Actually he hasn't been committed to us for a few years, its only this season he's started representing Scotland , he's never been in a Scotland squad before which is a little suspicious given his obvious eligibility and considering our standards are not exactly high. Therefore its legitimate to conclude, given his having been on England's radar at least, he was waiting for an England cap that never came and realised its actually easier to get in to the senior Scotland squad than England under-19 team. He was actually born in Scotland so that's not the point, its the fact that we're apparently second choice as usual. I don't know if he even has a scottish bloodline, he was brought up in Melton Mowbray and may have just been dropped in Kirkcaldy whilst parents were working there or otherwise temporarily in residence. Its not about birthplace for me - I don't consider Maloney Malaysian for instance, its about where you grow up, where your parents are from, who you support and what you identify as first and foremost and Burke's reluctance to represent us before now makes me doubt he really identifies as Scottish.

Can't say I noticed a lot of this intelligence, dignity and friendliness amongst the local Yes campaign among the suddenly politically enlightened folks of Wishaw. This nationalistic sermon I've been hearing so much of the last half a year from the Yessies out there sounds much like the manifesto's of those anachronistic revolutionary 'armies' that have been pestering South American countries the last few decades with their preaching about how they want to create a fair and just society which just happens to involve taking money for themselves off those members of society that happen to possess more than them and of which the majority of the country are entirely fed up with and wish they would leave them alone to get on with their lives. Its easy to invent a vision of a utopian society much like the Khmer Rouge did in Cambodia and just say we'll leave the details of exactly how we're going to make this happen to after the revolution (just substitute invented projected oil revenues for invented projected rice harvests which will make everyone universally prosperous and happy of course) Personally I'd rather have Pol Pot as a leader than Alec Salmond though. This isn't a Rangers thing (I actually support an SPL club) but I think what happened on Friday was pretty tame when you consider the gravity of what was at stake. The streets have been swamped for weeks with inyourface tribal and antagonistic Yes backers with all their paraphernalia and after having their empty message shoved down your throat day in day out ,after the relief of the final vote (to the majority of us) you do want to let off some steam and shout from the rooftops that salvation has come. Some individuals went too far but I can understand the passions inflamed in them. As far as the flagburning goes, the same thing happened to the Union flag in the very same place the day before and the Nazi salute thing, excuse me for my possible naivety but wasn't that the Ulster hand 'no surrender' gesture? Nobody needed to have got hurt though , we're all scottish together just as we were all before and will continue to be regardless of the outcome so lets stop dividing ourselves, democracy has spoken so give it some dignified respect and lets go on living in peace and stop this fratricidal shit.

So is Dundee the new cradle of scottish patriotism? Is it the spirit of Bannockburn crying out in their hearts or is it possibly just a case of a dismal,squalid, wretched and socially blighted piece of urban wreckage crying out for someone to put it out of its collective misery? If they want to dream that Dundee will be any less of a shytehole under Alex Salmond's governance than it is under David Cameron then far be it from me to try and shatter their delusions but I'm not going to swallow the fiction of some kind of highminded patriotic idealism on the part of Scotland's bleakest little corner.
