't that type of player. If you're getting a guy who's game isn't about running about like mad and closing down constantly, then he is going to be knackered quickly and the things he is good at will take a dip as he won't have the same energy levels to do them.
  14. With the rebuild Celtic still have to do, I don't see them spending £5 million on a 19 year old LB when they still have Taylor, Bolingoli and Montgomery. They still have to fill GK, RB, CB and ST. I'd say they need a couple of midfielders aswell and back ups in other positions. LB doesn't seem a priority for them atm.
  15. McLaughlin Patterson Balogun Simpson Bassey Lundstrom or Aribo Arfield Jack or Kelly Wright Itten Defoe Hard to tell what Rangers first choice midfield will be this season. That's a far superior team to the team when Rangers finished 3rd the season before Gerrard. Doubt they would finish 2nd but would probably run it close. On your other point. I think unless Celtic massively improve their squad, then Hibs and maybe Aberdeen could run them close for 2nd. I can see Celtic dropping points on Saturday.
  16. If he hadn't played under Clarke previously I doubt he'd be anywhere near the squad. He like O'Donnell is a trusted and known entity. From everything we have heard Clarke likes 11 Vs 11 games. Taylor is there to make up the numbers, so we have 2 teams for the game's, as Tierney plays LCB in the first team. I've said it for a while if you are going to take a player just to make up the numbers, then why not take a younger player who would benefit from it longterm. Give Doig or Hickey, Taylor's squad place and give them the experience of training and playing against better players in these training games. It massively helped Robertson, McGinn, etc when they got brought in for similar exercises
  17. I thought Ralston had a good game. He is quite limited but gave it his all and was probably Celtic's best player. From what I remember of Buta, that Celtic are trying to sign, he was quick and not much else. Ralston might get more chances as the season goes on. Murray and Welsh did decent considering their age and experience. Welsh will probably be first choice alongside Starvelt, until Julien is fit. Bain was fine and is good with the ball at his feet. Will probably be replaced by Hart or whichever keeper they sign. Taylor was poor and I'd be worried if I was a Celtic fan, as it looks like he will be first choice. McGregor looked decent and scored a fabulous goal. Turnbull played some nice passes in the first half but quickly tired in the second half. How he was kept on until the second half of extra time is beyond me. He was finished at 65/70 minutes. Christie had a bit if dig and a decent first half but faded in the second. Forrest came on and changed the game in Celtic's favour but had 2 big misses one of which completely changed the game. Most of them will probably be involved with Celtic going forward this season. Ralston, Bain, Murray as backups. Taylor, Welsh, Turnbull, McGregor and Forrest will be first choice. I don't know what will happen with Christie as he doesn't have long on his deal.
  18. I said in another topic I think we have the players to go for a midfield diamond or a 3 CM with 1 CAM. Central midfield is our strongest area so why not play to it. I'm normally an advocate to drop McGregor but I feel he compliments Gilmour well. The pair help us retain possession. I'd like to see us try a cm of Jack (when fit), Gilmour, McGregor and then have McGinn playing off of Adams. 5 at the back with Mctominay at RCB. With McTominay I just feel he hasn't been great in our midfield when playing there and has been better at RCB for us.
  19. Hopefully Wright keeps pushing on. He has took his chance and looked good in preseason. With Aribo, Roofe and Morelos probably out next weekend, he has a good chance to start the season positively and stake his claim for a place. Miles away from a callup right now but if he establishes himself by October/November then who knows. We only really have Fraser and Forrest like you say for those wide areas when we want to change it and go 4-2-3-1. Christie and Armstrong can play there but it isn't their best position.
  20. He is just coming back to light training. I doubt he'll be anywhere near ready for September. Hopefully he'll be up to speed for the October games. I think we found our midfield against England for the Denmark game. Gilmour, McGregor and McGinn.
  21. Wright having a very good game against Real Madrid. Giving Marcelo a very hard time. Not a full strength Real Madrid but still quite strong with Isco, Marcelo, Vazquez, Jovic, Odegaard, Nacho etc
  22. Kelly was probably MOTM. It's looking like he will be a part of our 25 man squad next season. I hope so anyway. A very technically gifted player who has improved massively in the defensive side of his game. He spent a year as a CM/CDM under Hughes at County and he has massively improved in his defensive game. Before he just looked like a CAM playing out of position, now he looks much improved defensively and has started to read passing lanes well. Gets quite a few interceptions. I doubt he makes the starting XI much but he will learn a lot shadowing Davis and playing 20-25 times this season. Then moving up to 30-40 games next season. I've said it on multiple occasions he is very similar to the player Steven Davis has become. Calm and cool in possession with a nice killer ball. Shadowing Davis for a year and playing 20-25 games, would probably be better than playing 40-45 games in League 1. On Patterson, I think he will play a lot more than people are expecting. Probably 30-40 games. Rangers on average play about 60+ games a season.
  23. None of Celtic's links are LBs so I'd suspect Taylor will be first choice unless Bolingoli is given a second chance. With Welsh I don't think anyone ever really saw him as a main guy going forward. He seemed to play more due to how bad Duffy and Bitton were than how good he was. Bain was similar in goals, not good but not as bad as the other choices.
  24. Well one is coming from Lawell's mate Duda Duhan, so I'd say they probably are using the same scouting system.
