There is a big difference between being "stupid" and being "ignorant of the facts". Folk don't have to be stupid to be taken in by bullshit. It happens to very intelligent people on a regular basis.

To be fair to your dad, it depends on when he started getting his pension (if indeed he is getting a pension yet). Most folk who are already retired probably weren't affected too much by Broons pension fund raids. It all depends on his personal circumstances. Everybody is different. But you are right the media have done a great job of hiding this from the public. It will affect younger folk much more. Especially those who might have had a chance of being in a defined benefit (final salary ) pension scheme. When Labour came to power in 1997, 35% of company pension schemes were defined benefit. It is now down to about 8%. Most pensions experts agree that this change is almost entirely due to Pension Fund Raider Broon.

Sometimes you should just do something because it's the right thing to do, and not worry about whether it makes money or not. It is a principle I apply to most of the stuff I do in my life. But you're right, they are just doing it to try to win some votes. Not sure it will work though.

Aye, not all non doms are the same. I am generalising based on a limited amount of information. You probably know more of them than I do.

The problem is that they don't pay tax anywhere, or at least very little tax. A lot of them are using the UK as a tax haven. I don't blame them. The problem leis with the folk who allow them to do it.

In a similar vein nobody needs to pay the 40% tax rate unless they want to. IMO there is nothing wrong with folk doing what they can to avoid paying tax. In fact folk who don't do it are a bit daft IMO. The problem is with the folk who deliberately legislate to allow themselves and their very, very rich pals to rip the pish out of the system. Poorer folk don't have the option to avoid paying tax to the same extent. It's only the relatively well off folk who can make it worthwhile.

I think it's good that they are. At last they are paying attention to us. I have thought for a long time that probably the best way for us to get independence is when they decide they want rid of us.
