tomtscotland replied to Flora MaDonald's topic in Football related - Discussion of non TA football
First off the arguments I have made were in response to Scotty's assertion "atheism is still a faith-based belief system". I am arguing that we are not born with a belief in God and neither do we miraculously acquire a belief in God. Children are taught to believe in God - they do not have innate faith. If you subsequently reject religious teachings you are, as you argue, choosing to be atheist but this is also a return to the non-belief you were born with. As for this point you make - "If someone can't be born with a belief in god or gods, then surely they can't be born with no belief in them either?" ..it disnae make sense. Born without belief in something IS absence of belief period. A child reared free of human influence would never know of god or gods. -

No you are the one talking nonsense. No-one on this planet is borne believing in God. No-one in this planet is born with faith. This means you are effectively born atheist i.e. you are born without a belief in God. What you and others are confusing is when it is said people "become" atheist. You think that this means it is an acquired belief. It is not. It is simply rejecting the teaching and influence of others preaching faith and religion. Religion is an acquired belief. -

It's better to be cautious and guard against complacency - so to that extent I agree with your reasoning. I'm very optimistic that SNP will have a landslide - The polls have consistently shown a huge swing to SNP. SNP's membership must be close to 100,000. SNP activists are already campaigning and will win the ground war as well as social media. Most of the 45% yes vote will likely vote SNP and be committed to vote. The 55% no vote is split between other parties and I'm not sure tactical voting against SNP will be very effective. The tories scare tactics re SNP will help them win England but will backfire in Scotland. Their latest billboard showed Salmond to be strong and Miliband a muppet. SNP are being bigged up by the media as bogeymen but the more they do that the more Scots will realise just how much influence they could have at Westminster - all publicity gratefully accepted. They spent the first 15 minutes of today's Daily Politics discussing the Tory scare tacticts re SNP and whether Ed should rule out deals with SNP. -

What nonsense you "preach" Everyone is born an atheist. Not a single person is born a "believer". Religion / "faith" is a result of human intervention and fostered from childhood. -

John Major complains about the SNP having imaginary grievances and being divisive but seems to forget he was the duplicitous shitebag PM who shafted Rosyth in favour of Devonport to curry favour with English voters. Mind you that was nothing compared to wit he done to curry favour wae Edwina...the man must be a sicko. -
Any Jeff Beck Fans?

Saw him way back playing to a half-empty Apollo in Glasgow - so definitely not as big a draw as other famous guitarists. However, as the Ronnie Scott concert shows - not only is he brilliant but he plays very clean and that marks him out as a top, top guitarist. The 60's spawned many great guitarists and many followed a similar route through bands such as Yarbirds, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers etc. If you were of that era you should be thankful that most of the greatest guitarists were of that time .... Beck, Clapton, Page, Green, Hendrix, Townsend, Richards etc etc. -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZKoDDUzwV4 Here's the other one where she was main singer. This was opening song and the power she has in those lungs was astonishing. I've uploaded the whole concert song by song - a youtube search of "Grit Greg Lawson" should find them all. Please share songs on facebook etc if you like them .. this concert deserves a wide audience because the original album was iconic and the orchestrated version was a masterpiece that we in Scotland should be proud of.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hmrwx9hwWIQ&list=UUGGbHEhOeGbKs6xY3IBgdAQ First of a few I'll be uploading. Shame that we only get this on SD BB2 Scotland. I'm sure we deserve better ..especially when you consider the hours and hours that BBC put on it's main HD channels for the likes of the boat race, the London Marathon, The Lord Major's Parade etc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNDBjJm0O04 This is not to be missed. It's on BBC2 Scotland 9.30pm this Thursday 22nd January and is preceded at 9pm by Martyn Bennett documentary. My wee "taster" video cannae dae this justice - the concert was superb. I've edited in a wee bit of Martyn's original version - this comes in when Martyn's picture appears.

George Square Crash
tomtscotland replied to Mindimoo's topic in Anything Goes - Other topics not covered elsewhere
When the police said there was "nothing sinister" about accident that should have been enough to stop speculation. The driver will undoubtably need counselling and Glasgow Council will be protecting his identity. From Scotsman - "THE identity of the driver of the bin lorry that killed six people when it crashed in Glasgow city centre will be protected indefinitely, the local authority has said. A spokesman for Glasgow City Council, which owns the bin lorry involved in the George Square tragedy, said it would “never release the names” of the driver or other two individuals who were in the cabin when it crashed."
